Prior Educational Experience
Looking back on my prior educational experiences I would say that in a sense they did prepare me for college. By stating that they did get me ready for
college I knew that college was not going to be as hard for me as everyone has said it would be. Personally kindergarten and my elementary years did
not help pave a path towards college for me but my middle school and most importantly my high school years did with their testing and how much
they would discuss future college courses and suggest which courses to go into once I had graduated. Through their eyes they were prepping us for
harder things that we would only see for ourselves if we're to get into a university and join the college community.

My Teaching Experience Essay
When I first come to Saint Cloud High School, I was uncertain of how I would fit into the world of education as a teacher, in fact, this was my
first teaching practice. After completing a few observations, I changed my view and recognized my teaching abilities. I was able to learn many
different things that will be helpful to me when I become a certified teacher someday. Although I could face many possible challenges in the
classroom, I have many of the strengths it takes to be a good teacher. There were many times during this field training that gave me a broad idea of
how the ordinary life of a teacher would go. Similarly, I got a profound sense of how the classroom environment is for most instructors. In general, I
believe this was a pleasant experience for me, and I learned a lot in such a brief period.
The educational unit I executed has an element of my instruction beliefs that students should connect and relate theme content to real life situations
inside and outside the teaching space. Therefore, during my teaching experience, I feel compromise and responsible for meeting my students' needs and
that is why I included many visuals aids and plenty of flexible activities. Hence, this unit involved a mixture of student and teacher–centered strategies
such as direct instruction, drill and practice of the unit vocabulary, lectures, dialogues, question and answer sessions, discussions with exchanges of
opinions and perspectives, discovery learning events and presentations

Educational Background And Work Experience Essay
1. How has your educational background and work experience enhanced your preparation for your current faculty position?
I have over 16 years' experience as a hospice and palliative care social worker, during which time I provided educational and counseling services to
individuals facing end of life, their primary care giver, families and community supports. I also provided in services to community resources on
subjects such as preparing for end of life and advance care directives, bereavement and how the hospice industry is expanding and changing. I also
served as the supervisor for a staff over 10+ and recruited, trained and supervised over 20 volunteers. Moreover, when I was in Nepal I had the
opportunity to join the biggest University there and teach third year master level social work students in a number of courses. These...show more

What inspired you to be a teacher? Why do you love teaching?
Teaching has always come natural to me, as an untraditional learner myself, I was called to this field as I know firs hand the frustrations and day to
day struggles that make learns want to give up. Fortunately, educational approaches have become more diverse. My goal is to ensure everyone has an
engaging, rewarding experience in learning so they are prepared to be their own best advocates and that of those they serve.
5. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time or describe an interesting fact about yourself?
My favorite past time is traveling, I have been to 48 states and 17 countries. My favorite state is Colorado because I can ski, kayak, mountain climb
or buzz off in nature! My favorite country is a tie between Morocco and Sri Lanka, there aren't really any words to describe these wonderfully
captivating wonders of the world. When not wander lusting I can be found at my home with my two St Bernard's, of course studying as I advance my
own educational endeavors.

My Experience Of My Education
My education was not the best that I could have received. I am originally from Pennsylvania, but my parents and I moved to Florida right around the
time I was to start kindergarten. The public–school education system in Florida is not the greatest compared to other states, especially not the area of
Florida where I have grown up. I attended two different elementary schools, two different middle schools (one private k–12 school and one public
middle school). I was fortunate enough to attend one high school for all four years, and there I completed a very academically rigorous program
known as the International Baccalaureate program, along with some AP classes. This was the best that was offered to me for my learning style, and so
I took advantage of it.
Growing up, I was always ahead of the other students in terms of learning. I was an accelerated reader, and I was reading at a fifth grade level
when I was in the second and third grade. I would always learn the material quicker than the other children, and that would often cause me to wonder
why they were struggling so. I was never given the opportunity to take the test for the gifted program, but in the fifth grade I was placed in a class
with a gifted teacher and gifted students because I had high scores on the FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test) which was the former
standardized state test in Florida. My experience in that class was not good; I failed all the math tests, and the other students were very arrogant.

Educational Experience
What work, activity, or educational experience has best equipped you for work on public policy? Please describe how this experience has impacted
your personal growth and your view of the world.
The world is an ever–changing continuum; therefore, its residents must adapt even more rapidly in order to strive for growth and success. I am no
exception to this golden rule. Although I had a good understanding of the United States and the world prior to this summer, I acquired much experience
and a better perspective on reality due to my internship these past few months.
In the summer of 2016 (to present), I have been privileged enough to become acquainted with and intern for Mrs. Sigrid Frye–Revere, founder of the
American Living Organ Donor Fund and the Center for Ethical Solutions. During this internship, I have been fortunate enough to interact with clients
and access their records as they request for financial assistance for organ transplantations. Since then, I have been conducting research on medical
journals and policies, working with clients...show more content...
That being said, I have come to a deeper realization. My original goals of becoming a doctor can tremendously benefit those in need, but there is more
that I can offer. Acquiring skills by working for a non–profit seeking to help others is insufficient. The realization is a simple one: The best way to
assist others is creating and shaping effective public policymaking. I yearn to combine my passion to help others as a doctor with effective policy in
order to maximize my potential. While a doctor can save 10 patients a day, sound public policy can alter the fate of an entire city, country, or even the
world. This realization has led to a complete transformation of my passion and dreams. This transformation was made possible by the knowledge and
immersion into reality that the Fund and Ms. Frye–Revere have given

My experiences in education throughout my life have greatly influenced me in my decision to go into the education field. I have had many positive
influences in my life that have helped create my desire to help shape young minds. I have seen what a difference teachers can make, and having the
opportunity to be the person who makes that difference is so rewarding. I have also seen some of the challenges that come with the teaching profession.

