A lecture-laboratory class focusing on the basic principles of acting in combination
with script analysis. 2004
Studio 2: Voice for the Actor I
This studio focuses on the body-mind interconnectedness required for efficient vocal
production.Introduced is an integration of fundamental vocal production techniques
inspired by Patsy Rodenburg, comprehensive text analysis,introduction to
International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), and Eastern based physicalpractice (a
synthesis ofSuzuki training, slow tempo and Ki testing).2003-Present
Studio 4: Voice for the Actor II
This studio builds upon the training introduced in Studio 2,towards the heightened
text of Shakespeare. Students practice scansion,learning how the rhythmof the
language and rhetorical devices reveal character/given circumstances and inform
playable action. IPA is utilized to practice a non-regional dialect. 2003-Present
Singing Actor
This studio focuses on the study and performance of solo, duet,and small ensemble
works for musical theatre. Students learn how integrate principles introduced in
Acting 1, Acting 2, Basic Musicianship,Studio 2 (Voice for the Actor I), and private
voice lessons.2009-Present
Studio 7: Acting III
This studio focuses on 2-3 projects that explore: characters that require international
and national dialects (offering rehearsal techniques, ear training and written
components utilizing IPA); devised ensemble work (silent narratives and/orphysical
narratives interweaving text using the forms presented in Eastern based physical
practice learned in Studios 2 & 4); ethnographic monologues. 2003-Present
Shakespeare in Performance
This course focuses on understanding and analyzing Shakespeare’s plays for
production – how to glean pertinent information from the language. Designed to
address all areas of student focus:design,acting, dramaturgy, directing, stage
management, and playwriting – assignments are both creative and analytical. 2015-
Present
Acting: for Dancers
This studio focuses on how text connects to physicalaction, how varying rhythmic
patterns and spatial relationships reveal character; how to imaginatively create
character/point of view with a partner and within an ensemble; how to manage 1st, 2nd,
and 3rd energy circles (Patsy Rodenburg) in conjunction with 4 principles of Aikido.

Studio 10: Audition Techniques and Repertory

This studio focuses on skills necessary for selection, preparation, and presentation of
material appropriate for professional auditions.Topics may include: cold/prepared
readings, monologues, cattle calls, on-camera auditions,various contract specifics,
agents,managers, headshots,resumes,and union information. 2003-2005

Directed study of creative projects and artistic research. This includes solo
performance pieces, directing projects, and environmental/theatre for social change.

SELECTED PROGRAM, CURRICULUM, COURSE DEVELOPMENT
Created Immersive Learning Course connected to department production of “Still Life with Iris.” This
project focused on: weekly collaboration between all members of the design,performance and
production teams; development and implementation of artistic designs and practices that are
sustainable/regenerative/green; a learning environment where studying artists can envision the theatre of
tomorrow; expansion of the artist’s mind towards a more global reach; exploration in how theatre can
encourage dialogue and action in a community; the artist defining how s/he will contribute to her/his
field and the industry; assessment of current practices in the Department of Theatre and Dance, and
articulation of ways in which we might be more efficient, create less waste, and integrate earth-friendly
choices when possible.This project was an interdisciplinary experiment involving Architecture,
Chemistry, and Natural Resources and Environmental Management Departments. Spring 2013
Created training lab integrated with curriculum where all levels of BFA majors (acting, dance, musical
theatre) and faculty members could work togetheron Eastern based physical practice (a synthesis of
Suzuki training, slow tempo, Ki testing and Rodenburg’s Circles of Energy). Spring 2011 – present
Coordinated opportunity for BFA actor to accompany me to South Africa and act in production of Alchemy
of Desire/Dead Man’s Blues for the Grahamstown National Arts Festival. This involved advising in
grant writing and the creation of two courses prior to travel. Summer 2012

Developed and co-directed a field studies program to South Africa. This program involved creating an itinerary,
and two department courses prior to traveling with 12 acting/dance/musical theatre/theatre education
students to Pretoria, South Africa. Students participated in performance classes at Tshwane University
of Technology’s Arts Campus; attended professionalperformances in Johannesburg and Pretoria as well
as national museums and places of historical interest; and spent a full week in Kruger Park. Under the
supervision of the co-leaders, each student created an original creative work based on his/her experience
of this field study opportunity. Summer, 2010

Instrumental in bringing in Cuban/Croatian/Argentine playwright, Caridad Svich, for an inter-disciplinary
writing workshop for students to accompany the production of her play, Alchemy of Desire/Dead Man’s
Blues, which was performed, 2006
Worked with Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology in creating a codified relationship between
performance students and graduate speech students which includes scheduled vocal assessments (to gain
information about their vocal health habitual patterns) Fall 2004 – present
As Coordinator of the Acting area, duties included: scheduling of acting classes for both the BFA Acting
and BFA Musical Theatre programs; tracking individual student progress and history of performance
opportunities; national recruitment of students; advising ofcourses; calculating program assessment
