Sports In Sports
Introduction
The primary object of sports is, of course, exercise, but sports have a far greater impact on the wellbeing of many besides physical health. Introducing
new opportunities for youth, sports create unbreakable bonds, build athletes' characters, unite communities, and promote teamwork. Undoubtedly,
sports can positively impact many children of all ages. As children grow older and become more athletic, parents and athletes may consider
specializing in one sport to maximize the athlete's chance of earning a scholarship for college; furthermore, almost every youth athlete, myself
included, dreams of becoming a professional athlete one day, so they will do anything to achieve that goal. On the contrary, specializing in one sport
may have the opposite effect. Depriving themselves from diverse environments, specialized athletes are excluded from valuable lessons that are
beneficial for sports and life. Specializing in one sport today is not merely playing one season of a sport, but specialization is intensely concentrating
on one sport year–round. For this reason, athletes should play multiple sports because focusing on one sport all year does not produce the same
benefits as playing multiple sports throughout the year. Most athletes, including myself, would probably agree that they love more than one sport, and
if this is the case, then athletes should participate in every sport they love. After all, the purpose of sports is not to earn money or to become famous

The Importance of Physical Activity Essay
Physical Activity is undeniably good for everyone, not only does it keep you fit and healthy but when started at a young age, it can set up good habits
for life. Sometimes however, people do not take care of their physical wellbeing, resulting in obesity and other eating disorders which can be
detrimental to their health.
Obesity is the condition of being seriously overweight. It is now considered a global health epidemic by the World Health Organization (2000)
(McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Physical activity is important to children in the middle childhood age group because a staggering amount of children
have become overweight in the last few decades and teachers play a role in preventing obesity by becoming a positive role model,...show more content...
It is because of this high level of cognitive function that physical activity and nutrition are extremely important (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). They
affect the child's physical wellbeing in terms of energy levels, growth and the ability to concentrate (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010).
As children grow they continue to need physical activity. One of the methods of exercise that is popular with children in the middle childhood age is
rough and tumble play or 'play fighting' (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Unfortunately, this sort of play is often discouraged by schools because of the
possibility that someone may become injured. (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Teachers must find the balance between protecting children from getting
hurt and allowing them to run and jump to release the copious amounts of energy that they have to burn (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010).
Another unfortunate hindrance to physical activity in schools is the notion that physical activity takes away from time that could be used for academic
studies. This is unjustified however, because children of this age group are unable to sit and concentrate for long periods of time without being able to
get up and move (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010).
Teachers can play a large role when it comes to addressing and preventing obesity. Because children spend such a large portion of their time with the
teacher, it is the teacher

Keep The Playing Field Even
Performance enhancing drugs, otherwise known as "PED's" are without a doubt the most controversial and most talked about topics in sports business.
Every year, athletes across the country are suspended, fined, and sometimes banned from the professional leagues that they are a part of. The National
Basketball Association (NBA), National Football League (NFL), Major League Soccer (MLS), and Major League Baseball (MLB) are all among the
most well–known leagues and associations that crack down aggressively on the use of these substances that provide unfair advantages towards
players. The MLB is the league that draws the most attention in the case of suspending and banning players. While there are many conflicting
opinions and views when regarding the legalization of these illegal substances, performance enhancing drugs take away from the natural skill, ability,
and hard work put in towards the activity at place. PED's are a form of "cheating" and should not be allowed to be enabled by professional athletes in

Human Growth Hormone (HGH) is a type of PED that improves endurance, stamina, and strength ("The Benefits & Dangers of Human Growth

However, other people think that these drugs should be taken by all professional athletes in every professional sport. A large number of athletes have
admitted to have used or been caught using PED's in the past years. In 2009, Professional baseball player Alex Rodriguez admitted to abusing the
MLB's substance abuse policy while he played for the Texas Rangers. Resulting in the loss of an appeal and he was suspended 162 games in January of

Sport and the Media
The growth of television as a significant cultural form during the 1960s put the relationship between sport and the media on the public agenda. In late
1969, the US magazine Sports Illustrated drew attention to the ways in which television was transforming sport. In effect, sport in the television age
was a 'whole new game'. The growing economic and cultural significance of television for sport gradually became a pertinent issue in countries
around the world.Clearly sport and television had developed a degree of interdependence. They belonged together 'like ham and eggs'. In the view of

