Production Roles
The role of the creative producer is to lead the making of a radio show and
create sounds and audio. It is also possible for them to be the person in charge
of the technical side of the thing when the presenter or voice artist is on air,
being a board operator/ technical operator. They are usually in a separate
room to these people as to avoid any additional sound in the room but they
are able to see each other to communicate possibly with hand signals if needs
be using a glass window between the two rooms. Creative producers often
work on jingles or commercials.
The role of the copywriter primarily is to write scripts for the radio
commercials, so obviously they need to know how the audience engages with
different methods in commercials and how they respond and use this
knowledge to their advantage and create a script that will engage the audience
and complete the purpose of the advert. They usually work as the writer and
the producers and take it upon themselves to oversee all aspects of the
commercial including the voice overs, studio production and the distribution so
they know that in the end the commercial is going to fit the vision he had for it
and it achieves its purpose.
The role of the voiceover artist is to read the script given to them by the
copywriter in the way they are told to portray it such as certain emotion or
tone. The voice actor will be a professional that has done previous work but
they still need instruction from the copywriter from what kind of message the
commercial is portraying so the voice actor can use his voice to achieve the
best results for the advert. The voice will be recorded in an isolation booth to
avoid background noise and then added during the editing. Voice actors are
one of the oldest methods in advertising because it engages the audience
personally using mode of address and you feel as though the voice actor is
talking to you and makes the product or company seem more personal.
The sound engineer’s primary objective is to make every single sound clip
sound the best it can be and in the highest quality, be it music, voice or sound
effects. They usually are based in the recording studio and they need certain
knowledge when it comes to sound such as rhythm, timing and pitches, in
order to achieve the best of the sound as they can.
