Different Approaches Of Teaching Second Language
Throughout history, different approaches of teaching second language have been developed. These approaches have been adopted by some and
criticized by others. Nobody has ever agreed on a certain approach to be the best or the worst. Language teaching methods mainly refer to the
approaches that the teacher adopts and the materials used by the teacher to facilitate the process of learning. The methods of language teaching have
been prioritized according to the main skills in any target language which are listening, writing, speaking and reading. In this essay, we will highlight
two of the teaching approaches and the advantages and the disadvantages of each:
1. Grammar–Translation Method
2. The Direct Method
Grammar – Translation Method: This method is the traditional method and it has been adopted mainly to teach dead languages like Latin. This
method has been applied by many teachers because it is easy for them as it does not require the teacher to be a good speaker of the second language and
the text books are the main aids. The main concern in grammar – translation method as its name suggests is to teach the grammar rules of the second
language and the students have to memorize a lot of vocabulary words with their meaning in the native language. In this method classes are taught in
the native language with a little use of the second language. This method focuses only on the reading and the writing skills as the students

Reflection On English Course
After taking the University English course for a semester, I realize the course content is different from my anticipation but it is much more useful than
what I expected. The aspects that I would like to improve in this course including my speaking, reading and writing skills. As the course mainly focus
on the writing part, I find it really helpful and practical for my subsequent studies. Especially for the sentence structures part, which is also the main
improvement I would like get from this course, it really inspires me a lot. I hoped I could master the use of different sentence structures because my
previous writings were limited in some simple and dull structures, making my writing mediocre. After participating in this course, I really gain a lot.
Many unclear concepts in sentence patterns that I have had since my secondary school are cleared now. For instance, in making some complex
sentences, I always make grammatical mistakes and use erroneous subjects but do not know why they are wrongly used. The...show more content...

discover I was diligent in the first few lessons but was not absorbed in the subsequent lessons due to the heavy workload of other subjects. I will
try my best not to be a deadline fighter in next semester so that I can enjoy and focus on the lessons. Apart from improving my English through this
course, I planned to do some actions in my daily lives in order to achieve my English goals. For example, I decided to read more English books and
newspapers. It was difficult for me to read the whole books so I changed to watch English films and videos with English subtitles. Also, I read BBC
News in the website twice a week. I found my English become better as I knew more vocabularies and my reading speed became

English 101
October 19, 2016 Reflection Paper
It's hard to believe that it's already time for Midterms in my English 101 class. The adventure has been a lot easier than I at first anticipated. In any
case, I am happy that I am taking the class and learning from it. In the beginning it appeared somewhat hard however I was resolved to compel my
way through this class regardless of what difficulties I needed to persevere.
On the first day of my English 101 class I was apprehensive, I had no clue what's in store from the class. As I discovered what the class would have
been similar to, I let myself know I was going to attempt to get an B or higher toward the end of the semester and put all the exertion I had into each
paper I kept in touch with, I was not going to set this class aside for later and linger like I use to do. A standout amongst the most troublesome...show

since I don't need to experience the battle of how things are done or on the chance that I don't understand how I should do what I am expected to do.
These aptitudes may empower me to enjoy additionally composing and not need to stress over having a written assignment.
This course has helped me with many chances to figure out how to properly write papers. Prior to this class, I had little experience with how to
build a legitimate paper. It has taken experience, and getting normal evaluations, to show me how to precisely write. Despite the fact that this course
required different papers to be turned in, I am appreciative to have possessed the capacity to gain from my oversights and develop as a writer. I have
constantly cherished written work, however now I am ready to improve my writing as the semester

Essay About My English Class
I can remember seeing that I had to take an English class my first semester of college. I was already overwhelmed with starting college, and having
to write college essays made me get even more nervous. I sat down with my mom and decided to look at the English classes available, and I finally
decided that I had to take an evening class to make it work in my schedule. The first day of English came and now looking back it was not as bad as I
thought. It made me a better writer and be where I am today. It may have taken me some time to get where I am today, but at least I am on the right
track. English Composition helped me realize that I am my own author and have strengths that I did not realize I had. When I first started college I did
not know what to expect with an English class. I liked writing about topics that interested me, but high school did not allow me to do that. I took

me that I am an author when I did not think I was. He also told us to read our essays out loud when we proofread, and I always did this technique
before submitting all my essays. I can remember having to write my first essay and I was scared, because I felt like I had to get a good grade. I
started thinking about what tools I could use to help me, and I decided to go to The Learning Center to help with my essay. When I went there they
would make edits to my essay and then explain what I should change. The tutor noticed I used multiple choppy sentences and commas in spots there
should not be. Sometimes I would even go twice to make sure I did not miss any minor mistakes. Going there helped me feel more confident as a
writer and I learned from my mistakes. I had many helpful techniques from multiple people that shaped me into the writer I am

