Impact Of Immigration On The United States Essay
Introduction
As our economy continues to grow, as does the world that we live in. With this more and more people are continuing to travel and immigrate across
borders. With over 175 million people accounting for 3% of the world's population (Kerr, Kerr 2011) living permanently overseas, the landscape of
global business and economics is continuing to grow. This shift in demographic can leads to many changes and adjustments for countries, some of
which can reap benefits others may cause financial harm. Major impacts of immigration can be observed in several forms of a countries economic
system such as employment opportunities for both immigrated workers as well as current citizens along with unemployment rates, wages, profit
margins, the ability of local and international business' to grow and the overall GDP of the specific country. For this paper specifically the developed
country that will be analysed will be Australia. Considered to be one of the worlds "major immigration nations" (together with New Zealand, Canada
and the United States of America) (Phillips, Simon–Davies 2016) Australia is fast becoming a go–to country for those looking for a fresh start.
Entering through either the "Migration Program" or "Humanitarian Program" depending on the specific level of expertise Australia is quick to start the
process of entering these immigrants to the workforce. With a high percentage of Australians that have been born overseas (7.2 million) Australia needs

Essay About Immigration
Growing up, the topic of immigration has always sat heavy on both my heart and mind. I am a child of a deportee; I have lost time, support, and a
male figure in my life due to the growing social concern that is immigration. In 2018, as racial tensions are at an all time high and many of our
political offices do not favor the idea of immigration I believe it is the work of members of the Hispanic communities in America to fight for our people
and their freedom in the United States. I believe there are many ways of which I, as a member of a Hispanic community and a proud Hispanic, can and
will bring change to help solve the topic of immigration in the U.S.
One of the ways I believe I can make an impact on this social concern is informing people, both Hispanic and non–Hispanic, of the problems my people
face and encouraging people to vote in elections to support government officials who care and will push for change regarding topics of immigration. I
believe this is an effective tactic to if not solve immigration completely then make a monumental impact on this social concern....show more content...
This idea of investing in the youth is a tactic that I clearly share with the 'Alcanzando Un SueГ±o Cruz & Associates Scholarship Program' because
pushing Hispanics to achieve a higher education is something that I believe will bring forward change for all Hispanics and eventually will solve
the problems we see in immigration policies. This will bring change by opening up job opportunities for Hispanics, raising the annual income of
Hispanic families, and bringing more Hispanics toward the idea of acquiring a post high school degree. Of course, this solution will take time but as
the old saying goes "Rome was not built in a day", meaning that greatness derives from patience and endless hours of

Immigration in the United States
Among the presidential candidates for the year 2016, Republican representative Donald Trump seems to have the most ridiculous and controversial
campaign ideas. One of his more known campaign ideas has to do with banning Muslims from the United States. He generalized that all Muslims
currently, or plan to act as, terrorists who will launch attacks on US soil. Building a wall on the border between US and Mexico is another well
known idea of his, especially because he wants Mexico has to pay the cost for the wall's construction. Even though politicians may paint immigration in
a negative light, the United States relies on immigrants to help its economy, so it should not opt to throw them out of the country.

According to several studies, there is no correlation present between the immigrants and the cities they live in. One graph shows the most dangerous
cities in the United States based on violent crimes committed per 100,000 residents. It says that Detroit, Michigan is the most violent city with 2,123
violent crimes per 100,000 residents and St.Louis, Missouri in third place with 1,777 violent crimes per 100,000 residents ("The 10 Most Dangerous
U.S. Cities"). Another table shows the list and percentages of the metropolitans with the highest amount of foreign borns in their population. Miami has
the largest share of immigrants at 38.5% and San Jose is a close runner up with 36.8% foreign born residents. (Florida). Comparing the two data, the
cities from the dangerous city graph were absent in the high foreign born table. In fact, another table, which showed the metropolitans with the least
foreign born born populations, included the names of four cities from the violent crime graph e.g. St.Louis, Missouri and Memphis, Tennessee. With
the clear absence of the dangerous city names, no relationship is shown between crime rates and immigrants. Not only that, but these foreigners do not
have much incentive to commit crimes. A study shows that "first–generation immigrants [are] 45 percent less likely to commit violence than
third–generation Americans"