At DCS, I met several of the teachers that influenced me. One of them was my science teacher, Mrs. McKimmey. She guided me and inspired me in
many ways. I really struggled with science, but she always did whatever she could to help me succeed. She modeled to me what a good teacher looks
like. All the students felt that she was someone to go to for guidance or advice. I saw what an influence teachers could have on students through her
example.
Through DCS, I received an amazing opportunity that really helped lead me to the path of teaching. They offered a program called Student Aid.
During my senior year, I participated in this program. For two hours, every day I was able to go into the kindergarten classroom and assist the
teacher. I got to lead small group activities, read with the children, work with those who were struggling, and really see what goes on behind the
scenes. This experience was one of the biggest influences as far as my decision to become a teacher. I found how rewarding it can be to work with
children and have an influence in their lives. One of the most rewarding feelings was watching the students understand a concept after working on it
with them. While I saw how challenging teaching could be, I also realized how important it is.
Looking at the different kinds of metaphors that could represent teaching, one that I feel relates well is looking at a teacher as a gardener. I think that

Throughout my lifelong educational experience, I have developed a self–awareness and understanding of how best I learn. My preferred learning styles
are a mixture of social learning, logical learning, and hands on experience. I remember the struggles I had during primary school when my instructors
taught predominantly through memorization. It was difficult for me to just simply 'memorize' facts or try to learn something in isolation. I needed the
opportunity to build upon my prior knowledge of a topic, making connections and associations with other information, and occasionally come back
for a refresher on past information. I needed a teacher who not only offered information, but instead was able to encourage linkage of information.
This has shaped my own style of teaching and my emphasis on helping students first form a solid foundation of information and progressively build
upon that base knowledge to achieve a deeper understanding. In this aspect, my beliefs and style align with those of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi.
Pestalozzi believed a man learns by action and emphasized repetition following concrete observation (BruМ€hlmeier et al., 2010). Delivering blanket
information with the expectation of learners to just retain it for the future is ineffective for the majority of students. More often the information has to
be fully understood and relatable to be absorbable. I believe it's important to be aware of each student's unique learning style and what they are capable

The first time as an adult learning or I thought it was adult learning was when I was in my mid–thirties. Here I am again many years later back at it
again. This time is totally different than the prior years. I was a part–time student, married, working and raising our children. My major was Criminal
Justice and I took classes on campus. At that time the adjustment to going back to college didn't seem difficult to me at all. It almost gave me the
feeling of being back in a high school setting. I was able to settle right in even though the majority of my classmates were straight out of high
school. This was so different for many in so many ways, I felt like I had a true purpose for being there. I had set educational goals for myself so that
I may be more productive in my life skills. When I was in high school I warranted to be there but college was my choice, I wanted more fulfilled
educational in my life. I knew that academically enhancing my education was an achievement that I needed to accomplish. I didn't know at that time
that there were different types of adult learners, different strategies, styles, categories or models for adult learners. I was under the assumption that you
went to class, listened to the instructor, complete your assignments before the dead line and get a grade. This is the same method I proceeded in high
school.
McGrath states "the pedagogical theory assumes that the student will simply learn what they have been told" (209, p.

My Reflection On My Educational Experience Essay
Throughout my educational experience, I have endured countless hardships that made progress difficult at times. Although it was a struggle through
my strong dedication to education, I have also earned a list of achievements for my hard work. These experiences from, failing two of my English
classes, to excelling tremendously in mathematics, have molded me into the type of student I am today. I am a student with a growth mindset and, an
optimistic outlook on education and, the bright future ahead. I now understand the impact that a positive mindset can have on your future. I am
definitely proud of the student I have become. I feel like my journey is unique, but is also very relatable. As early as I can remember, I always
excelled in my classes. I felt like at the time I was without a doubt an above average student. I often recall my instructor Mrs. Shek from third–grade
saying, "Wow you are smart Jonathan". Even my fourth–grade instructor Mr. William's would often write comments on my essays like "Good job you
outdid yourself". My self–esteem skyrocketed early on, confident in my ability to excel; I felt I was ready to take on the world. My teacher's
comments had reminded me of a quote from an article I read called, "Brainology" by Carol S. Dweck. Dweck stated "In the 1990's, parents and
schools decided that the most important thing for kids to have was self–esteem." (2) Its said that if we felt good about ourselves, we would be set.
Little was known of the consequences of