My experience throughout English 101 Essay
My Experience throughout English 101
As writers, many students write to the expectations of their professors and not to their fullest potential. Throughout English 101 I had been writing
only to please my professor or to fill the basic requirement to pass English. I always felt that my writing ability was never enough for my professors
throughout the previous years. They always wanted clear and concise essays, which for some reason was unreachable by me. However, starting college
and taking English 101 helped me with my weaknesses and changed my technique of writing essays. My experience in English 101 taught me to write
to my fullest potential and to write what I felt; rather then writing what was required.

Also, by revising my essays I felt that I had the chance of writing with a broader sense.
Another weakness that I had coming into English 101 was my way of reading. I remember having to read an essay or book 3 or 4 times before I
could ever sit down and write about it. I was looking and at the words all wrong. However, my professor introduced a technique of reading critically.
"A critical analysis, on the other hand, takes a viewpoint and attempts to its validity;" (Trimble, 95) In Trimble's quote he is trying say that a critical
analysis helps a reader understand what the author is really trying to point out. This was the same approach that was taught to me by my professor.
This type of analysis helped me understand better what the author was trying to convey and it also helped me explain it better in my essays.
Additionally, another weakness that I had when coming into English 101 was that I was a selfish writer. Like Trimble said, "His natural tendency as a
writer is to think primarily of himself– hence to write primarily for himself." (Trimble, 4) I was a writer who only cared about impressing one type of
audience my professor and not writing to prove a point or expand my knowledge to several other audiences. However, after writing several
unsatisfying essays I had come to realize that my style of writing was too narrow and boring. In this realization of writing I discovered that what
matters the most is pleasing your audience (many not one), and

My Experience In English Writing
English is a core concept in the Untied States and other countries that has allowed inviduals to advance their knowledge. Not only does English
provide an advancement in knowlege, but has created a way for individuals to share their thoughts and feelings through writing. Which is why English
is one of the four subjects that is required to be taught in almost every school district in America including mine. I began taking English from a young
age which allowed me to take advanced placement English IV my senior year at Tupelo High School. Advanced Placement English IV allowed me to
further my education in writing, which in return allowed me to overcome obstacles, low points and discover strengths I never knew I had. Like any
other thing in life there are always obstacles individuals face everyday, for me in my English IV class writing was something that was very
challenging. The first challenge writing presented to me was trying to organize all of my thoughts, so that it made sense. The first essay I ever wrote in
my English class was a journal entry about a memorable experience, so with that being said I decided I would write about the experience I had while
hunting with my Dad. The hunting experience with my dad had many different parts, and one of my biggest challenges I had was organizing my
thoughts, so that it flowed correctly. Since I was telling a story within my journal I realized that I was jumping around more then I should have and this
became a problem. I learned

Essay about Important Language Skills
Important Language Skill Out of the Four Language Skills
Communication plays a vital role in our daily life. To acquire good communication, command on four language skills is important i.e. Reading, Writing,
Listening and Speaking. I studied a few articles in which the authors specified the significance of each language skill. They found a strong positive
relation between the four skills and stated that none of these is complete without the other. Effectivecommunication is acquired after learning these
skills well. My goal in this paper is to highlight the importance of the four language skills especially reading, which I consider to be the most important
language skill.
For this purpose, I have organized my paper into four main...show more content...
First, you must want to improve your communication skills. Next, you must understand them, and recognize their importance in the communication
process. Then, you need to learn some new skills. Finally you must practice good skills to become a better, more effective communicator.
Let's look at each of them separately:
READING
Reading is one of the language skills which is the most important activities any successful student does in any course of study. Reading is an active
process; you need to be attentive and concentrate while reading any text. It a purposeful process, which enhances the reader's knowledge, vocabulary
and intellect. We read different things at different places and occasions and perceive different meanings of our readings. Reading enable us to think
with a broad mind. New questions arise while we read different types of journals, newspapers, articles, books, magazines and every contextual
material. This questioning enables further reading to find their answers and the never ending process carries on. Reading opens our mind and soul. To
be a good writer, listener or speaker, one needs to learn through effective readings. It is the source of wisdom.
When you read a book, you have to keep in mind a collection of typescript, their backdrop, objective, account, and fine distinction, additionally the
various sweep and sub–plots that interlace their approach through each story. That's a reasonable bit to