Illegal immigration in the US is and has been an ongoing battle for many years. According to legal–dictionary an illegal immigrant is define as an alien
(non–citizen) who has entered the united sates without government permission or stayed beyond the termination date of a visa. There are many
problems that occur such as overpopulation, raising crime rates and unemployment. Some Americans have issues with illegal immigration and some do
not. Those with the issues are concerned about illegal immigrants taking Americans jobs and not paying taxes. Those without the issue are mostly
business owners who hire them because most immigrants will work for a low wage and owners also do not have to claim them on their taxes.
Therefore the American...show more content...
If businesses are fined or have some other disciplinary actions taken against them for hiring illegal immigrants, this would force them to stop. If they
are more careful with whom they hire, illegal immigrants would not have a place of employment, therefore decreasing the number of illegal
immigrants who come to America looking for jobs.
America is considered to be "the land of Opportunity". From jobs, to healthcare, America has a lot to offer, which is why so many people want to
live here. The issue with this is the US only allows a certain number of immigrants per year to become citizens. The majorities of immigrants who
want to come to America know this and feel they might not be accepted in the small number that is allowed so they enter the country illegally.
According to an article found in the New York Times, in 2008, there was an estimated 11.9 million illegal immigrants in America and since then the
number has grown. Another solution to the illegal immigrant issue is to raise the number of visas given to immigrants per year. In another passage
taken from the article by Jeff Jacoby, he states, "But because US law authorizes only 5000 visas annually for the low skilled immigrants, there is no
lawful way for most of the workers we need to enter the country." By giving such a low number of visas to immigrants each year, it causes other
immigrants to want to enter the country illegally, in an act of desperation. By raising the number of visas given, it can

The United States is a country that was built on immigration. The first settlers, Native Americans, represent less than 2% of the total population; the
remaining 98% of the population are immigrants or decedents of immigrants. Today, the US still has the highest immigration rate in the world with
757,434 naturalizations in the 2012 fiscal year only (US Naturalizations 2012, Department of Homeland security). People try to immigrate to the
United States for many reasons. Some people immigrate because they have been granted a refugee status or asylum and other people immigrate to
fulfill their dreams. Immigration has an effect on the American society and economy. The US cannot survive without immigrants.

Furthermore, once in the US, most immigrants (due to lack of work authorization ) cannot provide for their needs. They make less than minimum
wage so can only live in shady neighborhoods where insecurity rates are high. In order to survive, many immigrants do criminal acts like prostitution,
theft, drug dealing, etc. And that generally increases the rate of insecurity in the nation. From an economic aspect, immigration is somewhat beneficial
since it increases the US work force and it's economy. According to Camarota Steven on his testimony'' Immigration and the US economy'',
immigration overall increases the economy of the US due to the fact that more workers and more people mean bigger GDP. He also pointed out that
the impact of immigration of the seize of the economy is not a measure of the benefits of natives. That means that regardless of the benefits of natives,
Immigration is a tool to increase the economy of the US. On the other hand, it can be detrimental to the US economy. In fact most of the immigrants
work "under the table" which make the fiscal

topic in the US in recent years with its primary focus being illegal immigrants. Illegal immigration is when people enter a country without government

America has been a point for immigration since the beginning of time. Although very similar, immigration from the 1900's to now is drastically
different because there were and still are many opportunities to immigrate. From 1900 to about 1996, immigrating to America was relatively easy.
From 1996 to today's time, immigrating into America is much more difficult. Due to the long process of becoming legal, many more immigrants
choose to stay illegal.
Beginning in the early 1900's, immigration proved to be quite difficult in the time being, however, today's immigration system proves to be much
more difficult. In the 1900's there were means to come into America such as Ellis Island on the east coast and Angel Island on the west coast. There
may have been difficult obstacles to become a legal United States citizen. Such obstacles include paying for a green card or getting a job or paying
for housing. These obstacles which also exist in today's world are much more difficult to access. There was no such thing as a green card until the
1920's, which even then only cost a mere nickel. Without the need to worry for paying for and maintain a green card or work visa, which can cost
anywhere from one hundred dollars to five hundred now, it was much easier for people to immigrate into America. In the early 1900's, the Mexican
Revolution took place, "'The resulting chaos drove thousands of Mexicans north. Beyond physical proximity, the United States offered jobs – in
industry, in mines, on