When looking back at my education in the past, I would say that I am happy with my overall experience. I do think that there was some areas that were
more challenging than others, but this was a reflection of more than just educational factors. We consider all of the things that happen in our lives and
pile them into different experiences. When thinking about specifically my educational experience, I feel accomplished and thankful for the kind of
education and support I received a while in school. I am grateful to have only attended one school from Kindergarten to 12th grade, with the exception
of having to switch buildings for 9th–12th grade. I am happy to say that the teachers in my past have played a big role in my reasoning for wanting to
become a teacher. I remember sitting in a desk and thinking, "This is what I want to do when I get older" during my 4th grade Math class. I was lucky
to attend a school that was small in quantity, but not quality. I knew all of my teachers, and future teachers from other grades. I felt lucky to go
through school with peers from Grade K–12 and graduate with people I have spent my entire education with. I liked having tutoring resources when
needed and feeling like I could help others in need as well. I felt like my school education was like family to me. I think it is important to be
comfortable with the teachers and classmates in your school setting. It makes learning and overall class atmospheres less overwhelming and anxious in
my opinion. High–stakes tests can have an overpowering feeling during these experiences. It may come easy for some or cause anxiety and
frustration for others. Each student is different. Some are great test taker whereas others find testing taking to be a challenge. I think it all depends on
the kind of learner you are and the kind of test it is. Some people find midterms and finals to be very stressful. In my opinion, these types of exams are
just reviewing what you already learned, in the same class setting you've been taught, most likely. Other high–stakes tests that can be overwhelming
could be something like the PAPAs, Praxis, or even the SAT's. When thinking about my experience during the SAT's, I found it more difficult than
having to

Personal Narrative: My Educational Experience
I began Mrs. Auston's interview with the first background question, tell me about your educational experiences in school. Mrs. Auston responded:
My educational experience started out good. My teachers were caring and they took their time needed to teach you. The experience changed in 3rd
grade because
I was not promoted to 4th grade. My teacher was Ms. McCool, I remember because I felt my world had come to an end due to all of my friends would
now be ahead of me. So after repeating 3rd grade I got it together and I was a good student. 5th grade was new, changing classes was a big deal. Mr.

My oldest, who is a senior this year struggled in many areas. Reading and writing are strong areas for him, where math is his weakest, as you know.
His problem is a lack of confidence and peer pressure. He needs encouragement at all, all times. He has to have reminders. I have to ask what's going
on in each class and write down to help him keep track. I am always communicating with his teachers and counselors.
My middle child is completely different. She had a great start, education was introduced early. So there is a foundation for her to build on. She is
strong in all areas and wants to learn. She wants to be the head of the class, but her attitude and personality can cause problems. She thinks she
knows it all and is never wrong. It is funny when her and my oldest argue. She is broad out of her mind, and because of this she is always in
trouble. My third child is a lot harder. Education was introduced early, but he is not getting it. I think because of two reasons. One being that he was
born early and I think there is a small delay. Second, I had and have to spend so much time making sure the older two are on their game that he
slipped through the cracks. I had lots of extra time with the older children due to there being a large age gap between the first and

Personal Reflection : My Educational Experience
Education
My educational experience is one amazing thing I would never forget. My parents gave me an experience of a lifetime that I would never let go
and continue to expand. It was a gift of a great education I could have tossed away but instead I took advantage of it and it expanded my intellect and
made me more independent. As a young girl my parents always told me, they wanted a great educational experience for me. They said no matter what
it took to get me into good schools, to have a great education they will do it. My parents worked very hard to give me the opportunity to be in private
school my whole life since pre–school. They always told me to work hard, be bright and be bold. The educational level I had being in private school
my whole life was amazing. What was amazing about my education level is that I was able to take all college prep. classes, I took an AP Spanish class,
my teachers were always on top of us to hand in work in time, essays in my English class were based on a college level writing. It was amazing
because my school expanded my mind more on a college based level.
From pre–school till sixth grade I was in private school that was co–ed I switched to four different private schools since I was younger. For pre–school
I went to St.Micheal which was an experience to have been able to encounter. Being able to learn about religion, other languages, and different
cultures. Going in to kindergarten till third grade I went to St. George it was a good

Education Is A Learning Experience Essay
Education is a learning experience which is mastered throughout one's lifetime. It does not only consist of what a person learns in a school, but also
includes the knowledge a person acquires throughout their own life. Hence, it is considered as one of the enlightening experiences in an individual's life.
Education contains characteristics similar to a coin, it can free through opening up new opportunities, encouraging self–esteem, and opening new ways
of critical thinking; But then, it can also limit by standardized education, taking control over students, and by the use of fear and intimidation. The
factors that play a crucial role in these freedoms and limitations are teachers, the internet, and the school curriculum. A teacher can free students by
encouraging self–esteem, but at the same time, they can limit by using fear and intimidation. Also, the internet plays a vital role because it frees
students by opening up new ideas and opportunities, but it also limits by taking complete control over the students. In addition, the curriculum also
plays an imperative part in the education. It can free students by letting them use critical thinking, on the other hand, it can also limit students by
standardized curriculum and providing them with an average education. If one thinks critically, education is a controversial topic which has both good
and bad sides that are worth analyzing. Teachers are one of the most influential figures in a student's life. It is chief

Reflection On Educational Experience
Introduction Throughout my field experience this semester at Oasis Catholico, I was exposed to many different areas of educational psychology and
I was able to see these practices being implemented as well as the results that they produced. Throughout my field experience, however; Piaget's theory
of cognitive development, intrinsic extrinsic motivation, and feedback as well as its contribution to student success took precedence in my weekly
visits and allowed for my reflection on concepts discussed throughout this course and how they pertained to my own experiences. I believe that I was
able to utilize these concepts and thought processes to gain personal insight and professional opinions about these practices and their overall successes
within a real classroom setting. Oasis Catholico Oasis Catholico is a non–profit organization and after school program which aids students in Prek–4th