Essay Of English As A Global Language
Language is an apparatus enabling people to interact with each other (Wright, 1999). Education, trade and economics all contribute to the development
of a language, being globally recognised. Linguistics enables individuals to learn, teach and to develop their own unique dialect that would help them to
communicate with people. Due to globalization, English is the only global language used internationally for economic, political and business reasons
and no other languages can compete against it due to having military, economic and political power. Despite English as a global language, it diminishes

However, linguist mixed the community and people did not rely on people translating anymore. Hence this issue was solved by Pidgin and Lingua

growth of English expands globally. For example, English dominates academic books, media and technology. Even though languages are being wiped
off due to having one global language, people choose to learn English; for example most popular and awaited movies are from English films even
though Bollywood tries to compete with Hollywood – Hollywood is still coming first in the ladder for best film production. Moreover, due to the
increasing usage of internet, the strength of English language becomes enforceable in the computer. The economic and trade amongst countries is also
accomplished by English, also Food packages that individuals eat and gadget that people use all have instructions in English. Buck (2005) stated that
English has the top position and 30% of the population is "reasonably competent" as it is helpful in the fields of economy, politics and commerce
allowing individuals to gain employment opportunities when fluent in English. Political bodies, economic power and many commercial institutions all
use English language as a source of communication. Trudgill, (2000) stated that more than 80% of academic, scientific and technological

Thank you. At the time, I despised all the activities you made my class do. I despised the months we spent going over commas. I despised the books
we were forced to read. Little did I know how many of these thing would be used in the future.
I am now an expert in the usage of the comma. Those months spent doing comma practices at the start of the class finally paid off. I appreciate
Shakespeare in a way I would never have if it wasn't for you. I remember struggling through A Midsummer Night's Dream as the thought of giving

Everyone went full out with costumes and props. I also understand symbolism and have learned how to persevere through particularly mundane
books. We read Animal Farm in that class. The fact that a story about farm animals could stand for real life effects blew my mind. Additionally, for
every paper of mine you 'lost' and that I would later find right where it was supposed to be, I learned to be more assertive.
My love for English stopped twirling in the breeze and, for the first time, began to flicker.

Reflective Essay On English 101
Proficient writing is an essential skill in all aspects of academic and professional achievement. English 101, Introduction to Composition and Rhetoric,
provided the framework to good writing, teaching me composition and rhetoric fundamentals, polishing up my grammar and style, and expressing a
clear message. English 102, Composition, Rhetoric, and Research, continued to build on the skills I learned in English 101, focusing on the subject
matter research process and employing various rhetorical and literary devices to better express a clear message to the reader. The course also
improved my critical thinking capacity, allowing me to culturally evaluate my target audience, present logically flowing arguments using appropriate
language and structure, and critically reviewing my writing projects for content and expression. Every writer inherently knows there's always room
to improve and I hold fast to this mindset in all academic, professional, and personal writing projects. English 102 has both challenged and inspired
me to grow into a much better writer than before I began the class, providing the necessary skills to be not just a good writer, but a great writer.
Most of my English 102 writing projects are rhetorical arguments, intended to persuade the reader in one direction or another. Reflecting on the many
skills I honed in English 102, my predetermined use of rhetorical strategies (ethos, logos, pathos), developing a concise thesis statement, and clearly

Today, Malaysians are very much exposed to the English language mainly through the education system and media. In Malaysia, English is known as
a second language, and the language contact is practically unavoidable for all Malaysians. Before Malaysian children are formally exposed to the
language in schools, most of them have already picked up some basic words and expressions especially if they are from an english speaking family.
Teaching English as a second or foreign language is always a battling ground for educators, more so for a country like Malaysia which is multiethnic
and multilingual. In Malaysia, most people speak their mother tongue as their first language, followed by the national language, Malay. For example, a
Malaysian Chinese may have Mandarin as his first language, Malay as his second language followed by English as his third. However, this might not be
a common pattern among all Malaysians. Among the urbanites, there may be a preference to use English as their first language instead of their native
language. Thus, the native language and the national language will be relegated to either second...show more content...
After having taught English to Malay learners for more than 4 years, it is found that most Malay learners, which also include university students, are
unable to grasp the English verbal system, with particular reference to the use of the English tenses. Therefore, the interest in the verbal system of these
two languages is not only typological but also pedagigically oriented. Language teachers frequently complain about students' inability to communicate
properly in English due to the insufficient knowledge of the target language's verbal system, which is the core component in the study of this language.
Hence, this study hopes to give a better understanding on how to help students use the correct verb