Immigration in USA Essay
The United States of America is the best place for immigration. The history proved that the United States was the dream land, the place of chances.
That started when Europeans escaped form their countries because there were no jobs and no safe places to live. America became the best choice for
people who were looking for political asylum, jobs, or freedom, but after a few generations something changed the Americans look to immigrants as
strangers and they forgot where they are from because America is multicultural place andimmigration movement should be understandable, but this is
not the case. Governments should develop good laws for immigrants by giving rights to immigrants to stay in America, to protect them, and to allow

At first the government supported open immigration in the open and settled land, but after the Civil War while, states began to pass their own
immigration regulations and immigrating become more difficult. The Supreme Court decided immigration would be under federal jurisdiction in
1875, and Congress created the Department of Immigration in 1891. Since 1900 to 1921, Congress created the "quota system," which gave
authorization for a specified number of individuals of all ethnic groups in immigration like most Asian nations (Wellman, Cole). The government has
also put provisions designed to encourage migration of certain kinds of workers who have lost the skills from the current population. In 1924, as the
fears of the immigrants fleeing from border increased, Congress set up the first Office of border control to watch the immigrants from Canada and
Mexico. Immigration numbers decreased significantly around 1925 and 1945 In 1948, Congress made a temporary revision to the immigration
policy to allow people displaced by World War II to be in America. in 1952, Congress made the McCarran
–Walter Immigration and Nationality law,
which officially canceled any remaining limitations on the grounds of race, and immigration to people of any nation. The McCarran– Walter
immigration and nationality law improved political growth (Schrag). Therefore, in 1965, Congress abandoned the quota system and the acceptance of

Immigration Argumentative Essay
Immigration has been a burning issue lately, particularly after Donald Trump's immigration ban in the United States of America. It has been a topic that
families discuss every morning with breakfast. Despite many concerns related to immigration, it has several positive benefits that mostly outweighs the
negativity. People bizarrely argue when it comes to immigration, but these arguments are primarily based on facts and ideas that are outdated or
inconsistent and blindfold the positive aspect related to immigration. Many immigrants in the United States are good workers who don't depend upon
any public welfare and mostly help in the overall development of the economy. As a country made by immigrants, we must not forget the fact that
immigrants have helped to build cities and create a path of development form Google to iPhones (Gray & Furman, 2012). These facts are secluded, and
some related arguments with different content have been repeated for years and continue. Immigrants have a lot to give the United States rather than to
take, especially when it comes to economic terms.
Immigration has been an essential but disruptive aspect of the people and the political state of the United States; however, debates related to
immigration and its benefits are intensified significantly. Opposing immigration keeps ranting on how government should exercise better law to
control over the people entering into the States from the foreign land. One of the most buzzed argument is that American citizen is unemployed
because immigrants stole their jobs and disrupted the economy (Hoban, 2017). Also, an appeal to National security and vulnerability after several
terrorist attacks all over the world and also to the government to keep track and maintain the no. of immigrants to create a safer environment (Cafaro,
2009). However, the contrary to these arguments have often been proven right. The pattern of the immigration shows that the contribution of the
immigrants has resulted in an economic boost that cannot be overlooked by the government.
Most of the immigrants leave their home country and migrate to the United States because they can live in freedom, practice their religion and make
the most out of their life (Arizaga 2006).

