TATH 1051 Introduction to the Performing Arts - This course serves as an introduction to theatre
through the study of its origin and development, and its contemporary theory and practice.
The course will aim to increase critical understanding and appreciation for the art of theatre
as well as broaden the students understanding of the impact of the performing arts on culture
and society. Students will pursue course objectives through lecture, textbook reading and
evaluation, classroom discussion, in-class presentation, live production attendance, and
hands-on theatrical production experiences.
TATH 2401 Voice and Speech – To develop in the undergraduate actor an understanding of the
voice as an organ and as a physical instrument and to develop the vocal instrument though
physical release, breath, support, placement, resonance, range, articulation, and connection to
dramatic text.
TATH 2601 Introduction to Acting - The fundamentals of stage acting through exercises,
readings, discussion, and scene study. The beginning actor learns to play actions, utilize
activity, identify objectives and obstacles, and incorporate them all into performance.
Students learn to analyze the physical, cultural and emotional lives of characters in order to
create honest portrayals for both peers and audience; these abilities are developed by
introducing and applying the methodologies and practices of master acting teachers of the
20th century
TATH 3651 Acting 3: Shakespeare - An exploration of the works of the world's most celebrated
playwright, this course develops an understanding of Shakespeare's language, rhetoric and
performance techniques through sonnets, monologues, scene study and demonstration.
TATH 4451 Business of Theatre - Prepares students for a career in the professional theatre by
teaching the skills and knowledge needed for gaining employment and for good career
management. Topics include audition/portfolio materials, audition techniques and resources
for various professional markets. Students are exposed to a wide variety of topics related to
the business of theatre. Areas to be explored include: interviewing, auditions skills,
headshots, professional resumes, web based marketing, theatrical unions and associations,
agents, casting directors, graduate schools, actor training, unified auditions, internships,
survival jobs, professional contracts, business accounting and taxes, and other topics of
interest to the students.
TATH 4601 Acting IV: Styles - A scene study course with a primary focus on absurdist, non-
traditional performance texts, and contemporary non-realism. Students will learn to utilize
non-traditional rehearsal techniques such as the Viewpoints (sourcework and composition
included), Grotowski, and Michael Chekhov in the analysis, staging, and interpretation of
performance texts.

CTAR 158 Fundamentals of Acting – This course provides the student with a practical introduction
to the essential “tools” necessary for the beginning stage/film actor. Through instructor led
exercises, improvisations, assigned readings, responses and coached scene work the student
develops a skill set necessary for analyzing and creating a character in addition to gaining
theoretical insight into the craft of acting. This course falls under the university’s General
Education requirement.
CTAR 150L Introduction to Theatre - This course strives to enrich the theatre experience by promoting an
understanding of the way theatre is created. Students explore the text of a play from the point of view of
both practitioner and audience member. Through reading, analysis, live viewings, and practical hands-on
exercises the student immerses themselves in the theatrical event gaining an appreciation for the theatre
as a rich, powerful and relevant art form. This course falls under the university’s General Education
requirement.

Acting V – Business of Acting/Audition Technique
Students are exposed to a wide variety of topics related to the business of theatre. Areas explored
include: auditions skills, headshots, resumes, web based marketing, unions, agents, casting
directors, graduate school, training, unified auditions, day jobs, contracts, and other topics of
interest to the students. The student developed a professional resume, explored headshot
options, and created personal websites to assist in marketing themselves as theatre professionals.
Additionally, students broaden their experience with auditioning. Through instructor devised
audition drills students are exposed to a wide range of real world audition scenarios both on-
camera and off, including monologues, cold and warm readings of dramatic text and commercial
copy, callbacks, and interviews.

Putnam County Spelling Bee” and other bookings for the Drury Lane Water Tower Theatre.

Planned and implemented a 6 show main stage and 3 show late night theatre season. Handled all daily
operations including, but not limited to, financial planning, grant writing, marketing, volunteer
coordination, staffing, contract negotiations, production licensing and fundraising campaigns.
*Key Accomplishments:
- Raised the yearly operating budget from under $60,000 to over $100,000 in two years.
- Developed a strong relationship with the nationally recognized Arcus Foundation whose
funding helped to produce 4 LGBT themed productions in two seasons.
- Produced and directed the Michigan premier of Bat Boy: The Musical; the first musical produced
by Whole Art Theater in their 27 year history.
- Doubled the theatres seating capacity, added flooring that could be altered for each production
and renovated the lobby area.
- Increased the annual attendance by nearly 50% over two years