Media organizations exist within legal frameworks that determine their scope. In the United Kingdom, the BBC is a public corporation, and the ITV
system is overseen by a public body, the Independent Television Commission. Both are charged with a statutory responsibility to provide a broad
range of material, which includes sport coverage. The introduction of Channel 4 in 1982, with its statutory obligation to be alternative and innovative,
had an impact on the range of sports covered In the USA free market forces are not subject to as much restriction, but there are still laws, rules and
regulations that impact upon sport coverage
The press in both countries are subject to less restriction from government. Sport coverage in the British tabloid press is dominated by a very small
range of sports, with football typically providing more than half of the content. While some sport events, such as the Olympic games and the soccer
World Cup, win huge audiences, the audience for much television sport is not, by television's standards, large. Part of the appeal of sport for television
producers is its cheapness. It can fill hours of the schedule at relatively low cost. A substantial amount of television sport, lacking major audience

Argumentative Essay Boxing
Boxing – a violent cage fight, or a crowd pleasing sport? Boxing is a high intensified sport that can be seen as helping the fighter in life or
permanently damaging the fighters future. Many say that boxing is one of the safest sports; however, boxing can leave permanent brain damage from
constant punches to the skull. The sport boxing is for managers to earn money while their fighter is in the ring fighting against another human until
one gives up, or gets knocked out. A fight could be the end of one's career, or even one's life. Boxing should be banned because the money earned
does not trump the risk of death, the mixed messages from fighters in the ring confuse the laws regarding assault, and the constant punches to and
athletes head leaves permanent damage. The death of one is not worth the money earned from winning a fight. This is important to realize because
the expense of one's life is worth way more than the winnings of a cage fight. In "On Boxing," Joyce asserts directly why she thinks boxing is not a
humanized sport: "In the boxing ring, even in our greatly humanized times, death is always a possibility – which is why some of us prefer to watch
films or tapes of fights already past, already defined as history" (source c). Joyce is stating that many watch tapes from the past when boxing first
started because it was much safer then, than it is now. Also in "On Boxing," Carol states directly her opinion for the sport boxing: "In no other sport

Peds In Sports
In the recent history of American sports, there has been a surplus of the use of Performance Enhancing Drugs, "PEDs". This has varied from the
case in Major League Baseball and the "biogenesis" scandal, to the case that involves Lance Armstrong in cycling. In addition, Russia is facing a ban
from the 2016 Olympics in Rio for the usage of PEDs. In fact, according to Kalyeena Makortoff, "...Russian track and field athletes, which were
encouraged and covered–up by coaches, doctors, and state and sports officials, (What You need to Know about Russia's Doping Scandal, Makortoff) to

The sports industry will not tolerate athletes using the drugs and in the long run killing himself or herself by using the drugs while an athlete for a
sport. Legalizing the use of Performance Enhancing Drugs could also become a sport of its own by athletes looking for the best drug possible and find
drugs that can turn them more into creature than human. Then sports will truly not be sport, it is going to become a "shot race" for the next injection.
This situation could only go for so long until a detrimental situation happens when in the middle of the usage of PEDs, a life is lost from not using
the drugs properly. According to Doctor Thomas H. Murray "The drug race in sport has the potential to create a slow–motion public health
catastrophe." (Top 10 Pros and Cons Should performance enhancing drugs (such as steroids) be accepted in sports?, Procon.)
In conclusion, Performance Enhancing Drugs such as steroids should not be legalized in the sporting world. This is because of the long term health
of the person, an unfair advantage that happens when using Performance Enhancing Drugs, and the argument for legalizing PEDs is simply asinine.
Remember, that in the sports world many believe that the rules can be flexible if the right loophole is found, and some may find a way to work the
system. So those that try to use the drugs, just remember it isn't the rules you are bending and breaking, it is your body that is being broken in the

Competitive Gaming
Competitive gaming, also known as e–sports, is becoming a worldwide phenomenon. With huge events and tournaments that are watched by millions of
passionate fans, many people are beginning to question whether playing video games can be considered a real sport. Even though e–sports may not be
as physically demanding as traditional sports like football and basketball, the structure, strong fan base and the requirements to seriously contend in the
competitive gaming scene legitimize it as a "real" sport. It is important to gain an understanding of the complete picture of e–sports before classifying it

unprecedented cash prizes, the League of Legends tournament was able to bring in over 8 million "unique viewers" online, viewership that is greater
than the National Hockey League's (Heaven and Robinson). In South Korea individual e–sports events for the popular real–time strategy game
StarCraft 2 bring in over 100,000 live attendants to go alongside huge numbers of online spectators (Robinson). On top of this, competitive gaming's
popularity is continuing to grow through 2013. David Ting, founder of Imagine Game Network's professional gaming league, states that online traffic
for the company's tournaments is "doubling every six months"(qtd. in Heaven). Who would've thought that playing video games would turn into such a