For me, learning a language is a complicated process. It is different from learning other subjects. It involves a lot of practices and follow up. When I
talk about my personal experience, I would say that I have a rich experience in learning English as a second language. English was taught to me for
ten years starting from grade seven till graduation from university. After graduation, I felt that I should improve my language skills. Therefore, I did a
lot of efforts personally to increase my fluency. Until now I still learn the language. Indeed, learning a language takes a lifetime.
I started learning English as a second language when I was in first intermediate. I still remember my first classes and my first teachers. I remember that
my teachers changed frequently in the first year but all of them have much in common. All of them used grammar translation method. They used to
write bilingual lists of words on board, then we, as students, were asked to copy these lists and memorize them by heart. All teaching concentrated on
reading and writing skills, but there were no activities concentrating on speaking or listening. In addition, grammar rules were taught in that stage of
learning the language as mathematics equations, and we were asked to memorize the rules as we...show more content...

Changes in Life Essay
In my life, I have been exposed to a challenge called change. Change can occur in many different ways and is dealt with in many different ways. I
have come to the awareness that change can be the deepest of all things. I always thought that change occurred when you moved to a state or when
you lost someone real close to you. Those are a challenge to change, yes, but change doesn't have to occur over a climactic incident. It can just appear
overnight when your brain winds up when it's time to do something different. Even with friends that you used to have and know that move on. For
example, most of my friends from elementary school, I don't even talk to them anymore. For obvious reasons, people will turn down the changes in life.
...show more content...
It's depressing how this works, but it's probably the most reason why people change. It's much like peer pressure which usually ends up in the wrong
direction. For example, I was almost peer pressured to consume alcohol and to do smoking. Fortunately, for me, I escaped that change and didn't
experience it. The people we adore love us so much that they want us to remain the way we are forever. Like how my mother always wanted me to
stay the same little child, but I grew up. Not all people can stay the same for a long time. If the people we love and adore would just accept the
change and go with it, they would understand where the change was coming from. It can be shaky to try to stop change and fight against it,
especially if the person wants to change a lot. When I was ready for high school, I was expected to change almost everything in my life. The reason
that somebody wants to change is usually not their choice, but a feeling that the person feels inside their head. Maybe the change isn't the best change,
but if you dig deeper, the person that you adore isn't really changing. They are just trying to find themselves and the one thing they need the most is the
support of the people who they care about the most. When I was attending college, I was expecting a lot of changing to take place. With the support
of my family and friends, it was no big deal for me.
When the people they care about the most, detach their change as

Learning English as a Second Language Essay
English is an international language which is used officially all around the world. Anybody who wants to make connections with the world we live in
should learn English. I had English language classes in my secondary and high school years. I also took some private English learning courses
throughout summers in my country, Turkey. However, I could not improve my English effectively as all Turkish students in Turkey. I fully agree that
English will be learned most efficiently in the boundaries of an English–speaking country not in the home country because of some cases. Therefore, I

American English, heard brief lectures presented in English by speakers with different native languages and answered questions based on the
lectures. The results indicated that both native and nonnative listeners scored significantly lower on listening comprehension tests when they
listened to nonnative speakers of English, and Chinese group scored significantly lower when listening to speakers who shared their native
language. Only Spanish group did well when they listened to their native speaker (174). This experiment showed that learning English from a
nonnative speaker may cause troubles in both listening and speaking parts of English. Additionally, I lacked of ability on word choice for the first
couple of months in the USA. For example, I was using adjective "too" for positive circumstances " instead of "very" or "so", and I used to say

the motivations before starting improving English. Goals can help youth to sort out what is important and what isn't. With goals, youth will only focus
on the things that they want to achieve and spend precious time on them. For example, learn to write a good essay during three month set as one's

role in improving English language. McDonough S. (1983: 142) stated that "motivation of the student is one of the most important factors influencing
their success or failure in learning the language." When studying English, youth might face a lot of different problems like environment problem,