Educational Experience Reflection Paper
My educational experience begins in a public school located in the Central Valley. All throughout k
–8, I had the same people in all my classes. There
were hardly ever any new students. High school was almost identical. My high school was in a different town but the experience was very similar.
The way I was taught was different from my peers in high school. This is parallel to the idea brought up by Hansen. Hansen talks about how all students
learn different things even if they are taught the same thing. No longer did I have the same students in all my classes. I was given the opportunity to
expand my connections.
The big shift in my educational experience occurred when I came to college. College was by far the farthest place I had been from home. It was a
culture shock. The community was so diverse compared to my community back home. The population back home was predominantly latinx, more
specifically Mexican American. In Berkeley, there were students from all over the state, all over the country, and all over the world. Berkeley had
become my exposure to the rest of the world.
My worldview was slowly shifting. I got involved in different spaces on campus where I noticed the different communities they served. For instance, I
joined the Raices Recruitment and Retention Center where I got to interact with latinx in campus. I had been so used to only interacting with
Mexicans. Now, I had the opportunity to interact with Central Americans. I got to know their struggles, their culture, their traditions, and their
ideology. As professor Murphy mentions it is of importance to have dialogue with folks and listen to their perspectives. Within this dialogue, it becomes
important to recognize differences and learn to find value in them. I noticed similarities in ideology and the differences in traditions. Within those
traditions, I saw the context behind them. I saw the beauty in other cultures.
The next space I joined was Sigma Pi Alpha. In my sorority, I got to relate to other women struggling in this university. I got to talk to my sisters about
their journey to get to cal and the difficulties they've encountered since getting here. One of my sisters was also doing the math major so we talked

Today I had attended my first class of the Summer 2017 semester. I enrolled into the course EDUC 252 for multiple reasons. One reason for taking
this course was that it is a requirement for the Bachelor of General Studies (BGS), an undergraduate degree program at Simon Fraser University
(SFU), and this course fit perfectly into my busy schedule this current semester. Another reason for my enrolment into the course EDUC 252 was
my pursuit of becoming a teacher. I believe this course will help me as a prospective educator with providing me with various opportunities to
develop myself as a reflective practitioner. I have been interested in becoming a teacher for as long as I can remember. Unlike many other children
who often had a list of aspirations when growing up, I was adamant on the fact that I wanted to become a teacher and would always announce
"when I grow up, I want to be a teacher." I believe this is a result of the positive impact that my former teachers had on my educational experiences.
These teachers played a significant role in my life, helping me to build and accomplish my educational goals. Some of these teachers, I still keep in
contact with. For example, over the last few months, I have been shadowing and volunteering in my former Kindergarten and Grade 6 and 7 teachers'
current classrooms.
Prior to attending the class, I was anxious and nervous. Despite this being my third semester at Simon Fraser University (SFU), I still do not know
many people and do not have any friends who are also attending SFU, let alone who are also in the Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) program. I
had recently transferred into SFU from 2 Community College, where I completed my first two years of post secondary education. SFU is a commuter
school for me as I live near the University of British Columbia (UBC), so it has been difficult to get involved in SFU community. I make the
commute to SFU by choice, as I was also accepted into UBC, but choose SFU after hearing about the fantastic program SFU offered for aspiring
educators.
I felt that by beginning the class with the Bingo activity, I was pushed out of my comfort zone and encouraged to introduce myself to others in the
class. At first it was a little nerve

Throughout my educational experience I noticed the discrepancies with regard to the advantages my peers possessed. In high school as I began
exploring what career I wished to pursue, I experienced inferiority as my classmates who've taken the ACT three times, visited college campuses, and

My K 12 Schooling Experience Essay
Every day, students face challenges that shape their learning, growth, and their overall well–being. These trials can either be minimal or turn into
colossal obstacles. However, they can guide students to become better individuals by incorporating their insights and self–realizations for their future
endeavors. Looking back to my K–12 schooling experience made me acknowledge the impact it had in shaping the kind of person I am today. Although
some experiences contributed more than others, I believe they helped me understand myself. For instance, a moment I consider critical in my K–12
schooling that served as a turning point in life, was when I started high school in the United States. I was born and raised in the Philippines, where my
parents provided everything that my sisters and I needed to live a comfortable life. This includes sending us to a prestigious school, paying for
tutors to enhance our academics, and even paying for our extracurricular activities. Furthermore, they supported us in everything that we do, and
unlike most parents in America, my parents showered my sisters and I with all their time and love since both did not have to work for an income. I

migrating to one. I would always hear people say how excited they were to go on a trip out of the country, especially the United States. In fact, Many

