Media Convergence is how Media Production companies
use a variety of Media to display their product. Magazine
company has a print version, a website and a Facebook
page. Cross Media convergence is usually possible
because of technological convergence.

• Technological Convergence is how technology
allows Media texts to be produced and distributed
on multiple media devices. The move from film to
digital means phones/i pads etc can be used to
show and market film specifically because film
takes up too much space but digital storage can
be tiny.

• Both Benefit from the technological convergence created by digital cinema:
• Warp benefits from cheaper production costs (give examples) and the ability
to distribute more effectively (give examples)
• Working Titles benefit from this too but also allows access to cheaper special
effects (give examples) and widescale DVD sales.
• Both benefit from cross media convergence as means to a market their
products.
• Warp benefit from the synergy of links Warp has with other production
companies and funding bodies (give examples). Also benefits from word of
mouth support of facebook/shortfilm/film websites/BBC films etc. Warp itself
works on the principle of Media Convergence – it was established as a music
production company and “converged” into music web site/music video/short
film and then film.
• Working Titles benefits from the whole marketing operation that Universal has
at its disposal. Films made by WT can be distributed on general release at
cinemas and on DVD, TV and Bluray. They can be shown on a variety of tv
stations owned by Universal use Universal’s connections with NBC to access
further TV stations both Nationally and Globally.

phenomena:

and distribute across several media—for example, a

in a media world where television, videogames, films,
newspapers, radio, magazines and music exist separately.
• For this reason it is essential that you study the impact of
convergence on the film industry — the focus here is on the
contemporary.