The Experience of Immigrants in the United States

The United States has been a host to a wide diaspora of people. Immigrants have had to transition from their familiar land to a new–fashioned foreign
land that they must consider home. They bring with them the essence of their initial homeland such as customs, traditions and beliefs that
inadvertently change the dynamics of culture within the United States. As a result the United States is an extremely culturally diverse nation. The
continual changes or accretions that Americans encounter have always been a controversial topic depending on the experiences of individuals and
communities that have immigrant populations. This essay will critically explore...show more content...
Language barriers make it difficult for immigrants to establish relationships outside there own communities and it is often easier for them to build their
stores and neighborhoods. Cultural community stores or working for minimum or less than minimum wages are not uncommon within immigrant
communities. Hmong community had established their own cultural community as a support system and/or familiar setting.
Another significant issue would be that many times cultural lines become blurred because of the different life styles. Cultural roles continue to be
ever present but the roles of women and men in the work place are not as rigid because the economic stability becomes more significant than the male
breadwinner role. Instances such as this were the male/female roles are diverged become significant because the dynamics of the essential cultural
beliefs begin to mold according to necessity and environment. Within American society it is more customary to see women in a work environment than
in Laos were traditional male hierarchy is present. In addition the cost of living in America is considerably higher so it's more practical for both parties
to contribute. Concerns and ambiguities arise after set norms begin transitioning toward assimilation. This becomes more evident with children as they

The U.S.– Mexico Bracero program was originated in Stockton, Ca., on August 4, 1942. The immigrant workers also faced harsh conditions, most of
the work that was left for the immigrants was work that no one else was willing to do. Summarized best, "During the United States– Mexico Bracero
Program, 1942–1964, U.S. agribusiness employed a coercive factory regime, introduced mechanization and increased work hazards, and employed a
dual wage structure to keep Mexican contract workers at a serious disadvantage to advance their own collective well–being"(Mize). Although the
immigrant workers faced harsh working conditions, the Bracero program stimulated economic growth in the western farming industry, and was deemed
a success for the American agriculture business.
The Mexican–American border did not close after the closure of the Bracero program in 1964. Undocumented immigration was still a useful tool for the
agricultural business. Until a speech by President Ronald Reagan in 1985, when Regan claimed that the United States had "lost control" of the
immigration of Mexican workers into the United States. With these words president Reagan turned, "...undocumented immigration from a useful
political issue(which it had always been) into a more fundamental question of national security"(Durand). Mexican immigration, once considered a

Immigrants And The United States Essay
Immigrants have been migrating to the Unites States for years. Many people in the United States have different opinions on immigrants: some are
negative and some are positive. Some Americans assume that immigrants are here to destroy the United States, but immigrants are here for many
purposes: to support their families, succeed in their future, or to escape violence occurring in their home countries. Many Americans think that once an
immigrant has settled in the United States that he or she will right away get a job or quickly learn English. Imagine moving to a new school not knowing
a single person. You will feel anxious or even discouraged. Now just imagine arriving in a new country and not knowing anyone and you can't speak
English. Well, that is how millions of young and adult undocumented immigrants feel every day when trying to fit into the American culture. Life is
hard for an undocumented immigrant. Immigrants in the United States face many challenges when trying to adapt or assimilate into the American
culture. But my question is, what kind of mental health issues or other psychological problems do immigrants face when they are trying to adjust to
the American culture, and how can our society alleviate some of that anxiety?
When an undocumented immigrant settles in the United States, often their families who have remained in their own home country believe that living
in the United States is easy. Some people think that when a family member move to the United

IMMIGRATION IN THE UNITED STATES
As a flourishing country, the United States of America has been a recurring land of hope and prosperity for immigrants. These foreigners may have
been looking for religious freedom, job opportunities, escape from economic and environmental problems, shelter from war, or simply a fresh start at
life. With immigration becoming larger and larger as every years passes, with it comes reasons for more legislation and new trends that are contributed
by the different array of people who come together in the crucible that is the United States. The nationality or ethnicity of the immigrants vary from the
Germans, Irish, Mexicans, Japanese, Chinese and Vietnamese. While there are many cases of immigrants to the United States, they are not always

Essay About Immigration To America
Immigration is when someone moves from their home country to live permanently in another country. A huge reason why someone would immigrate
into the United States is to get away from religious problems, get away from wars, and to get a better job. Some immigrants have a difficult life after
arriving because most immigrants can not speak English nor understand it. The use of the documents that were provided to us was to show the amount
of immigrants who came to America and to show reasons why they came to America. Even though it was hard for the immigrants when immigrating
into the United States I still think that it is worth it.
Although some people may think immigration is not worth it however there are positive things to why someone might immigrate to America such as:
getting a better job, getting away from religious persecution, and to get a better life. According to Document #2 "The New Immigrants" it states that