The Benefits of Physical Activity Essay
Studies have shown that one who is physically active has higher chances of living longer. Del Sanden writes in his article on Exercise Statistics,
"People who engage in physical for 7 hours per week have a 40 percent lower chance of dying early than people who are active for less than 30
minutes a week." This statement is one of the many statements in his article proving the importance of fitness; it has the ability to enhance quality of
life. Regular exercise can lower the risk of many diseases, improve the function of the physical body, as well as psychological health.
Fitness by definition is the condition of being physically fit and healthy. It does not necessarily mean gym workouts, it means being active. When one

Another disease that is commonly found in the US, but can be prevented by physical activity is Diabetes. Diabetes is a disease when the body does
not produce enough insulin making sugar levels very high. However, when muscles are in action they can take the sugar/glucose from the blood
without the help of insulin. The amount of physical activity necessary for prevention is minimum and does not take up much time. "Research suggests
that 2 1/2 hours per week of even leisurely physical activity–like brisk walking–is enough to significantly improve glucose tolerance." By going
walking instead of sitting by a television screen, one can prevent a disease like diabetes which requires constant medication. Decisions like taking steps
instead of elevator can make a huge difference to one's health.
Besides for the aforementioned, being active strengthens the body, making it more reliable. Activity works the bones and muscles, making them able to
handle more. Bones are living tissue. "Weight–bearing physical activity causes new bone tissue to form, and this makes bones stronger. This kind of
physical activity also makes muscles stronger. Bones and muscles both become stronger when muscles push and tug against bones during physical
activity." This build up enables the body to carry it's own weight, making standing on the feet an effortless activity. Stronger bones helps for better

Introduction to Soccer Essay
Soccer is a popular sport played all over the world. Even though it has only been popular in the United States for the past 30 years, soccer has been
a long time favorite most everywhere else. The sport dates back to the Egyptians, who played games involving the kicking of a ball. Now, the sport
has grown to a global pastime, including men's and women's teams, and the World Cup (which is played every four years). Soccer originated with
kicking games played by people in ancient civilizations. The modern version came about in the early nineteenth century, in England. It started as a
game involving kicking and handing, but later this branched off into two separate sports: rugby and football (which is what the English call soccer).

In addition to the field itself, all that is needed for a game is two goals (eight feet high and eight yards apart) and a ball. Each player wears hard
plastic or padded shingaurd, covered by long socks, for protection during play. Cleats are also worn for traction on the field. A goalie may also
wear a special padded shirt, and gloves to protect his or her hands. A standard field, as regulated by the Federation Internationale de Football
Association (or FIFA), has a length between 100 and 130 yards, and a width of between 50 and 100 yards. The rules of play for soccer have
deliberately been kept simple. The referee makes most of the decisions, and attempts to encourage fair play. The game starts off with a kick off, and
the teams are allowed to pass, dribble, juggle, head, kick, and shoot the ball to place it down the field, and (hopefully, or eventually) into their
opponent's goal. If the ball is kicked off the field over the length of the field, the other team is given a throw–in, where the ball is thrown over the
player's head, and back onto the field. If the ball is kicked over the goal, or across the width of the field, either a corner kick results (by the offensive
team, where the ball is placed on the corner of the field and kicked into play) or the defensive team is awarded a goal kick, where the ball is placed on
the corner of the goal box, and kicked back into play. If a goal is scored, the ball is taken back to the center of

How Sports Can Bring People Together
In Joe Humphreys believed that "sport has an uncanny ability to make us lose perspective, bring the worst in people, facilitates a decline into gang
culture and creation of barriers between groups". He also believed that sports are not ideal for family relationships. I disagree with his point. In doing
this I am going to argue against his believe by making clear reference to Sport as a unifier.
There are many positive things which sports bring to the world. But my main focus is how sport can bring different people together. Looking back
at Joe's words he only focuses on the negative which sports brings out of people. All the descriptions he mentions is only a hand full of people.
People are there to enjoy themselves and support the team they love. What Joe is describing is the hooligans not the supporters. These people bring
out the negative image of what supporters are like. "Sport is a universal language that brings people together, no matter what their origin, background,
religious beliefs race or economic status." As shown in image one, sport brings all kinds of people together.
Mandela saw sport as a way to brings South Africans. He knew that people will not automatically change once he was elected president. He knew that
it would take time and he believed that through sport the healing will go faster. No one predicted South Africa would make the finals, let alone win the
crown jewel of rugby in 1995 a year after Nelson Mandela was elected president. But the

Pros And Cons Of Playing Sports Essay
In today's world, parents either push their children out into the real world, or they keep the real world hidden from them. Parents keep their kids
from doing so much in life because of their own fear. Every day children ask their parents for something; in most situations it is an easy "yes" or
"no", but in others it is a little harder to answer. In situations such as if they can buy something or go somewhere it is an easy answer, but in situations
such as playing sports, they have to consider the pros and cons before they give an answer. Although there are many risks involved in playing sports,

