5. Students if you are interested in being a youth court volunteer, -
pick up a application from Mr. Trice in the Guidance Office.
Youth court volunteers will prosecute, defend and serve as
bailiffs and jurors in a real sentencing hearing of juvenile
offenders in Shelby County.
6. Online class registration is NOW OPEN!!!!!!!
Please see Ms. Osman to register for an online class during
your lunch or after school.

Congratulations Overton High Orchestra Students -Journey
Hogan, Jerald Walker and Kenneth Gillespie. Out of 5,500
hopefuls they have been selected to travel and perform at New
York City’s Carnegie Hall (High School Honor’s Performance
Series). They have also won spots in TN. All West & All State
Orchestra.
8. OHS Pride will hold weekly meetings every Monday from
3:15pm – 4:15pm. Come and join to be apart of an accepting
environment. While discussing LGBT related issues and
working on related projects.
9. The FHAO Leadership Group would like to invite students
grades 9 – 12 to join them on their upcoming field trip to
Washington, D.C. This will be a great way to spend your Spring
Break. For details on the trip, please see Ms. Mosby or Dr.
Taylor.
10. Any seniors who want to send pictures to the yearbook staff for
this year’s book, please send them to Ms. Marszalek Room

11. Overton Strings students won 17 seats in the All West Honor Orchestra Auditions
at Briarcrest Christian School. All grade levels and sections of the orchestra were

15. Absences due to pre-approved college visits will not count
against seniors for exam exemptions. Seniors must have
approval from their professional school counselor prior to the
college visit and must submit documentation of visit upon
returning.
16. All College Acceptance Letters, Scholarship Offers and FAFSA
Confirmations need to be turned in to Mrs. Tipton ASAP!
17. When you are absent from school, please remember to turn
your absentee note in to Mr. Floyd IMMEDIATELY! Mr. Floyd’s
office is located in Pupil Services.
18. Faculty and Staff we are in the 2nd semester and we are yet
accepting membership into the Teacher Courtesy Club. If you
have not joined for the annual fee of $25, we need your
membership.

19. Advanced Placement Applications are now available for the
2016-2017 school year. Please see Mrs. Tipton in guidance to
pick up your application. The deadline for your application is
Friday, March 25, 2016.
20. Congratulations to Ms. Amy Shamblin and Mr. William Mosby.
Both were winner in the 2016 Mid-South Regional Scholastic
Arts Competition. Stop by the Brooks Museum of Art January
30th – February 28th to view their work.
21. Congratulations to Nicklaus Carter, who is one of ten Teach for
America Service Scholars who will be attending the 25th
National Summit of Teach for America in Washington D.C.
February 4th through the 7th. There, he will meet school
teachers from all over the country, Ivy League professors,
government officials, business leaders, and even R&B Artist
John Legend.
22. The P.O.W. Club is selling Val-E-Gram from Feb. 1 through
Feb. 8. For $1, you can send an origami heart, rose and a
poem to your friend, sibling, crush or special someone. You can
also choose to send a small origami rose bouquet for $3 or a
large bouquet for $5. See a P.O.W. club member, Mrs. Mabry
(Room 116) or Mrs. Mitchell (Room 111) to place your order.
Last day to purchase is Feb. 8 and all deliveries will be done
during 7th period, Feb. 11.
23. Overton will be hosting our Annual Shakespeare Competition
on Tuesday, February 16th at 2:30pm in the auditorium. To
compete you must choose a monologue from a Shakespeare
play that is no more than 20 lines. The winner will go on to
compete in the Memphis competition, with the opportunity to
win $300 and travel to New York City and London for free! For
more information and assistance, see Mr. Hoy in room 234.

25. Detention is assigned for students who are tardy to school or class
3 or more times. The detention is always posted outside of the Pupil
Services office. Detention notices are also issued.
If you fail to attend detention you will be automatically assigned a
day of ISS!!!
If you fail to attend ISS or comply with ISS rules you will receive an
OUT OF SCHOOL SUSPENSION!!