The Dreaded English Class
The dreaded English 102. Could this be my final English course in my career as a student? I don't know for sure. I still need to decide what my
major will be in. There is something that I know for sure, that is, needing to take this class to move on. I am not certain how my time in this class
will go, but I plan to work hard to get the best grade that I can. Hence, I have decided to get this out of the way now, I look to fine–tune my writing
skills, and I expect this course to help me understand my writing style. To start, I chose this class because I knew that eventually I would need to
complete it. What better time to do it, than right now? I had recently completed a math course this past semester, so I did not want to take another
stressful class that I find to not be my strongest subject right after. My brother and some friends have mentioned that this course isn't as bad as it is
said to be. That is what pushed me to sign up and attempt to complete this course. Being a part time student and working full time is a lot to
balance on ones plate. I have learned that from experience. I formally was a full time student and worked part time, but the roles tend to reverse once
you find yourself struggling to pay bills. Seeing that this class isn't as costly as a math course, and isn't as time restraining either. This course will
give me more time at work and more time to study. This sums up the reasons I chose to complete English 102. I hope to gain more writing experience in

Different Approaches Of Teaching Second Language

  • 1. Different Approaches Of Teaching Second Language Throughout history, different approaches of teaching second language have been developed. These approaches have been adopted by some and criticized by others. Nobody has ever agreed on a certain approach to be the best or the worst. Language teaching methods mainly refer to the approaches that the teacher adopts and the materials used by the teacher to facilitate the process of learning. The methods of language teaching have been prioritized according to the main skills in any target language which are listening, writing, speaking and reading. In this essay, we will highlight two of the teaching approaches and the advantages and the disadvantages of each: 1. Grammar–Translation Method 2. The Direct Method Grammar – Translation Method: This method is the traditional method and it has been adopted mainly to teach dead languages like Latin. This method has been applied by many teachers because it is easy for them as it does not require the teacher to be a good speaker of the second language and the text books are the main aids. The main concern in grammar – translation method as its name suggests is to teach the grammar rules of the second language and the students have to memorize a lot of vocabulary words with their meaning in the native language. In this method classes are taught in the native language with a little use of the second language. This method focuses only on the reading and the writing skills as the students Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Reflection On English Course After taking the University English course for a semester, I realize the course content is different from my anticipation but it is much more useful than what I expected. The aspects that I would like to improve in this course including my speaking, reading and writing skills. As the course mainly focus on the writing part, I find it really helpful and practical for my subsequent studies. Especially for the sentence structures part, which is also the main improvement I would like get from this course, it really inspires me a lot. I hoped I could master the use of different sentence structures because my previous writings were limited in some simple and dull structures, making my writing mediocre. After participating in this course, I really gain a lot. Many unclear concepts in sentence patterns that I have had since my secondary school are cleared now. For instance, in making some complex sentences, I always make grammatical mistakes and use erroneous subjects but do not know why they are wrongly used. The...show more content... I will try my best not to be a deadline fighter in next semester so that I can enjoy and focus on the lessons. Apart from improving my English through this course, I planned to do some actions in my daily lives in order to achieve my English goals. For example, I decided to read more English books and newspapers. It was difficult for me to read the whole books so I changed to watch English films and videos with English subtitles. Also, I read BBC News in the website twice a week. I found my English become better as I knew more vocabularies and my reading speed became Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Reflection In English 101 Whitney Bailey Professor Johnson English 101 October 19, 2016 Reflection Paper It's hard to believe that it's already time for Midterms in my English 101 class. The adventure has been a lot easier than I at first anticipated. In any case, I am happy that I am taking the class and learning from it. In the beginning it appeared somewhat hard however I was resolved to compel my way through this class regardless of what difficulties I needed to persevere. On the first day of my English 101 class I was apprehensive, I had no clue what's in store from the class. As I discovered what the class would have been similar to, I let myself know I was going to attempt to get an B or higher toward the end of the semester and put all the exertion I had into each paper I kept in touch with, I was not going to set this class aside for later and linger like I use to do. Things have ended up less difficult now since I don't need to experience the battle of how things are done or on the chance that I don't understand how I should do what I am expected to do. These aptitudes may empower me to enjoy additionally composing and not need to stress over having a written assignment. This course has helped me with many chances to figure out how to properly write papers. Prior to this class, I had little experience with how to build a legitimate paper. It has taken experience, and getting normal evaluations, to show me how to precisely