Physical safety is important to think about, but over protecting your child is harming them in many ways. Keeping the real world hidden from them is
going to make it harder on them in the long run, they need to know that they cannot always win at life, and that they must work together to make this
world a better place. Playing sports may have its risks, but it also teaches valuable lessons. Children get hurt daily, so why not let them benefit from it.
Every sport has potential risk factors. Injuries are very common in sports. When signing up for sports you are potentially signing up to have nose
bleeds and sometimes even death. When professional snowmobiler Caleb Moore signed up for extreme snowmobiling he knew the risks that were
involved in it. During his run in the snowmobiling freestyle competition he "came up short and the skis on the front of his snowmobile caught the lip
of the landing area, sending [him] flying over the handle bars", which led to his death (Golinkin 616). Although Moore's death is looked at as a
tragedy, it really is not. Caleb Moore died doing what he loved, and most incredibly, "He literally died trying to fly" (Golinkin 617). Although the risk
factor is very high when playing sports, the benefits could make it well worth it. Playing sports is a mental, physical and emotional thrill. "Sports, even
violent and dangerous sports, continue to represent something

Why Soccer Is the Best Sport Essay
L.A. essay Why soccer is the best sport By: Omar Soccer is the most played sport worldwide, many people love it and I'm one of them, it is my
favorite sport because you can improve your skills with your feet, and get a lot of exercise. By writing this essay, I hope that I can provide more
information about the sport and maybe convert the people who dislike the sport into fans. I have heard from some people that soccer is a boring
sport, but the truth is, it's a very interesting sport with a lot of excitement in it. When playing soccer, ball control is critical, you need possession of
the ball in order to keep it away from the other team players, and at times, it can be fun because if you have possession of the ball most of the game,

If you play soccer, you have to practice in order to win, just like any other sport. When playing a game, you need to do moves that you have
practiced, to get past the other teams defense and score a goal, and you also have to teach yourself mentally to think before you react. If you have
the ball, you can't just kick it randomly and hope to score, you have to think of your other teammates and work with them to get the ball up the
field. Another part of soccer that is very critical is passing. You have to pass the ball and develop new techniques and ways to control how the game is
played. The last part is that you need to be fit in order to play soccer, because you are constantly on the field, and you don't get a lot of breaks, because
the game never really stops except for halftime and when a foul is called or if you are waiting for the ball to come. When you're on defense, and
playing a good team, you can be running around a ton, and you get tired really easily, especially when someone is on a breakaway, you will have to
sprint down the field to try to stop them. If you play soccer a lot over a long time, you will develop good leg strength. Exercise is critical to the
human body, and you will get a whole bunch of it by playing soccer. I hope this essay encourages parents to in–role their kids to play soccer because

Descriptive Essay About Sports And Football
"Sport" comes from the Old French desport meaning "leisure", with the oldest definition in English from around 1300 being "anything humans find
amusing or entertaining".[9]
Other meanings include gambling and events staged for the purpose of gambling; hunting; and games and diversions, including ones that require
exercise.[10] Roget 's defines the noun sport as an "activity engaged in for relaxation and amusement" with synonyms including diversion and
recreation.[11]
Nomenclature
The singular term "sport" is used in most English dialects to describe the overall concept (e.g. "children taking part in sport"), with "sports" used to
describe multiple activities (e.g. "football and rugby are the most popular sports in England"). American English uses "sports" for both terms.

The offense of football is one unit that goes on the field to play against the opponents' defense. When the offensive unit scores or turns the ball
over, it goes to the sideline to await its turn to go back out on to the field, and the same rules apply for the defensive unit. Football scores can be in
increments of one, two, three, and six points. They are scored by kicking a field goal after a touchdown, tackling for safety, kicking a field goal in
regulation play, running the ball into the end zone. Football is played at a high speed with a lot of intensity. Basketball, on the other hand is
played inside on a court. There are only five players per team on the court at a time. Players have to play both offense and defense simultaneously.
The scoring in basketball is also different; points can be scored in increments of one, two and three, these are scored by shooting the ball into a

Merely not using a person's body is harmful. Not being active results in a person's muscles becoming weak and out of condition. The effectiveness of

Adults should have around thirty to sixty minutes of physical activity four to six times a week. Two hours and thirty minutes is the minimum a fully

Physical fitness has two main classifications–performance related and health related. People have different performance related requirements in
accordance with their occupation but all people have the same health related requirements (The World). Then there are two types of exercise that helps
tone a person's body while increasing its endurance. These are aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic exercise is exercise that uses the muscles and
bones. Cardio activities are a good example of this, such as running or biking. This type of exercise increases the strength of a person's heart and
boosts their lung capacity. Anaerobic exercise is an intense but short amount of exercise (Payment). Since it is only for a brief amount of time, it
does not require the amount of oxygen aerobic exercise does. Instead it uses glycogen which comes from the sugar in a person's blood. An example
of this exercise is weight lifting or sprinting. A person's requires both anaerobic and aerobic exercise for good health. Simply doing a cardio work out
is not healthy, and for a person to see real results there must be some activity like weight lifting ("Anaerobic").