Immigration And The United States
Immigration in the United States continues to increase rapidly year by year. According to an analysis of monthly Census Bureau data by the Center
for Immigration Studies, the immigration population in the United States, both legal and illegal, hit a record of 42.1 million in the second quarter of
this year, an increase of 1.7 million since the same quarter of 2014 (CIS.org). Clearly, Immigrants make up a large part of the population in the United
States, and for most immigrants, migrating to the United States contains one main purpose: to pursue a better life with more opportunities, a purpose
also known as "the American Dream". The concept of immigration is embodied with different viewpoints that can be based on facts or subjective
reasoning, but overall, the viewpoints on immigration are narrowed down to two general perspectives. For some Americans, Immigration, especially
illegal immigration, impacts the United States in a negative way. People with this perspective argue that immigration has a negative impact on the
country's security, economy, education, and public health. On the other hand, supporters of the presence of immigrants in the country suggest that
immigrants contribute to the well–being and development of the country. Supporters of immigration argue that immigrants help boost the economy of
the United States rather than hurting it, and believe that the moral thing to do is to give people the opportunity to better themselves in a country filled

Impact Of Immigration On The United States Essay

  • 1. Impact Of Immigration On The United States Essay Introduction As our economy continues to grow, as does the world that we live in. With this more and more people are continuing to travel and immigrate across borders. With over 175 million people accounting for 3% of the world's population (Kerr, Kerr 2011) living permanently overseas, the landscape of global business and economics is continuing to grow. This shift in demographic can leads to many changes and adjustments for countries, some of which can reap benefits others may cause financial harm. Major impacts of immigration can be observed in several forms of a countries economic system such as employment opportunities for both immigrated workers as well as current citizens along with unemployment rates, wages, profit margins, the ability of local and international business' to grow and the overall GDP of the specific country. For this paper specifically the developed country that will be analysed will be Australia. Considered to be one of the worlds "major immigration nations" (together with New Zealand, Canada and the United States of America) (Phillips, Simon–Davies 2016) Australia is fast becoming a go–to country for those looking for a fresh start. Entering through either the "Migration Program" or "Humanitarian Program" depending on the specific level of expertise Australia is quick to start the process of entering these immigrants to the workforce. With a high percentage of Australians that have been born overseas (7.2 million) Australia needs to prepare and plan Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Essay About Immigration Growing up, the topic of immigration has always sat heavy on both my heart and mind. I am a child of a deportee; I have lost time, support, and a male figure in my life due to the growing social concern that is immigration. In 2018, as racial tensions are at an all time high and many of our political offices do not favor the idea of immigration I believe it is the work of members of the Hispanic communities in America to fight for our people and their freedom in the United States. I believe there are many ways of which I, as a member of a Hispanic community and a proud Hispanic, can and will bring change to help solve the topic of immigration in the U.S. One of the ways I believe I can make an impact on this social concern is informing people, both Hispanic and non–Hispanic, of the problems my people face and encouraging people to vote in elections to support government officials who care and will push for change regarding topics of immigration. I believe this is an effective tactic to if not solve immigration completely then make a monumental impact on this social concern....show more content... This idea of investing in the youth is a tactic that I clearly share with the 'Alcanzando Un SueГ±o Cruz & Associates Scholarship Program' because pushing Hispanics to achieve a higher education is something that I believe will bring forward change for all Hispanics and eventually will solve the problems we see in immigration policies. This will bring change by opening up job opportunities for Hispanics, raising the annual income of Hispanic families, and bringing more Hispanics toward the idea of acquiring a post high school degree. Of course, this solution will take time but as the old saying goes "Rome was not built in a day", meaning that greatness derives from patience and endless hours of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Immigration in the United States Among the presidential candidates for the year 2016, Republican representative Donald Trump seems to have the most ridiculous and controversial campaign ideas. One of his more known campaign ideas has to do with banning Muslims from the United States. He generalized that all Muslims currently, or plan to act as, terrorists who will launch attacks on US soil. Building a wall on the border between US and Mexico is another well known idea of his, especially because he wants Mexico has to pay the cost for the wall's