Prior Educational Experience

  • 1. Prior Educational Experience Looking back on my prior educational experiences I would say that in a sense they did prepare me for college. By stating that they did get me ready for college I knew that college was not going to be as hard for me as everyone has said it would be. Personally kindergarten and my elementary years did not help pave a path towards college for me but my middle school and most importantly my high school years did with their testing and how much they would discuss future college courses and suggest which courses to go into once I had graduated. Through their eyes they were prepping us for harder things that we would only see for ourselves if we're to get into a university and join the college community. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. My Teaching Experience Essay When I first come to Saint Cloud High School, I was uncertain of how I would fit into the world of education as a teacher, in fact, this was my first teaching practice. After completing a few observations, I changed my view and recognized my teaching abilities. I was able to learn many different things that will be helpful to me when I become a certified teacher someday. Although I could face many possible challenges in the classroom, I have many of the strengths it takes to be a good teacher. There were many times during this field training that gave me a broad idea of how the ordinary life of a teacher would go. Similarly, I got a profound sense of how the classroom environment is for most instructors. In general, I believe this was a pleasant experience for me, and I learned a lot in such a brief period. The educational unit I executed has an element of my instruction beliefs that students should connect and relate theme content to real life situations inside and outside the teaching space. Therefore, during my teaching experience, I feel compromise and responsible for meeting my students' needs and that is why I included many visuals aids and plenty of flexible activities. Hence, this unit involved a mixture of student and teacher–centered strategies such as direct instruction, drill and practice of the unit vocabulary, lectures, dialogues, question and answer sessions, discussions with exchanges of opinions and perspectives, discovery learning events and presentations Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Educational Background And Work Experience Essay 1. How has your educational background and work experience enhanced your preparation for your current faculty position? I have over 16 years' experience as a hospice and palliative care social worker, during which time I provided educational and counseling services to individuals facing end of life, their primary care giver, families and community supports. I also provided in services to community resources on subjects such as preparing for end of life and advance care directives, bereavement and how the hospice industry is expanding and changing. I also served as the supervisor for a staff over 10+ and recruited, trained and supervised over 20 volunteers. Moreover, when I was in Nepal I had the opportunity to join the biggest University there and teach third year master level social work students in a number of courses. These...show more content... What inspired you to be a teacher? Why do you love teaching? Teaching has always come natural to me, as an untraditional learner myself, I was called to this field as I know firs hand the frustrations and day to day struggles that make learns want to give up. Fortunately, educational approaches have become more diverse. My goal is to ensure everyone has an engaging, rewarding experience in learning so they are prepared to be their own best advocates and that of those they serve. 5. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time or describe an interesting fact about yourself? My favorite past time is traveling, I have been to 48 states and 17 countries. My favorite state is Colorado because I can ski, kayak, mountain climb or buzz off in nature! My favorite country is a tie between Morocco and Sri Lanka, there aren't really any words to describe these wonderfully captivating wonders of the world. When not wander lusting I can be found at my home with my two St Bernard's, of course studying as I advance my own educational endeavors. • 5. My Experience Of My Education My education was not the best that I could have received. I am originally from Pennsylvania, but my parents and I moved to Florida right around the time I was to start kindergarten. The public–school education system in Florida is not the greatest compared to other states, especially not the area of Florida where I have grown up. I attended two different elementary schools, two different middle schools (one private k–12 school and one public middle school). I was fortunate enough to attend one high school for all four years, and there I completed a very academically rigorous program known as the International Baccalaureate program, along with some AP classes. This was the best that was offered to me for my learning style, and so I took advantage of it. Growing up, I was always ahead of the other students in terms of learning. I was an accelerated reader, and I was reading at a fifth grade level when I was in the second and third grade. I would always learn the material quicker than the other children, and that would often cause me to wonder why they were struggling so. I was never given the opportunity to take the test for the gifted program, but in the fifth grade I was placed in a class with a gifted teacher and gifted students because I had high scores on the FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test) which was the former standardized state test in Florida. My experience in that class was not good; I failed all the math tests, and the other students were very arrogant. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Educational Experience What work, activity, or educational experience has best equipped you for work on public policy? Please describe how this experience has impacted your personal growth and your view of the world. The world is an ever–changing continuum; therefore, its residents must adapt even more rapidly in order to strive for growth and success. I am no exception to this golden rule. Although I had a good understanding of the United States and the world prior to this summer, I acquired much experience and a better perspective on reality due to my internship these past few months. In the summer of 2016 (to present), I have been privileged enough to become acquainted with and intern for Mrs. Sigrid Frye–Revere, founder of the American Living Organ Donor Fund and the Center for Ethical Solutions. During this internship, I have been fortunate enough to interact with clients and access their records as they request for financial assistance for organ transplantations. Since then, I have been conducting research on medical journals and policies, working with clients...show more content... That being said, I have come to a deeper realization. My original goals of becoming a doctor can tremendously benefit those in need, but there is more that I can offer. Acquiring skills by working for a non–profit seeking to help others is insufficient. The realization is a simple one: The best way to assist others is creating and shaping effective public policymaking. I yearn to combine my passion to help others as a doctor with effective policy in order to maximize my potential. While a doctor can save 10 patients a day, sound public policy can alter the fate of an entire city, country, or even the world. This realization has led to a complete transformation of my passion and dreams. This transformation was made possible by the knowledge