Sports In Sports

  • 1. Sports In Sports Introduction The primary object of sports is, of course, exercise, but sports have a far greater impact on the wellbeing of many besides physical health. Introducing new opportunities for youth, sports create unbreakable bonds, build athletes' characters, unite communities, and promote teamwork. Undoubtedly, sports can positively impact many children of all ages. As children grow older and become more athletic, parents and athletes may consider specializing in one sport to maximize the athlete's chance of earning a scholarship for college; furthermore, almost every youth athlete, myself included, dreams of becoming a professional athlete one day, so they will do anything to achieve that goal. On the contrary, specializing in one sport may have the opposite effect. Depriving themselves from diverse environments, specialized athletes are excluded from valuable lessons that are beneficial for sports and life. Specializing in one sport today is not merely playing one season of a sport, but specialization is intensely concentrating on one sport year–round. For this reason, athletes should play multiple sports because focusing on one sport all year does not produce the same benefits as playing multiple sports throughout the year. Most athletes, including myself, would probably agree that they love more than one sport, and if this is the case, then athletes should participate in every sport they love. After all, the purpose of sports is not to earn money or to become famous but to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. The Importance of Physical Activity Essay Physical Activity is undeniably good for everyone, not only does it keep you fit and healthy but when started at a young age, it can set up good habits for life. Sometimes however, people do not take care of their physical wellbeing, resulting in obesity and other eating disorders which can be detrimental to their health. Obesity is the condition of being seriously overweight. It is now considered a global health epidemic by the World Health Organization (2000) (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Physical activity is important to children in the middle childhood age group because a staggering amount of children have become overweight in the last few decades and teachers play a role in preventing obesity by becoming a positive role model,...show more content... It is because of this high level of cognitive function that physical activity and nutrition are extremely important (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). They affect the child's physical wellbeing in terms of energy levels, growth and the ability to concentrate (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). As children grow they continue to need physical activity. One of the methods of exercise that is popular with children in the middle childhood age is rough and tumble play or 'play fighting' (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Unfortunately, this sort of play is often discouraged by schools because of the possibility that someone may become injured. (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Teachers must find the balance between protecting children from getting hurt and allowing them to run and jump to release the copious amounts of energy that they have to burn (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Another unfortunate hindrance to physical activity in schools is the notion that physical activity takes away from time that could be used for academic studies. This is unjustified however, because children of this age group are unable to sit and concentrate for long periods of time without being able to get up and move (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Teachers can play a large role when it comes to addressing and preventing obesity. Because children spend such a large portion of their time with the teacher, it is the teacher Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Essay On Peds In Sports Keep The Playing Field Even Performance enhancing drugs, otherwise known as "PED's" are without a doubt the most controversial and most talked about topics in sports business. Every year, athletes across the country are suspended, fined, and sometimes banned from the professional leagues that they are a part of. The National Basketball Association (NBA), National Football League (NFL), Major League Soccer (MLS), and Major League Baseball (MLB) are all among the most well–known leagues and associations that crack down aggressively on the use of these substances that provide unfair advantages towards players. The MLB is the league that draws the most attention in the case of suspending and banning players. While there are many conflicting opinions and views when regarding the legalization of these illegal substances, performance enhancing drugs take away from the natural skill, ability, and hard work put in towards the activity at place. PED's are a form of "cheating" and should not be allowed to be enabled by professional athletes in any pro sport....show more content... Human Growth Hormone (HGH) is a type of PED that improves endurance, stamina, and strength ("The Benefits & Dangers of Human Growth Hormone" 2016). HGH is a common substance that is taken by MLB players. Many believe that these drugs give an unfair advantage to users. However, other people think that these drugs should be taken by all professional athletes in every professional sport. A large number of athletes have admitted to have used or been caught using PED's in the past years. In 2009, Professional baseball player Alex Rodriguez admitted to abusing the MLB's substance abuse policy while he played for the Texas Rangers. Resulting in the loss of an appeal and he was suspended 162 games in January of 2014 ("Alex Rodriguez Fast Facts" Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Sport and the Media Essay examples Sport and the Media The growth of television as a significant cultural form during the 1960s put the relationship between sport and the media on the public agenda. In late 1969, the US magazine Sports Illustrated drew attention to the ways in which television was transforming sport. In effect, sport in the television age was a 'whole new game'. The growing economic and cultural significance of television for sport gradually became a pertinent issue in countries around the world.Clearly sport and television had developed a degree of interdependence. They belonged together 'like ham and eggs'. In the view of some, television had 'made' sport Newsweek expressed concern, in 1967, over the extent...show more content... Media organizations exist within legal frameworks that determine their scope. In the United Kingdom, the BBC is a public corporation, and the ITV system is overseen by a public body, the Independent Television Commission. Both are charged with a statutory responsibility to provide a broad