write. Despite the fact that this course required different papers to be turned in, I am appreciative to have possessed the capacity to gain from my oversights and develop as a writer. • 4. Essay About My English Class I can remember seeing that I had to take an English class my first semester of college. I was already overwhelmed with starting college, and having to write college essays made me get even more nervous. I sat down with my mom and decided to look at the English classes available, and I finally decided that I had to take an evening class to make it work in my schedule. The first day of English came and now looking back it was not as bad as I thought. It made me a better writer and be where I am today. It may have taken me some time to get where I am today, but at least I am on the right track. English Composition helped me realize that I am my own author and have strengths that I did not realize I had. When I first started college I did not know what to expect with an English class. I liked writing about topics that interested me, but high school did not allow me to do that. I took American History and we would have to write...show more content... I learned many techniques from my professor. He helped me realize that it is okay to have your own opinion as long as you back it up. He showed me that I am an author when I did not think I was. He also told us to read our essays out loud when we proofread, and I always did this technique before submitting all my essays. I can remember having to write my first essay and I was scared, because I felt like I had to get a good grade. I started thinking about what tools I could use to help me, and I decided to go to The Learning Center to help with my essay. When I went there they would make edits to my essay and then explain what I should change. The tutor noticed I used multiple choppy sentences and commas in spots there should not be. Sometimes I would even go twice to make sure I did not miss any minor mistakes. Going there helped me feel more confident as a writer and I learned from my mistakes. • 6. My experience throughout English 101 Essay My Experience throughout English 101 As writers, many students write to the expectations of their professors and not to their fullest potential. Throughout English 101 I had been writing only to please my professor or to fill the basic requirement to pass English. I always felt that my writing ability was never enough for my professors throughout the previous years. They always wanted clear and concise essays, which for some reason was unreachable by me. However, starting college and taking English 101 helped me with my weaknesses and changed my technique of writing essays. Also, by revising my essays I felt that I had the chance of writing with a broader sense. Another weakness that I had coming into English 101 was my way of reading. I remember having to read an essay or book 3 or 4 times before I could ever sit down and write about it. I was looking and at the words all wrong. However, my professor introduced a technique of reading critically. "A critical analysis, on the other hand, takes a viewpoint and attempts to its validity;" (Trimble, 95) In Trimble's quote he is trying say that a critical analysis helps a reader understand what the author is really trying to point out. This was the same approach that was taught to me by my professor. This type of analysis helped me understand better what the author was trying to convey and it also helped me explain it better in my essays. Additionally, another weakness that I had when coming into English 101 was that I was a selfish writer. Like Trimble said, "His natural tendency as a writer is to think primarily of himself– hence to write primarily for himself." (Trimble, 4) I was a writer who only cared about impressing one type of audience my professor and not writing to prove a point or expand my knowledge to several other audiences. However, after writing several unsatisfying essays I had come to realize that my style of writing was too narrow and boring. In this realization of writing I discovered that what matters the most is pleasing your audience (many not one), and Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Not only does English provide an advancement in knowlege, but has created a way for individuals to share their thoughts and feelings through writing. Which is why English is one of the four subjects that is required to be taught in almost every school district in America including mine. I began taking English from a young age which allowed me to take advanced placement English IV my senior year at Tupelo High School. Advanced Placement English IV allowed me to further my education in writing, which in return allowed me to overcome obstacles, low points and discover strengths I never knew I had. Like any other thing in life there are always obstacles individuals face everyday, for me in my English IV class writing was something that was very challenging. The first challenge writing presented to me was trying to organize all of my thoughts, so that it made sense. The first essay I ever wrote in my English class was a journal entry about a memorable experience, so with that being said I decided I would write about the experience I had while hunting with my Dad. The hunting experience with my dad had many different parts, and one of my biggest challenges I had was organizing my thoughts, so that it flowed correctly. Education, trade and economics all contribute to the development of a language, being globally recognised. Due to globalization, English is the only global language used internationally for economic, political and business reasons and no other languages can compete against it due to having military, economic and political power. • 10. My Love For English For a long time, one thing had always been the same: my love for English. It had always been a flame burning within me, something that could never be completely distinguished. I've had my share of both good and bad English teachers, from both I have gained important To my seventh grade English teacher: Thank you. At the time, I despised all the activities you made my class do. I despised the months we spent going over commas. I despised the books we