The course will aim to increase critical understanding and appreciation for the art of theatre as well as broaden the students understanding of the impact of the performing arts on culture and society. Students will pursue course objectives through lecture, textbook reading and evaluation, classroom discussion, in-class presentation, live production attendance, and hands-on theatrical production experiences. TATH 2401 Voice and Speech – To develop in the undergraduate actor an understanding of the voice as an organ and as a physical instrument and to develop the vocal instrument though physical release, breath, support, placement, resonance, range, articulation, and connection to dramatic text. TATH 2601 Introduction to Acting - The fundamentals of stage acting through exercises, readings, discussion, and scene study. The beginning actor learns to play actions, utilize activity, identify objectives and obstacles, and incorporate them all into performance. Students learn to analyze the physical, cultural and emotional lives of characters in order to create honest portrayals for both peers and audience; these abilities are developed by introducing and applying the methodologies and practices of master acting teachers of the 20th century TATH 3651 Acting 3: Shakespeare - An exploration of the works of the world's most celebrated playwright, this course develops an understanding of Shakespeare's language, rhetoric and performance techniques through sonnets, monologues, scene study and demonstration.
  • 2. TATH 4451 Business of Theatre - Prepares students for a career in the professional theatre by teaching the skills and knowledge needed for gaining employment and for good career management. Topics include audition/portfolio materials, audition techniques and resources for various professional markets. Students are exposed to a wide variety of topics related to the business of theatre. Areas to be explored include: interviewing, auditions skills, headshots, professional resumes, web based marketing, theatrical unions and associations, agents, casting directors, graduate schools, actor training, unified auditions, internships, survival jobs, professional contracts, business accounting and taxes, and other topics of interest to the students. TATH 4601 Acting IV: Styles - A scene study course with a primary focus on absurdist, non- traditional performance texts, and contemporary non-realism. Students will learn to utilize non-traditional rehearsal techniques such as the Viewpoints (sourcework and composition included), Grotowski, and Michael Chekhov in the analysis, staging, and interpretation of performance texts. Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, MI Part-Time Lecturer, 2010-2014 CTAR 158 Fundamentals of Acting – This course provides the student with a practical introduction to the essential “tools” necessary for the beginning stage/film actor. Through instructor led exercises, improvisations, assigned readings, responses and coached scene work the student develops a skill set necessary for analyzing and creating a character in addition to gaining theoretical insight into the craft of acting. This course falls under the university’s General Education requirement. CTAR 150L Introduction to Theatre - This course strives to enrich the theatre experience by promoting an understanding of the way theatre is created. Students explore the text of a play from the point of view of both practitioner and audience member. Through reading, analysis, live viewings, and practical hands-on exercises the student immerses themselves in the theatrical event gaining an appreciation for the theatre as a rich, powerful and relevant art form. This course falls under the university’s General Education requirement. Appreciation of theatre through understanding of historical development and societal function. Wayne State University, Detroit, MI Part-Time Lecturer, Fall 2013 Acting V – Business of Acting/Audition Technique Students are exposed to a wide variety of topics related to the business of theatre. Areas explored include: auditions skills, headshots, resumes, web based marketing, unions, agents, casting directors, graduate school, training, unified auditions, day jobs, contracts, and other topics of interest to the students. The student developed a professional resume, explored headshot options, and created personal websites to assist in marketing themselves as theatre professionals. Through instructor devised audition drills students are exposed to a wide range of real world audition scenarios both on- camera and off, including monologues, cold and warm readings of dramatic text and commercial copy, callbacks, and interviews. Handled all daily operations including, but not limited to, financial planning, grant writing, marketing, volunteer coordination, staffing, contract negotiations, production licensing and fundraising campaigns. *Key Accomplishments: - Raised the yearly operating budget from under $60,000 to over $100,000 in two years. - Developed a strong relationship with the nationally recognized Arcus Foundation whose funding helped to produce 4 LGBT themed productions in two seasons. - Produced and directed the Michigan premier of Bat Boy: The Musical; the first musical produced by Whole Art Theater in their 27 year history. - Doubled the theatres seating capacity, added flooring that could be altered for each production and renovated the lobby area. - Increased the annual attendance by nearly 50% over two years Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI Arts Administration Apprentice, 1996-1999 Assisted the Director of Arts Management with marketing, public relations, box office coordination, work study employee training, front of house coordination, advertising sales and fundraising campaigns.