range of material, which includes sport coverage. The introduction of Channel 4 in 1982, with its statutory obligation to be alternative and innovative, had an impact on the range of sports covered In the USA free market forces are not subject to as much restriction, but there are still laws, rules and regulations that impact upon sport coverage The press in both countries are subject to less restriction from government. Sport coverage in the British tabloid press is dominated by a very small range of sports, with football typically providing more than half of the content. While some sport events, such as the Olympic games and the soccer World Cup, win huge audiences, the audience for much television sport is not, by television's standards, large. Part of the appeal of sport for television producers is its cheapness. It can fill hours of the schedule at relatively low cost. • 5. Argumentative Essay Boxing Boxing – a violent cage fight, or a crowd pleasing sport? Boxing is a high intensified sport that can be seen as helping the fighter in life or permanently damaging the fighters future. Many say that boxing is one of the safest sports; however, boxing can leave permanent brain damage from constant punches to the skull. The sport boxing is for managers to earn money while their fighter is in the ring fighting against another human until one gives up, or gets knocked out. A fight could be the end of one's career, or even one's life. Boxing should be banned because the money earned does not trump the risk of death, the mixed messages from fighters in the ring confuse the laws regarding assault, and the constant punches to and athletes head leaves permanent damage. The death of one is not worth the money earned from winning a fight. This is important to realize because the expense of one's life is worth way more than the winnings of a cage fight. In "On Boxing," Joyce asserts directly why she thinks boxing is not a humanized sport: "In the boxing ring, even in our greatly humanized times, death is always a possibility – which is why some of us prefer to watch films or tapes of fights already past, already defined as history" (source c). Joyce is stating that many watch tapes from the past when boxing first started because it was much safer then, than it is now. Also in "On Boxing," Carol states directly her opinion for the sport boxing: "In no other sport can so much take Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Peds In Sports In the recent history of American sports, there has been a surplus of the use of Performance Enhancing Drugs, "PEDs". This has varied from the case in Major League Baseball and the "biogenesis" scandal, to the case that involves Lance Armstrong in cycling. In addition, Russia is facing a ban from the 2016 Olympics in Rio for the usage of PEDs. In fact, according to Kalyeena Makortoff, "...Russian track and field athletes, which were encouraged and covered–up by coaches, doctors, and state and sports officials, (What You need to Know about Russia's Doping Scandal, Makortoff) to use PEDs. With the usage of these drugs, it is known that it can have short term success in an athlete's sport which is an unfair advantage. Some argue that this...show more content... The sports industry will not tolerate athletes using the drugs and in the long run killing himself or herself by using the drugs while an athlete for a sport. Legalizing the use of Performance Enhancing Drugs could also become a sport of its own by athletes looking for the best drug possible and find drugs that can turn them more into creature than human. Then sports will truly not be sport, it is going to become a "shot race" for the next injection. This situation could only go for so long until a detrimental situation happens when in the middle of the usage of PEDs, a life is lost from not using the drugs properly. According to Doctor Thomas H. Murray "The drug race in sport has the potential to create a slow–motion public health catastrophe." (Top 10 Pros and Cons Should performance enhancing drugs (such as steroids) be accepted in sports?, Procon.) In conclusion, Performance Enhancing Drugs such as steroids should not be legalized in the sporting world. This is because of the long term health of the person, an unfair advantage that happens when using Performance Enhancing Drugs, and the argument for legalizing PEDs is simply asinine. Remember, that in the sports world many believe that the rules can be flexible if the right loophole is found, and some may find a way to work the system. So those that try to use the drugs, just remember it isn't the rules you are bending and breaking, it is your body that is being broken in the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 8. Esports Essays Brandon Chow Mrs. Mulligan English 10 Honors 20 March 2013 Competitive Gaming Competitive gaming, also known as e–sports, is becoming a worldwide phenomenon. With huge events and tournaments that are watched by millions of passionate fans, many people are beginning to question whether playing video games can be considered a real sport. Even though e–sports may not be as physically demanding as traditional sports like football and basketball, the structure, strong fan base and the requirements to seriously contend in the competitive gaming scene legitimize it as a "real" sport. It is important to gain an understanding of the complete picture of e–sports before classifying it as a real sport. Competitive gaming's origins...show more content... Last October, Riot held the League of Legends Season 2 World Championships, a tournament that brought the world's best teams together for a week of intense matches. $1 million went to the overall champion, while a total of $5 million was spread out over the course of Season 2. Apart from the unprecedented cash prizes, the League of Legends tournament was able to bring in over 8 million "unique viewers" online, viewership that is greater than the National Hockey League's (Heaven and Robinson). In South Korea individual e–sports events for the popular real–time strategy game StarCraft 2 bring in over 100,000 live attendants to go alongside huge numbers of online spectators (Robinson). On top of this, competitive gaming's popularity is continuing to grow through 2013. David Ting, founder of Imagine Game Network's professional gaming league, states that online traffic for the company's tournaments is "doubling every six months"(qtd. in Heaven). Who would've thought that playing video games would turn into such a loved spectator sport? Apart from the large following of people, the competitive gaming scene shares many of the same structural characteristics as traditional sports like football and baseball, as is shown by the game League of Legends. Like conventional games, League of Legends features a regular season where prominent and upcoming teams verse each other to climb the standings in their divisions. When the regular season ends, the