were forced to read. Little did I know how many of these thing would be used in the future. I am now an expert in the usage of the comma. Those months spent doing comma practices at the start of the class finally paid off. I appreciate Shakespeare in a way I would never have if it wasn't for you. I remember struggling through A Midsummer Night's Dream as the thought of giving up swam through my head. At the end of the book, you had us divide into groups and act out scenes. Surprisingly, I had a great deal of fun. Everyone went full out with costumes and props. I also understand symbolism and have learned how to persevere through particularly mundane books. We read Animal Farm in that class. The fact that a story about farm animals could stand for real life effects blew my mind. Additionally, for every paper of mine you 'lost' and that I would later find right where it was supposed to be, I learned to be more assertive. My love for English stopped twirling in the breeze and, for the first time, began to flicker. To my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Reflective Essay On English 101 Proficient writing is an essential skill in all aspects of academic and professional achievement. English 101, Introduction to Composition and Rhetoric, provided the framework to good writing, teaching me composition and rhetoric fundamentals, polishing up my grammar and style, and expressing a clear message. English 102, Composition, Rhetoric, and Research, continued to build on the skills I learned in English 101, focusing on the subject matter research process and employing various rhetorical and literary devices to better express a clear message to the reader. The course also improved my critical thinking capacity, allowing me to culturally evaluate my target audience, present logically flowing arguments using appropriate language and structure, and critically reviewing my writing projects for content and expression. Every writer inherently knows there's always room to improve and I hold fast to this mindset in all academic, professional, and personal writing projects. English 102 has both challenged and inspired me to grow into a much better writer than before I began the class, providing the necessary skills to be not just a good writer, but a great writer. Most of my English 102 writing projects are rhetorical arguments, intended to persuade the reader in one direction or another. Reflecting on the many skills I honed in English 102, my predetermined use of rhetorical strategies (ethos, logos, pathos), developing a concise thesis statement, and clearly defining Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Today, Malaysians are very much exposed to the English language mainly through the education system and media. In Malaysia, English is known as a second language, and the language contact is practically unavoidable for all Malaysians. Before Malaysian children are formally exposed to the language in schools, most of them have already picked up some basic words and expressions especially if they are from an english speaking family. Teaching English as a second or foreign language is always a battling ground for educators, more so for a country like Malaysia which is multiethnic and multilingual. In Malaysia, most people speak their mother tongue as their first language, followed by the national language, Malay. For example, a Malaysian Chinese may have Mandarin as his first language, Malay as his second language followed by English as his third. However, this might not be a common pattern among all Malaysians. Among the urbanites, there may be a preference to use English as their first language instead of their native language. Thus, the native language and the national language will be relegated to either second...show more content... After having taught English to Malay learners for more than 4 years, it is found that most Malay learners, which also include university students, are unable to grasp the English verbal system, with particular reference to the use of the English tenses. Therefore, the interest in the verbal system of these two languages is not only typological but also pedagigically oriented. Language teachers frequently complain about students' inability to communicate properly in English due to the insufficient knowledge of the target language's verbal system, which is the core component in the study of this language. Hence, this study hopes to give a better understanding on how to help students use the correct verb Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. For me, learning a language is a complicated process. It is different from learning other subjects. It involves a lot of practices and follow up. When I talk about my personal experience, I would say that I have a rich experience in learning English as a second language. English was taught to me for ten years starting from grade seven till graduation from university. After graduation, I felt that I should improve my language skills. Therefore, I did a lot of efforts personally to increase my fluency. Until now I still learn the language. Indeed, learning a language takes a lifetime. I started learning English as a second language when I was in first intermediate. I still remember my first classes and my first teachers. I remember that my teachers changed frequently in the first year but all of them have much in common. All of them used grammar translation method. They used to write bilingual lists of words on board, then we, as students, were asked to copy these lists and memorize them by heart. All teaching concentrated on reading and writing skills, but there were no activities concentrating on speaking or listening. In addition, grammar rules were taught in that stage of learning the language as mathematics equations, and we were asked to memorize the rules as we...show more content... Of course, there are certain defects or gaps in my knowledge or ability to use the English language like using idioms and the appropriateness of some vocabulary. Idioms have many connotations and denotations in the English language. Sometimes I use an idiom and I mean something, but the connotations of the idiom means something else. Another gap of my knowledge of the language is the appropriateness