2. 1 Chapter – Iceland
Grýla goes on a holiday
• Christmas had passed and
Grýla, Santa Claus’s mom was
standing inside her cave. She
was ironing all the thirteen
Santa costumes because they
were all back from visiting all
the good children in Iceland.
There was so much noise in
the cave and Grýla was very
tired. She looked at the
newspaper and decided to go
somewhere where she could
relax.
3. • She decided to go to
Reykjavik, capital of Iceland.
On the way there she
passed Gullfoss and she
wanted to take a bath
before she left. She jumped
into the waterfall. After a
while she heard a lot of
noise and looked up and
saw many turists screaming:
Get out of the waterfall we
don´t want to have you in
our pictures. Grýla was so
scared that she ran all the
way to Reykjavík.
4. • There she went into the
travel agency and wanted
to get a ticket to the
Canary Islands. But she
didn´t have any money so
she decided to go to the
airport to see if she could
sneak into some jet there.
She was very hungry and
she went to the Farm
animal zoo in Reykjavík
and took a sheep and ate
it.
5. • Now she was ready to go to the
airport. On her way she passed
the Blue Lagoon. Oh said Grýla it
would be wonderfull to take a
bath in the hot springs here and
so she did. She spent a little time
there and then she kept going to
the airport. When she came there
she saw a big jet and the door
was open. She looked around and
saw no one then she sneaked into
the jet and sat down. She was
very tired and fell asleep When
she woke up the jet had landed
in Canary Island….
6. • Gryla got off the plane
and was impressed with
the good weather on
the islands. She decided
to go for a walk.
• She bumped into
Doramas, a noble
aborigine native from
Gran Canaria. He was
very friendly and helped
her.
7. • They visited
Maspalomas dunes and
Gryla swam in the sea.
• The sea water was very
cold so she decided to
sunbathe.
8. • Then they went to have
lunch at “la Cueva
Pintada de Gáldar” (a
painted cave)
• They ate typical food
(bowl potatoes with
canarian sauce and
gofio (toasted cereal)
9. • Gryla enjoyed the food
and thought her Polish
cousin would find it
interesting. She went to
the airport and took the
first plane to Poland.
10. • Gryla landed at
Goleniów Airport in
Poland. She hopped on
a train heading for
Wolin island.
11. • She got off in
Międyzdroje, where she
met with her Viking
friend, Lech. Together,
they decided to walk
around Wolin National
Park. They went to the
Bison Reserve. Gryla
liked the huge animals
very much.
12. • On the way back, they
went to the beach.
Suddenly, they heard a
strange sound. They
looked up and saw a
white-tailed sea-eagle.
Lech said that they
were lucky, because
eagles were rare and it
was difficult to see
them.
13. • As they were getting
hungry, Lech invited
Gryla for a fried fish,
straight from the Baltic
Sea.
15. CHAPTER FOUR - GRYLA ARRIVES IN
ITALY
• Grýla left Poland hopping to
see her country soon, but
after a long trip, looking
through the plane window
she saw a big mountain, a
blue sea and beautiful
shores, instead of seeing the
white islands of the North
Pole. She had taken a wrong
plane and reached Sicily in
Italy. The big mountain was
Etna volcano and the
Mediterranean sea.
16. • In a village of Sicily Grýla
met a kind old man named
Peppino, 100 years old. He
was living in the old town
of Ragusa, Ibla. He attended
Gryla visiting St. George´s
and St. John's cathedrals,
both very famous because
of their Baroque style, in
fact they are UNESCO
World Heritage Site.
17. • The cute Peppino gave
hospitality to Gryla in his
house, where, his wife
prepared typical food:
ravioli, pies, cassata, cannoli,
scacce, nougat, etc.
18. • Grýla was guided by the
nice, old married couple to
visit the hundred rooms of
Donnafugata Castle and the
garden with wonderful in
bloom almond trees .
19. • Finally they went to visit Marina
di Ragusa sea front. When Gryla
saw the sandy beaches and clear
water was amazed. After few
days Gryla returned home at the
Pole, but she is always bearing in
her heart the memory of this
beautiful journey .