"Research suggests that 2 1/2 hours per week of even leisurely physical activity–like brisk walking–is enough to significantly improve glucose tolerance." By going walking instead of sitting by a television screen, one can prevent a disease like diabetes which requires constant medication. Decisions like taking steps instead of elevator can make a huge difference to one's health. Besides for the aforementioned, being active strengthens the body, making it more reliable. Activity works the bones and muscles, making them able to handle more. Bones are living tissue. "Weight–bearing physical activity causes new bone tissue to form, and this makes bones stronger. This kind of physical activity also makes muscles stronger. Bones and muscles both become stronger when muscles push and tug against bones during physical activity." • 11. Introduction to Soccer Essay Soccer is a popular sport played all over the world. Even though it has only been popular in the United States for the past 30 years, soccer has been a long time favorite most everywhere else. The sport dates back to the Egyptians, who played games involving the kicking of a ball. Now, the sport has grown to a global pastime, including men's and women's teams, and the World Cup (which is played every four years). Soccer originated with kicking games played by people in ancient civilizations. The modern version came about in the early nineteenth century, in England. It started as a game involving kicking and handing, but later this branched off into two separate sports: rugby and football (which is what the English call soccer). Around...show more content... In addition to the field itself, all that is needed for a game is two goals (eight feet high and eight yards apart) and a ball. Each player wears hard plastic or padded shingaurd, covered by long socks, for protection during play. Cleats are also worn for traction on the field. A goalie may also wear a special padded shirt, and gloves to protect his or her hands. A standard field, as regulated by the Federation Internationale de Football Association (or FIFA), has a length between 100 and 130 yards, and a width of between 50 and 100 yards. The rules of play for soccer have deliberately been kept simple. The referee makes most of the decisions, and attempts to encourage fair play. The game starts off with a kick off, and the teams are allowed to pass, dribble, juggle, head, kick, and shoot the ball to place it down the field, and (hopefully, or eventually) into their opponent's goal. If the ball is kicked off the field over the length of the field, the other team is given a throw–in, where the ball is thrown over the player's head, and back onto the field. If the ball is kicked over the goal, or across the width of the field, either a corner kick results (by the offensive team, where the ball is placed on the corner of the field and kicked into play) or the defensive team is awarded a goal kick, where the ball is placed on the corner of the goal box, and kicked back into play. If a goal is scored, the ball is taken back to the center of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. How Sports Can Bring People Together In Joe Humphreys believed that "sport has an uncanny ability to make us lose perspective, bring the worst in people, facilitates a decline into gang culture and creation of barriers between groups". He also believed that sports are not ideal for family relationships. I disagree with his point. In doing this I am going to argue against his believe by making clear reference to Sport as a unifier. There are many positive things which sports bring to the world. But my main focus is how sport can bring different people together. Looking back at Joe's words he only focuses on the negative which sports brings out of people. All the descriptions he mentions is only a hand full of people. People are there to enjoy themselves and support the team they love. What Joe is describing is the hooligans not the supporters. These people bring out the negative image of what supporters are like. "Sport is a universal language that brings people together, no matter what their origin, background, religious beliefs race or economic status." As shown in image one, sport brings all kinds of people together. Mandela saw sport as a way to brings South Africans. He knew that people will not automatically change once he was elected president. He knew that it would take time and he believed that through sport the healing will go faster. No one predicted South Africa would make the finals, let alone win the crown jewel of rugby in 1995 a year after Nelson Mandela was elected president. But the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Pros And Cons Of Playing Sports Essay In today's world, parents either push their children out into the real world, or they keep the real world hidden from them. Parents keep their kids from doing so much in life because of their own fear. Every day children ask their parents for something; in most situations it is an easy "yes" or "no", but in others it is a little harder to answer. In situations such as if they can buy something or go somewhere it is an easy answer, but in situations such as playing sports, they have to consider the pros and cons before they give an answer. Although there are many risks involved in playing sports, there are