of using certain vocabulary. English language entails high sense of using the appropriate word for describing or narrating something. To my mind, I have not reached this point Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Changes in Life Essay In my life, I have been exposed to a challenge called change. Change can occur in many different ways and is dealt with in many different ways. I have come to the awareness that change can be the deepest of all things. I always thought that change occurred when you moved to a state or when you lost someone real close to you. Those are a challenge to change, yes, but change doesn't have to occur over a climactic incident. It can just appear overnight when your brain winds up when it's time to do something different. Even with friends that you used to have and know that move on. For example, most of my friends from elementary school, I don't even talk to them anymore. For obvious reasons, people will turn down the changes in life. ...show more content... It's depressing how this works, but it's probably the most reason why people change. It's much like peer pressure which usually ends up in the wrong direction. For example, I was almost peer pressured to consume alcohol and to do smoking. Fortunately, for me, I escaped that change and didn't experience it. The people we adore love us so much that they want us to remain the way we are forever. Like how my mother always wanted me to stay the same little child, but I grew up. Not all people can stay the same for a long time. If the people we love and adore would just accept the change and go with it, they would understand where the change was coming from. It can be shaky to try to stop change and fight against it, especially if the person wants to change a lot. When I was ready for high school, I was expected to change almost everything in my life. The reason that somebody wants to change is usually not their choice, but a feeling that the person feels inside their head. Maybe the change isn't the best change, but if you dig deeper, the person that you adore isn't really changing. They are just trying to find themselves and the one thing they need the most is the support of the people who they care about the most. When I was attending college, I was expecting a lot of changing to take place. With the support of my family and friends, it was no big deal for me. When the people they care about the most, detach their change as Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Learning English as a Second Language Essay English is an international language which is used officially all around the world. Anybody who wants to make connections with the world we live in should learn English. I had English language classes in my secondary and high school years. I also took some private English learning courses throughout summers in my country, Turkey. However, I could not improve my English effectively as all Turkish students in Turkey. I fully agree that English will be learned most efficiently in the boundaries of an English–speaking country not in the home country because of some cases. Therefore, I came here, USA, to learn English better after graduation from my university. First, English is dealt with all the time while staying in an English–speaking...show more content... Neither was I able to get their points, nor could they understand me. The reasons were that my Turkish English teachers are not the experts in pronunciation and there is no class focusing on speaking at state schools in Turkey. An experiment was performed by Major et al. about speaking and listening problems for international people. Four groups of one hundred listeners, whose native languages were Chinese, Spanish, Japanese, and American English, heard brief lectures presented in English by speakers with different native languages and answered questions based on the lectures. The results indicated that both native and nonnative listeners scored significantly lower on listening comprehension tests when they listened to nonnative speakers of English, and Chinese group scored significantly lower when listening to speakers who shared their native language. Only Spanish group did well when they listened to their native speaker (174). This experiment showed that learning English from a nonnative speaker may cause troubles in both listening and speaking parts of English. Additionally, I lacked of ability on word choice for the first couple of months in the USA. For example, I was using adjective "too" for positive circumstances " instead of "very" or "so", and I used to say "according to me" instead of "in my Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 18. The Dreaded English Class The dreaded English 102. Could this be my final English course in my career as a student? I don't know for sure. I still need to decide what my major will be in. There is something that I know for sure, that is, needing to take this class to move on. I am not certain how my time in this class will go, but I plan to work hard to get the best grade that I can. Hence, I have decided to get this out of the way now, I look to fine–tune my writing skills, and I expect this course to help me understand my writing style. To start, I chose this class because I knew that eventually I would need to complete it. What better time to do it, than right now? I had recently completed a math course this past semester, so I did not want to take another stressful class that I find to not be my strongest subject right after. My brother and some friends have mentioned that this course isn't as bad as it is said to be. That is what pushed me to sign up and attempt to complete this course. Being a part time student and working full time is a lot to balance on ones plate. I have learned that from experience. I formally was a full time student and worked part time, but the roles tend to reverse once you find yourself struggling to pay bills. Seeing that this class isn't as costly as a math course, and isn't as time restraining either. This course will give me more time at work and more time to study. This sums up the reasons I chose to complete English 102. I hope to gain more writing experience in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
