4. Research- Based Strategies to improve
Engagement
❖ Building positive environment in the classroom is “an
emotionally honest classroom…ensuring that trust is established
and that risk-taking is not only an option but also an action
encouraged by the teacher” (Hanna, 2014, p.225).
❖ Getting know the students is key element to motivate and
engage the students .Banas (2018) states that in order to produce
student motivation, you need to think a little more about what
makes your students tick” (Banas, 2018, slide 6).
5. Research- Based Strategies to improve
Engagement
❖ Providing feedback is one of the important way
to motivate and engage students in classrooms.
Roels, Van, and Van (2010) state that “the
positive effect of elaborate feedback on student
appreciation is encouraging” (p.1192)
❖ Making connections with the real life is an
invaluable to engage students to lessons.Jablon &
Tuner & Amanda (2015) states that “ Recent
scholarship in mathematics education has
increasingly supported the power of connecting
mathematics lessons to students’ lived
experiences”(p.1150)
6. Using Technology to improve the engagement
❖ “Today’s students are increasingly
knowledgeable and skilled with technology
that links them to information networks
worldwide. As a result, educators have no
alternative but to become literate in all
areas of technology” (Twymon, 2018, slide
2
❖ “The use of games to promote student’s
learning has been done in the past to
capture students’ interest as all of us learn
better when we are motivated”( Walker&
Greene, 2009, p.465).

Editor's Notes
As teachers, we all know that get to know every single students is key to meet the needs all students. For example, I believe the importance of building a good and strong relationship with my students and their parents is a key factor to get in touch with my all my students in my classroom. When, I build a positive environment, motivating them is not going to be hard at all. One of the great way is home visits. Thanks to home visits, I reach most of my goals.
To improve the motivation and engagement, we need to consider to improve the four component of the motivation which are self-efficacy, adaptive feedback, intrinsic motivation and goal orientation. According to those components, adaptive feedback is very essential to engage all students into class by motivating them. The other one is to give students a taste of real life. When they see the connections with the real life while learning the topics with the real life, they are being more motivated to learn.
A. One of my favorite websites is Kahoot and the other one is Quizlet. Those are the great website to create review quizzes while moving on the new material. While playing, the students are reviewing the topics with your friends and with yourself in fun way. In addition to engaging students lessons, using technology is very useful for teachers to save time and energy to assess the students.