construction. Even though politicians may paint immigration in a negative light, the United States relies on immigrants to help its economy, so it should not opt to throw them out of the country. The...show more content... According to several studies, there is no correlation present between the immigrants and the cities they live in. One graph shows the most dangerous cities in the United States based on violent crimes committed per 100,000 residents. It says that Detroit, Michigan is the most violent city with 2,123 violent crimes per 100,000 residents and St.Louis, Missouri in third place with 1,777 violent crimes per 100,000 residents ("The 10 Most Dangerous U.S. Cities"). Another table shows the list and percentages of the metropolitans with the highest amount of foreign borns in their population. Miami has the largest share of immigrants at 38.5% and San Jose is a close runner up with 36.8% foreign born residents. (Florida). Comparing the two data, the cities from the dangerous city graph were absent in the high foreign born table. In fact, another table, which showed the metropolitans with the least foreign born born populations, included the names of four cities from the violent crime graph e.g. St.Louis, Missouri and Memphis, Tennessee. With the clear absence of the dangerous city names, no relationship is shown between crime rates and immigrants. Not only that, but these foreigners do not have much incentive to commit crimes. A study shows that "first–generation immigrants [are] 45 percent less likely to commit violence than third–generation Americans" Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Illegal immigration in the US is and has been an ongoing battle for many years. According to legal–dictionary an illegal immigrant is define as an alien (non–citizen) who has entered the united sates without government permission or stayed beyond the termination date of a visa. There are many problems that occur such as overpopulation, raising crime rates and unemployment. Some Americans have issues with illegal immigration and some do not. Those with the issues are concerned about illegal immigrants taking Americans jobs and not paying taxes. Those without the issue are mostly business owners who hire them because most immigrants will work for a low wage and owners also do not have to claim them on their taxes. Therefore the American...show more content... If businesses are fined or have some other disciplinary actions taken against them for hiring illegal immigrants, this would force them to stop. If they are more careful with whom they hire, illegal immigrants would not have a place of employment, therefore decreasing the number of illegal immigrants who come to America looking for jobs. America is considered to be "the land of Opportunity". From jobs, to healthcare, America has a lot to offer, which is why so many people want to live here. The issue with this is the US only allows a certain number of immigrants per year to become citizens. The majorities of immigrants who want to come to America know this and feel they might not be accepted in the small number that is allowed so they enter the country illegally. According to an article found in the New York Times, in 2008, there was an estimated 11.9 million illegal immigrants in America and since then the number has grown. Another solution to the illegal immigrant issue is to raise the number of visas given to immigrants per year. In another passage taken from the article by Jeff Jacoby, he states, "But because US law authorizes only 5000 visas annually for the low skilled immigrants, there is no lawful way for most of the workers we need to enter the country." By giving such a low number of visas to immigrants each year, it causes other immigrants to want to enter the country illegally, in an act of desperation. By raising the number of visas given, it can Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. The United States is a country that was built on immigration. The first settlers, Native Americans, represent less than 2% of the total population; the remaining 98% of the population are immigrants or decedents of immigrants. Today, the US still has the highest immigration rate in the world with 757,434 naturalizations in the 2012 fiscal year only (US Naturalizations 2012, Department of Homeland security). People try to immigrate to the United States for many reasons. Some people immigrate because they have been granted a refugee status or asylum and other people immigrate to fulfill their dreams. Immigration has an effect on the American society and economy. The US cannot survive without immigrants. Every year, many people immigrate...show more content... Furthermore, once in the US, most immigrants (due to lack of work authorization ) cannot provide for their needs. They make less than minimum wage so can only live in shady neighborhoods where insecurity rates are high. In order to survive, many immigrants do criminal acts like prostitution, theft, drug dealing, etc. And that generally increases the rate of insecurity in the nation. From an economic aspect, immigration is somewhat beneficial since it increases the US work force and it's economy. According to Camarota Steven on his testimony'' Immigration and the US economy'', immigration overall increases the economy of the US due to the fact that more workers and more people mean bigger GDP. He also pointed out that the impact of immigration of the seize of the economy is not a measure of the benefits of natives. That means that regardless of the benefits of natives, Immigration is a tool to