According to the Ministry of Public Health of Ecuador, there
are no records of patients who have developed NOMA.
However, Ecuador population has risk factors, as well as
predisposing factors for the development of this pathology,
which is why we are working on prevention and control
strategies for these factors.
6. Chronic Malnutrition in Children

• Ecuador Grows Without Malnutrition
strategy begins in 2021
• 348,019 children under 24 months and
pregnant women in 2022 attended to for
preventive care.

Malaria:
Facts:
• The project "Elimination of Malaria in
Ecuador and Prevention of
Reestablishment" is being implemented
with an amount of more than 10'000,000
dollars.
• The main pillars of this project are
Diagnosis, Treatment, Research and
Response, which are being developed in
the active foci of transmission of the
disease, some located in border areas
with Colombia and Peru.
• Malaria deaths were reduced by 64%
(from 919 to 334) and the mortality rate by
73% (from 0.8 to 0.2).
8. Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)

Facts:
• 2022: $ 8,104,724.85 million invested for
the diagnosis, care and monitoring of HIV,
however, HIV-related expenditure is much
higher, since other indirect benefits are
considered to medical care and
complementary tests, which are tied to the
medical tariff, so that currently the
approximate amount spent on HIV
nationally per year is USD 25'638,292.07.
• Main implemented strategy: Universal HIV
Screening.
9. Measles

• Immunization campaign for an
"Ecuador free of poliomyelitis,
measles and rubella 2023"
was started, which will be
implemented starting May 2,
2023, with this campaign
seeks to immunize about 3.7
million children between 1 and
12 years of age for 10 weeks.
10. Oral Health:

Facts:
• “Ecuador Without Cavities” campaign has
been implemented since 2017.
• In 2022, 192,844 children between 6 and
9 years of age benefited from the
placement of dental sealants in the first
definitive molars.
• As of February 2023, we are working on
the elaboration of the National Oral Health
Policy, which seeks to develop the best
strategies to reduce the prevalence of oral
diseases in the Ecuadorian population.