and immersion into reality that the Fund and Ms. Frye–Revere have given Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. My experiences in education throughout my life have greatly influenced me in my decision to go into the education field. I have had many positive influences in my life that have helped create my desire to help shape young minds. I have seen what a difference teachers can make, and having the opportunity to be the person who makes that difference is so rewarding. I have also seen some of the challenges that come with the teaching profession. My past, present, and future in education have all affected and will continue to affect me as I progress further along this path. My past experiences in education has greatly shaped my view of the teaching profession. I have had many influential teachers and teacher figures in my life that have...show more content... At DCS, I met several of the teachers that influenced me. One of them was my science teacher, Mrs. McKimmey. She guided me and inspired me in many ways. I really struggled with science, but she always did whatever she could to help me succeed. She modeled to me what a good teacher looks like. All the students felt that she was someone to go to for guidance or advice. I saw what an influence teachers could have on students through her example. Through DCS, I received an amazing opportunity that really helped lead me to the path of teaching. They offered a program called Student Aid. During my senior year, I participated in this program. For two hours, every day I was able to go into the kindergarten classroom and assist the teacher. I got to lead small group activities, read with the children, work with those who were struggling, and really see what goes on behind the scenes. This experience was one of the biggest influences as far as my decision to become a teacher. I found how rewarding it can be to work with children and have an influence in their lives. One of the most rewarding feelings was watching the students understand a concept after working on it with them. While I saw how challenging teaching could be, I also realized how important it is. Looking at the different kinds of metaphors that could represent teaching, one that I feel relates well is looking at a teacher as a gardener. I think that teachers plant Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 9. Throughout my lifelong educational experience, I have developed a self–awareness and understanding of how best I learn. My preferred learning styles are a mixture of social learning, logical learning, and hands on experience. I remember the struggles I had during primary school when my instructors taught predominantly through memorization. It was difficult for me to just simply 'memorize' facts or try to learn something in isolation. I needed the opportunity to build upon my prior knowledge of a topic, making connections and associations with other information, and occasionally come back for a refresher on past information. I needed a teacher who not only offered information, but instead was able to encourage linkage of information. This has shaped my own style of teaching and my emphasis on helping students first form a solid foundation of information and progressively build upon that base knowledge to achieve a deeper understanding. In this aspect, my beliefs and style align with those of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi. Pestalozzi believed a man learns by action and emphasized repetition following concrete observation (BruМ€hlmeier et al., 2010). Delivering blanket information with the expectation of learners to just retain it for the future is ineffective for the majority of students. More often the information has to be fully understood and relatable to be absorbable. I believe it's important to be aware of each student's unique learning style and what they are capable of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. The first time as an adult learning or I thought it was adult learning was when I was in my mid–thirties. Here I am again many years later back at it again. This time is totally different than the prior years. I was a part–time student, married, working and raising our children. My major was Criminal Justice and I took classes on campus. At that time the adjustment to going back to college didn't seem difficult to me at all. It almost gave me the feeling of being back in a high school setting. I was able to settle right in even though the majority of my classmates were straight out of high school. This was so different for many in so many ways, I felt like I had a true purpose for being there. I had set educational goals for myself so that I may be more productive in my life skills. When I was in high school I warranted to be there but college was my choice, I wanted more fulfilled educational in my life. I knew that academically enhancing my education was an achievement that I needed to accomplish. I didn't know at that time that there were different types of adult learners, different strategies, styles, categories or models for adult learners. I was under the assumption that you went to class, listened to the instructor, complete your assignments before the dead line and get a grade. This is the same method I proceeded in high school. McGrath states "the pedagogical theory assumes that the student will simply learn what they have been told" (209, p. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. My Reflection On My Educational Experience Essay Throughout my educational experience, I have endured countless hardships that made progress difficult at times. Although it was a struggle through my strong dedication to education, I have also earned a list of achievements for my hard work. These experiences from, failing two of my English classes, to excelling tremendously in mathematics, have molded me into the type of student I am today. I am a student with a growth mindset and, an optimistic outlook on education and, the bright future ahead. I now understand the impact that a positive mindset can have on your future. I am definitely proud of the student I have become. I feel like my journey is unique, but is also very relatable. As early as I can remember, I always excelled in my classes. I felt like at the time I was without a doubt an above average student. I often recall my instructor Mrs. Shek from third–grade saying, "Wow you are smart Jonathan". Even my fourth–grade instructor Mr. William's would often write comments on my essays like "Good job you outdid yourself". My self–esteem skyrocketed early on, confident in my ability to excel; I felt I was ready to take on the world. My teacher's comments had reminded me of a quote from an article I read called, "Brainology" by Carol S. Dweck. Dweck stated "In the 1990's, parents and schools decided that the most important thing for kids to have was self–esteem." (2) Its said that if we felt good about ourselves, we would be set. • 12. When looking back at my education in the past, I would say that I am happy with my overall experience. I do think that there was some areas that were more challenging than others, but this was a reflection of more than just educational factors. We consider all of the things that happen in our lives and pile them into different experiences. When thinking about specifically my educational experience, I feel accomplished and thankful for the kind of education and support I received a while in school. I am grateful to have only attended one school from Kindergarten to 12th grade, with the exception of having to switch buildings for 9th–12th grade. I am happy to say that the teachers in my past have played a big role in my reasoning for wanting to become a teacher. I remember sitting in a desk and thinking, "This is