increase the economy of the US. On the other hand, it can be detrimental to the US economy. In fact most of the immigrants work "under the table" which make the fiscal Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Only to become a hot topic in the US in recent years with its primary focus being illegal immigrants. Illegal immigration is when people enter a country without government permission. • 7. Immigration : The United States Essay America has been a point for immigration since the beginning of time. Although very similar, immigration from the 1900's to now is drastically different because there were and still are many opportunities to immigrate. From 1900 to about 1996, immigrating to America was relatively easy. From 1996 to today's time, immigrating into America is much more difficult. Due to the long process of becoming legal, many more immigrants choose to stay illegal. Beginning in the early 1900's, immigration proved to be quite difficult in the time being, however, today's immigration system proves to be much more difficult. In the 1900's there were means to come into America such as Ellis Island on the east coast and Angel Island on the west coast. There may have been difficult obstacles to become a legal United States citizen. Such obstacles include paying for a green card or getting a job or paying for housing. These obstacles which also exist in today's world are much more difficult to access. There was no such thing as a green card until the 1920's, which even then only cost a mere nickel. Without the need to worry for paying for and maintain a green card or work visa, which can cost anywhere from one hundred dollars to five hundred now, it was much easier for people to immigrate into America. In the early 1900's, the Mexican Revolution took place, "'The resulting chaos drove thousands of Mexicans north. • 9. Immigration in USA Essay The United States of America is the best place for immigration. The history proved that the United States was the dream land, the place of chances. That started when Europeans escaped form their countries because there were no jobs and no safe places to live. America became the best choice for people who were looking for political asylum, jobs, or freedom, but after a few generations something changed the Americans look to immigrants as strangers and they forgot where they are from because America is multicultural place andimmigration movement should be understandable, but this is not the case. At first the government supported open immigration in the open and settled land, but after the Civil War while, states began to pass their own immigration regulations and immigrating become more difficult. The Supreme Court decided immigration would be under federal jurisdiction in 1875, and Congress created the Department of Immigration in 1891. Since 1900 to 1921, Congress created the "quota system," which gave authorization for a specified number of individuals of all ethnic groups in immigration like most Asian nations (Wellman, Cole). The government has also put provisions designed to encourage migration of certain kinds of workers who have lost the skills from the current population. In 1924, as the fears of the immigrants fleeing from border increased, Congress set up the first Office of border control to watch the immigrants from Canada and Mexico. Immigration numbers decreased significantly around 1925 and 1945 In 1948, Congress made a temporary revision to the immigration policy to allow people displaced by World War II to be in America. in 1952, Congress made the McCarran –Walter Immigration and Nationality law, which officially canceled any remaining limitations on the grounds of race, and immigration to people of any nation. • 10. Immigration Argumentative Essay Immigration has been a burning issue lately, particularly after Donald Trump's immigration ban in the United States of America. It has been a topic that families discuss every morning with breakfast. Despite many concerns related to immigration, it has several positive benefits that mostly outweighs the negativity. People bizarrely argue when it comes to immigration, but these arguments are primarily based on facts and ideas that are outdated or inconsistent and blindfold the positive aspect related to immigration. Many immigrants in the United States are good workers who don't depend upon any public welfare and mostly help in the overall development of the economy. As a country made by immigrants, we must not forget the fact that immigrants have helped to build cities and create a path of development form Google to iPhones (Gray & Furman, 2012). These facts are secluded, and some related arguments with different content have been repeated for years and continue. Immigrants have a lot to give the United States rather than to take, especially when it comes to economic terms. Immigration has been an essential but disruptive aspect of the people and the political state of the United States; however, debates related to immigration and its benefits are intensified significantly. Opposing immigration keeps ranting on how government should exercise better law to control over the people entering into the States from the foreign land. One of the most buzzed argument is that American citizen is unemployed because immigrants stole their jobs and disrupted the economy (Hoban, 2017). Also, an appeal to National security and vulnerability after several terrorist attacks all over the world and also to the government to keep track and maintain the no. of immigrants to create a safer environment (Cafaro, 2009). However, the