Makes us transmit our ideas, opinions,
perceptions, feelings and emotions
through the use of oral language.
Through verbal communication, human
beings are able to develop friends or foes.
3. NON-VERBAL
COMMUNICATION
Is a communication where you reach other
people not on the basic of what they say with
words but because of what they say, non-
verbally, with the body language.
Non-verbal communication refers to the
messages we send to another person using
various ways other than oral language.
4. A.VISUAL
1. POSTURE.This is evident in the way you stand, sit,
cross-leg, and how you carry yourself as you walk on
the stage.
During the meeting, our posture speaks of our
interest or boredom, and irritation.
2. GESTURES AND BODY MOVEMENT. Nodding and
shaking of the head, waving of the hand, and making
the victory sign are other examples of this type of
gestures classified as non-verbal communication.
5. A.VISUAL
3. FACIAL EXPRESSION. Different emotions can be
conveyed through a person’s facial expression as
indicated by the movement of the eyebrows the mouth
etc.
4. EYE MOVEMENTS. It is said that “the eyes are the
windows to our soul.” Our eyes can communicate love,
hatred, anger, joy, worry, fear or any other type of
emotion.
Eye contact can regulate or sustain a dialogue or
conversation.

5. PROXEMICS. It is the space or distance in
which your interpersonal communication
takes place.
Each of us has a personal space, a sort of
invisible bubble around us which we feel is ours
and which we don’t wish to be intruded upon.

6. GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION.The position of
the interactants during a communication
event shows the kind of relationship existing
between the speaker and the listener.
Example: The manager usually sits behind a
table while the employee stays in front of the same
table during the interview.

7. TIME. A person’s observation of time reveals
a lot of his personality. Punctuality and
tardiness talk louder than physical
characteristics.
8. ARTIFACTS. These refer to things or objects
we put on our body, in our homes, or in our
personal possessions.
10. B.AUDITORY
1. SILENCE. There is a saying that “silence speaks
louder than words.” A person’s silence may mean
approval or disapproval, acceptance or non-
acceptance, understanding or lack of it.
2. PARALANGUAGE.This is the technical name given
to non-verbal features in speech such as intonation,
pitch, loudness, and intensity.
The meaning of an utterance does not depend
only what is said but also on how it is said or uttered.
11. B.AUDITORY
3. TACTILE.This refers to communication through
touch, a method of conveying feelings without
the use of words.
The meanings given to touch vary from one
culture to another.
4. OLFACTORY.This form of communication refers
to smell.The cologne or perfume we wear can
tell the kind of person we are to whoever we
come in contact with in different situations.
12. B.AUDITORY
5. GUSTATORY. This refers to communication
through taste.The choices we make in terms
of the food and drink we take for our
everyday nourishment indicate the type of
individual we are or want to become.