what I want to do when I get older" during my 4th grade Math class. I was lucky to attend a school that was small in quantity, but not quality. I knew all of my teachers, and future teachers from other grades. I felt lucky to go through school with peers from Grade K–12 and graduate with people I have spent my entire education with. I liked having tutoring resources when needed and feeling like I could help others in need as well. I felt like my school education was like family to me. I think it is important to be comfortable with the teachers and classmates in your school setting. It makes learning and overall class atmospheres less overwhelming and anxious in my opinion. High–stakes tests can have an overpowering feeling during these experiences. It may come easy for some or cause anxiety and frustration for others. Each student is different. Some are great test taker whereas others find testing taking to be a challenge. I think it all depends on the kind of learner you are and the kind of test it is. Some people find midterms and finals to be very stressful. In my opinion, these types of exams are just reviewing what you already learned, in the same class setting you've been taught, most likely. Other high–stakes tests that can be overwhelming could be something like the PAPAs, Praxis, or even the SAT's. Mrs. Auston responded: My educational experience started out good. My teachers were caring and they took their time needed to teach you. The experience changed in 3rd grade because I was not promoted to 4th grade. My teacher was Ms. McCool, I remember because I felt my world had come to an end due to all of my friends would now be ahead of me. So after repeating 3rd grade I got it together and I was a good student. 5th grade was new, changing classes was a big deal. Mr. Davis was my homeroom teacher and when I think about it he didn't, I mean he really didn't teach us. I truly believe he kept liquor in his desk...show more content... My oldest, who is a senior this year struggled in many areas. Reading and writing are strong areas for him, where math is his weakest, as you know. His problem is a lack of confidence and peer pressure. He needs encouragement at all, all times. He has to have reminders. I have to ask what's going on in each class and write down to help him keep track. I am always communicating with his teachers and counselors. My middle child is completely different. She had a great start, education was introduced early. So there is a foundation for her to build on. She is strong in all areas and wants to learn. She wants to be the head of the class, but her attitude and personality can cause problems. She thinks she knows it all and is never wrong. It is funny when her and my oldest argue. She is broad out of her mind, and because of this she is always in trouble. My third child is a lot harder. Education was introduced early, but he is not getting it. I think because of two reasons. One being that he was born early and I think there is a small delay. Second, I had and have to spend so much time making sure the older two are on their game that he slipped through the cracks. I had lots of extra time with the older children due to there being a large age gap between the first and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Personal Reflection : My Educational Experience Education My educational experience is one amazing thing I would never forget. My parents gave me an experience of a lifetime that I would never let go and continue to expand. It was a gift of a great education I could have tossed away but instead I took advantage of it and it expanded my intellect and made me more independent. As a young girl my parents always told me, they wanted a great educational experience for me. They said no matter what it took to get me into good schools, to have a great education they will do it. My parents worked very hard to give me the opportunity to be in private school my whole life since pre–school. They always told me to work hard, be bright and be bold. The educational level I had being in private school my whole life was amazing. What was amazing about my education level is that I was able to take all college prep. classes, I took an AP Spanish class, my teachers were always on top of us to hand in work in time, essays in my English class were based on a college level writing. It was amazing because my school expanded my mind more on a college based level. From pre–school till sixth grade I was in private school that was co–ed I switched to four different private schools since I was younger. For pre–school I went to St.Micheal which was an experience to have been able to encounter. Being able to learn about religion, other languages, and different cultures. • 15. Education Is A Learning Experience Essay Education is a learning experience which is mastered throughout one's lifetime. It does not only consist of what a person learns in a school, but also includes the knowledge a person acquires throughout their own life. Hence, it is considered as one of the enlightening experiences in an individual's life. Education contains characteristics similar to a coin, it can free through opening up new opportunities, encouraging self–esteem, and opening new ways of critical thinking; But then, it can also limit by standardized education, taking control over students, and by the use of fear and intimidation. The factors that play a crucial role in these freedoms and limitations are teachers, the internet, and the school curriculum. A teacher can free students by encouraging self–esteem, but at the same time, they can limit by using fear and intimidation. Also, the internet plays a vital role because it frees students by opening up new ideas and opportunities, but it also limits by taking complete control over the students. In addition, the curriculum also plays an imperative part in the education. It can free students by letting them use critical thinking, on the other hand, it can also limit students by standardized curriculum and providing them with an average education. If one thinks critically, education is a controversial topic which has both good and bad sides that are worth analyzing. Teachers are one of the most influential figures in a student's life. • 16. Reflection On Educational Experience Introduction Throughout my field experience this semester at Oasis Catholico, I was exposed to many different areas of educational psychology and I was able to see these practices being implemented as well as the results that they produced. Throughout my field experience, however; Piaget's theory of cognitive development, intrinsic extrinsic motivation, and feedback as well as its contribution to student success took precedence in my weekly visits and allowed for my reflection on concepts discussed throughout this course and how they pertained to my own experiences. I believe that I was able to utilize these concepts and thought processes to gain personal insight and professional opinions about these practices and their overall successes within a real classroom setting. Oasis Catholico Oasis Catholico is a non–profit organization and after school program which aids students in Prek–4th grade that live in the Pine Woods Estates Trailer Par in Athens, Georgia. • 17. Educational Experience Reflection Paper My educational experience begins in a public school located in the Central Valley. All throughout k –8, I had the same people in all my classes. There were hardly ever any new students. High school was almost identical. My high school was in a different town but the experience was very similar. The way I was taught was different from my peers in high school. This is parallel to the idea brought up by Hansen. Hansen talks about how all students learn different things even if