contrary to these arguments have often been proven right. The pattern of the immigration shows that the contribution of the immigrants has resulted in an economic boost that cannot be overlooked by the government. Most of the immigrants leave their home country and migrate to the United States because they can live in freedom, practice their religion and make the most out of their life (Arizaga 2006). • 11. The Experience of Immigrants in the United States Works Cited Not Included The United States has been a host to a wide diaspora of people. Immigrants have had to transition from their familiar land to a new–fashioned foreign land that they must consider home. They bring with them the essence of their initial homeland such as customs, traditions and beliefs that inadvertently change the dynamics of culture within the United States. As a result the United States is an extremely culturally diverse nation. The continual changes or accretions that Americans encounter have always been a controversial topic depending on the experiences of individuals and communities that have immigrant populations. Language barriers make it difficult for immigrants to establish relationships outside there own communities and it is often easier for them to build their stores and neighborhoods. Cultural community stores or working for minimum or less than minimum wages are not uncommon within immigrant communities. Another significant issue would be that many times cultural lines become blurred because of the different life styles. Cultural roles continue to be ever present but the roles of women and men in the work place are not as rigid because the economic stability becomes more significant than the male breadwinner role. Instances such as this were the male/female roles are diverged become significant because the dynamics of the essential cultural beliefs begin to mold according to necessity and environment. Within American society it is more customary to see women in a work environment than in Laos were traditional male hierarchy is present. In addition the cost of living in America is considerably higher so it's more practical for both parties to contribute. America is one of the most diverse nations in the world, attracting people from every corner of the globe in hopes of a better way of life. America in the past has relied on migrant workers to balance the economies growth when internal resources have been exhausted; moreover, the agriculture business has depended on the seasonal employment of migrant workers from Mexico to meet the labor demand. Mexicans entering under the agreement would not be employed either to displace domestic workers or to reduce their wages. (Garcia). The U.S.– Mexico Bracero program was originated in Stockton, Ca., on August 4, 1942. The immigrant workers also faced harsh conditions, most of the work that was left for the immigrants was work that no one else was willing to do. Summarized best, "During the United States– Mexico Bracero Program, 1942–1964, U.S. agribusiness employed a coercive factory regime, introduced mechanization and increased work hazards, and employed a dual wage structure to keep Mexican contract workers at a serious disadvantage to advance their own collective well–being"(Mize). Although the immigrant workers faced harsh working conditions, the Bracero program stimulated economic growth in the western farming industry, and was deemed a success for the American agriculture business. The Mexican–American border did not close after the closure of the Bracero program in 1964. Undocumented immigration was still a useful tool for the agricultural business. Until a speech by President Ronald Reagan in 1985, when Regan claimed that the United States had "lost control" of the immigration of Mexican workers into the United States. With these words president Reagan turned, "...undocumented immigration from a useful political issue(which it had always been) into a more fundamental question of national security"(Durand). • 13. Immigrants And The United States Essay Immigrants have been migrating to the Unites States for years. Many people in the United States have different opinions on immigrants: some are negative and some are positive. Some Americans assume that immigrants are here to destroy the United States, but immigrants are here for many purposes: to support their families, succeed in their future, or to escape violence occurring in their home countries. Many Americans think that once an immigrant has settled in the United States that he or she will right away get a job or quickly learn English. Imagine moving to a new school not knowing a single person. You will feel anxious or even discouraged. Now just imagine arriving in a new country and not knowing anyone and you can't speak English. Well, that is how millions of young and adult undocumented immigrants feel every day when trying to fit into the American culture. Life is hard for an undocumented immigrant. Immigrants in the United States face many challenges when trying to adapt or assimilate into the American culture. But my question is, what kind of mental health issues or other psychological problems do immigrants face when they are trying to adjust to the American culture, and how can our society alleviate some of that anxiety? When an undocumented immigrant settles in the United States, often their families who have remained in their own home country believe that living in the United States is easy. By acquiring information about each and every person, I can avoid the devastation of which I encountered throughout my childhood.
