OBJECTIVES
I am seeking employment in the Steel industry where I can use my 30 years of experience in multiple
aspects of that business to help that company succeed in this difficult economy.
My current title is "Application Programmer/Developer" and I do have an uncommonly high degree of
expertise in the technical aspects of that title but I have so many other skills. I can:
 analyze data, systems, processes and situations
 quickly devise work-arounds
 assemble teams of the right people to get projects completed
 attend to detail
 communicate effectively and professionally with my customers and make them "my" customers
 dig in my heels until I solve a mystery. I love a mystery!
 always do more than expected
 take responsibility for my job and make it mine
These add up to make me a very desirable employee in any position.
EXPERIENCE
The Steel Mill at Burns Harbor currently owned by ArcelorMittal USA
250 W US Hwy 12
Burns Harbor, IN 46304
I have worked at this same steel company since 1985 both as a contractor and as a direct employee. It
has been Bethlehem Steel, ISG, Mittal and ArcelorMittal. I am one of a handful of people who were kept
through buy-outs and cutbacks because I am, above all, a mutli-tasking problem solver.

At that time I was training to be a Mainframe programmer. I also did FOCUS programming, which I
taught myself from the book. And I helped organize and maintain the training materials for the
Education Department.
Programmer from 1986 to 1992 with Bethlehem Steel
Under guidance from some a mentor I took over the Quality Control and Metallurgical testing system. I
also worked on production systems, for instance, when helping to integrate the new HDCL at Burns
Harbor. I filled in on any system involved in producing coils, as necessary.
Programmer analyst/application developer from 1993-2009 with EDS and then for HP until my
retirement from HP on Sept 30, 2015
By now I had full ownership of the Met system. The plant automated the Plate mill and then the LFR
met labs. I learned and wrote C programs that captured and transmitted test data from the PC and
captured the requirements data that had been sent to the PC from the Mainframe. Both labs have
undergone several upgrades since then and I have been the owner of each of those projects. In fact I
was the system owner until a few months ago, when they were turned over to process automation.
During this time I also began mentoring contractors and directing their work for the QA systems.
These have been very difficult years for the steel industry. The mergers created whole new systems
that had to be designed and created. One such is what we call the MTS system, the ‘mid term solution.
Mid-term until they were able to shutdown the mainframe which never happened. I was key in the
beginning in the design and implementation of this system, that is now 12 years old. It allows for a
unique method of communicating orders across sister plants. It has DB2 databases in its foundation
which I was instrumental in designing.
During those years we also greatly enhanced the metallurgical test reporting (MTR) system. It’s now
entirely electronic and automatic (on the coil side) and still flexible enough to make modifications easily
and quickly to meet any customer or agency demand.
I have been able to help whichever steel company had ownership at the time, create the systems and
processes needed to expand and merge with sister plants, and helped them remain flexible enough to
change direction, create new products, do more trials, and test report it all.