they are taught the same thing. No longer did I have the same students in all my classes. I was given the opportunity to expand my connections. The big shift in my educational experience occurred when I came to college. College was by far the farthest place I had been from home. It was a culture shock. The community was so diverse compared to my community back home. The population back home was predominantly latinx, more specifically Mexican American. In Berkeley, there were students from all over the state, all over the country, and all over the world. Berkeley had become my exposure to the rest of the world. My worldview was slowly shifting. I got involved in different spaces on campus where I noticed the different communities they served. For instance, I joined the Raices Recruitment and Retention Center where I got to interact with latinx in campus. I had been so used to only interacting with Mexicans. Now, I had the opportunity to interact with Central Americans. I got to know their struggles, their culture, their traditions, and their ideology. As professor Murphy mentions it is of importance to have dialogue with folks and listen to their perspectives. Within this dialogue, it becomes important to recognize differences and learn to find value in them. I noticed similarities in ideology and the differences in traditions. Within those traditions, I saw the context behind them. I saw the beauty in other cultures. The next space I joined was Sigma Pi Alpha. In my sorority, I got to relate to other women struggling in this university. I got to talk to my sisters about their journey to get to cal and the difficulties they've encountered since getting here. One of my sisters was also doing the math major so we talked about our Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Today I had attended my first class of the Summer 2017 semester. I enrolled into the course EDUC 252 for multiple reasons. One reason for taking this course was that it is a requirement for the Bachelor of General Studies (BGS), an undergraduate degree program at Simon Fraser University (SFU), and this course fit perfectly into my busy schedule this current semester. Another reason for my enrolment into the course EDUC 252 was my pursuit of becoming a teacher. I believe this course will help me as a prospective educator with providing me with various opportunities to develop myself as a reflective practitioner. I have been interested in becoming a teacher for as long as I can remember. Unlike many other children who often had a list of aspirations when growing up, I was adamant on the fact that I wanted to become a teacher and would always announce "when I grow up, I want to be a teacher." I believe this is a result of the positive impact that my former teachers had on my educational experiences. These teachers played a significant role in my life, helping me to build and accomplish my educational goals. Some of these teachers, I still keep in contact with. For example, over the last few months, I have been shadowing and volunteering in my former Kindergarten and Grade 6 and 7 teachers' current classrooms. Prior to attending the class, I was anxious and nervous. Despite this being my third semester at Simon Fraser University (SFU), I still do not know many people and do not have any friends who are also attending SFU, let alone who are also in the Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) program. I had recently transferred into SFU from 2 Community College, where I completed my first two years of post secondary education. SFU is a commuter school for me as I live near the University of British Columbia (UBC), so it has been difficult to get involved in SFU community. I make the commute to SFU by choice, as I was also accepted into UBC, but choose SFU after hearing about the fantastic program SFU offered for aspiring educators. I felt that by beginning the class with the Bingo activity, I was pushed out of my comfort zone and encouraged to introduce myself to others in the class. At first it was a little nerve Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Personal Narrative: My Educational Experience Throughout my educational experience I noticed the discrepancies with regard to the advantages my peers possessed. In high school as I began exploring what career I wished to pursue, I experienced inferiority as my classmates who've taken the ACT three times, visited college campuses, and have had resumes ready since the 6th grade unintentionally mocked my lack of college–readiness. However, my ignorance wasn't intentional, my parents never reached a high school education in Mexico, they couldn't pass down SAT tips or acquire internship opportunities for me. I realized it's vital to pick up the pace to avoid being left in the dust akin to countless others in my situation. Henceforth, this statement resonates with my experience, I interpreted...show more content... No, not at all! It empowers me to work twice as diligently as everyone else, I'm motivated by the competition in front of me as hard work will be rewarded with success. Life is set up in order for the successful families to remain prominent while the disadvantaged face tremendous barriers to climb the ladder of success. Facing reality, I've constantly pushed myself in high school to even the playing field with my privileged peers. I've followed their path by taking the AP classes my school offers, participating in clubs, and spending my free time volunteering. However, as much as I've followed them it could not put me ahead of them, for that reason it's essential for me to push myself the farthest than my peers. In doing so, I took up an internship, dedicated an entire summer to a middle school volunteering program, and challenging myself with the most AP/honors classes out of my class. Dedication truly pays off seeing now I will be the valedictorian of my graduating class. Who would've guessed, the student, whose parents dropped out of school to work in their family farms, is the utmost excelled in his class. Yet, I'm not stopping my advancement in high school, I will proceed to challenge myself throughout college, knowing that it's crucial to future Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. My K 12 Schooling Experience Essay Every day, students face challenges that shape their learning, growth, and their overall well–being. These trials can either be minimal or turn into colossal obstacles. However, they can guide students to become better individuals by incorporating their insights and self–realizations for their future endeavors. Looking back to my K–12 schooling experience made me acknowledge the impact it had in shaping the kind of person I am today. Although some experiences contributed more than others, I believe they helped me understand myself. For instance, a moment I consider critical in my K–12 schooling that served as a turning point in life, was when I started high school in the United States. I was born and raised in the Philippines, where my parents provided everything that my sisters and I needed to live a comfortable life. This includes sending us to a prestigious school, paying for tutors to enhance our academics, and even paying for our extracurricular activities. Furthermore, they supported us in everything that we do, and unlike most parents in America, my parents showered my sisters and I with all their time and love since both did not have to work for an income. I can honestly say that I lived a nurtured and privileged lifestyle. Growing up, I had never imagined myself visiting a different country, let alone migrating to one. I would always hear people say how excited they were to go on a trip out of the country, especially the United States. In fact, Many Filipinos Get more content on HelpWriting.net
