It is great to be here and the organisers have asked me to talk about how businesses can survive tough times. However I want to look at the subject another way and look at the factors that distinguish the best businesses from those that do not make it.
Why are these businesses successful. TESCO – control of supply chain and volume, M&S on targetting key types of customers. Dell on efficiencies in manufacturing and logistics. Apple on brand power and design, Amazon on logistics and fulfilment. News Corp on size and media reach through subsidaries. Porsche, success aspirational brand
It is alright for these folk they are big and hugely successful but what about us the SME. We are living in turbulent times. A Euro that is on the verge of collapse OR renegotiation
Government debts around the world ballooning
Politician scandals - hands in the trough, incompetent in setting business policy
And the prediction of a potential W type recession
So what is your response? Do you ignore the crisis around you and put your head in the sand