also many benefits. Keeping a child from playing a sport because it is dangerous limits the child's possibilities and benefits that...show more content... Physical safety is important to think about, but over protecting your child is harming them in many ways. Keeping the real world hidden from them is going to make it harder on them in the long run, they need to know that they cannot always win at life, and that they must work together to make this world a better place. Playing sports may have its risks, but it also teaches valuable lessons. Children get hurt daily, so why not let them benefit from it. Every sport has potential risk factors. Injuries are very common in sports. When signing up for sports you are potentially signing up to have nose bleeds and sometimes even death. When professional snowmobiler Caleb Moore signed up for extreme snowmobiling he knew the risks that were involved in it. During his run in the snowmobiling freestyle competition he "came up short and the skis on the front of his snowmobile caught the lip of the landing area, sending [him] flying over the handle bars", which led to his death (Golinkin 616). Although Moore's death is looked at as a tragedy, it really is not. Caleb Moore died doing what he loved, and most incredibly, "He literally died trying to fly" (Golinkin 617). Although the risk factor is very high when playing sports, the benefits could make it well worth it. Playing sports is a mental, physical and emotional thrill. • 15. Why Soccer Is the Best Sport Essay L.A. essay Why soccer is the best sport By: Omar Soccer is the most played sport worldwide, many people love it and I'm one of them, it is my favorite sport because you can improve your skills with your feet, and get a lot of exercise. By writing this essay, I hope that I can provide more information about the sport and maybe convert the people who dislike the sport into fans. I have heard from some people that soccer is a boring sport, but the truth is, it's a very interesting sport with a lot of excitement in it. When playing soccer, ball control is critical, you need possession of the ball in order to keep it away from the other team players, and at times, it can be fun because if you have possession of the ball most of the game, ...show more content... If you play soccer, you have to practice in order to win, just like any other sport. When playing a game, you need to do moves that you have practiced, to get past the other teams defense and score a goal, and you also have to teach yourself mentally to think before you react. If you have the ball, you can't just kick it randomly and hope to score, you have to think of your other teammates and work with them to get the ball up the field. Another part of soccer that is very critical is passing. You have to pass the ball and develop new techniques and ways to control how the game is played. The last part is that you need to be fit in order to play soccer, because you are constantly on the field, and you don't get a lot of breaks, because the game never really stops except for halftime and when a foul is called or if you are waiting for the ball to come. When you're on defense, and playing a good team, you can be running around a ton, and you get tired really easily, especially when someone is on a breakaway, you will have to sprint down the field to try to stop them. If you play soccer a lot over a long time, you will develop good leg strength. Exercise is critical to the human body, and you will get a whole bunch of it by playing soccer. I hope this essay encourages parents to in–role their kids to play soccer because it's an amazing Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Although, there are many ways for me to be entertained, I prefer the enjoyment of sports. As a youngster I enjoyed playing backyard games. We rounded up neighborhood kids and played for fun. We played either football or basketball every weekend. These two sports are the favorites of those who play them around the world. While these sports are alike in many ways, they are very different in other aspects. When the offensive unit scores or turns the ball over, it goes to the sideline to await its turn to go back out on to the field, and the same rules apply for the defensive unit. Football scores can be in increments of one, two, three, and six points. They are scored by kicking a field goal after a touchdown, tackling for safety, kicking a field goal in regulation play, running the ball into the end zone. Football is played at a high speed with a lot of intensity. Basketball, on the other hand is played inside on a court. There are only five players per team on the court at a time. Players have to play both offense and defense simultaneously. The scoring in basketball is also different; points can be scored in increments of one, two and three, these are scored by shooting the ball into a hoop. Basketball is a game that is played by skilled people who can jump high, shoot well, and have great ball handling skills. Playing basketball requires you to have to have endurance, because running from offense to defense and back to offense requires you to be in great shape. Basketball is played at a medium pace and can be very exciting and nail biting. To sum it all up, both of these sports are equally exciting. They are both played with a lot enthusiasm and heart.
