The document discusses plans for a music video targeting teenagers and young adults. It will feature a mysterious man kidnapping and cutting into another man, though for the greater good, portraying a vigilante. Scenes will use color correction, slow motion, and fast cuts. Locations like forests and graffiti walls aim to seem creepy and where "thugs" reside. Costumes incorporate black jeans, boots and masks to represent criminality and death. Lighting will use red and blue colors on the characters to give them distinguishing visual traits carrying through to promotions. The goal is to challenge stereotypes about youth while capturing elements common to the rock genre.

Representation and mise en scene
1.
2. • My target audience for my music video is teenagers and young adults. The
main subjects within my music video are young men, The common
stereotype of young people are lazy, aggressive and criminal. Within my
music video I have tried to play on this although I have not fully challenged
the convention I have tried to update the concept. By this I mean I have
represented my mysterious man to be a ‘psyco’ by kidnapping a man and
cutting into him. However he does this for the greater good. This giving him
a vigilante representation. I wanted to relay the message ‘you shouldn’t
judge a book by its cover’ as although he is made to seem like an antagonist
he is really the Protagonist of the video.
• My character who gets kidnapped is supposed to relate to the audience as he
is confused by his situation and constantly fights. However I want my
audience to relate to him in a different way. I want them to relate to him
when he ‘wakes up’ and realises that he was in a routine and isn’t ‘living’. I
feel that we all get stuck into our daily routines and the reason for my
secondary character is to show this. I want his relatability to show my
audience that we should live in the moment and not in the past or future.
3. Here are a few editing techniques I plan to Use within My music
video.
Colour Correction Because I feel that changing the colour
correction of raw shots creates a professional feeling, I also want
to add hints of blue in order to play on the Fact that my main
narrative character is lost. This helps to enhance my narrative as
his emotions are visual as well as sound.
Slow Motion in order to emphasise certain props and emotions
that are key within my narrative.
Fast Paced Edits to converge with the genres key elements and
to create tension for my audience, especially when my main
character gets kidnapped and cut open.
4. Mise en scene Plays a huge role, This is because the visuals on screen cannot seem out
of place or it will make the media text unbelievable for the audience as well as not
converging with the genres stereotypes. This is why I tried to find disorientating
locations such as Forests and Graffiti covered walls. I also wanted to find inspiration
that I could put into my Digipack and poster. I decided that I liked the way the Graffiti
wall looked on my video and am going to have a photo shoot in front of one for my
poster, I also think that that will help to link to my music video. The one important
aspect of my location that I wanted to include was if it seemed to be where ‘young
thugs’ could reside or if it has pre-existing stereotypes of being ‘creepy’That is why I
chose a forest as eveyone hates walking through a forest at night because you don’t
know who is going to be hiding
in the trees. This predatorial
atmosphere was what I wanted to
create in order to link with my
narrative and the rock genre.
5. I chose to have Black skinny jeans and boots on
both of the boys for the performance element of
my music video because of their Association
with the Rock community. I also made a
conscious decision to include a colour scheme
to the costume as like the white stripes, this
could be something that they are known for.
And that I could carry over into their poster and
Digipack.
I have Included fashion elements that I feel link
to the genre. One example of this being the
white beanie hat. I have done this because for
bands like Twenty One Pilots they wear a lot of
ski masks as a hat. That is because they are
playing to their Young stereotype that all young
people are criminals and thugs.
6. I have chosen dark colours for my
narrative costume, to represent and
play on the young stereotype
further. I have chosen my vigilante
character to wear a ‘skull mask’
This is for two reasons. The first is
so that he can cover up his face and
play on that criminal/ thug
stereotype. The second reason is to
connote that in Brocks eyes this
Man is going to kill him, almost like he is his grim Reaper. I felt that this link to death and
destruction converged with the Rock genre as in many music videos there are subtle links
towards this subject. I also felt that this could be carried through onto my Digipack and his mask
alone could be on one of the 6 sides. I chose Brock to be in a grey T-Shirt to represent him living
his dull life and not having much variation or anything to be excited for. My goal was to try and
address the day to day routine that we all get stuck in and how this routine makes our lives
predictable, boring and makes us loose sight of what we really want to do. This lose of control
and sight is what I based my narrative around.
7. Lighting was the one convention that I wanted to
experiment with. It is very common that within Rock music
videos to have High key lighting for the performance
elements of the video and Low-key lighting for the
narrative. The reason they do this is to create a sinister
atmosphere with their characters and to play to the
stereotypes of young people (Predatorial and criminal). For
my performance I also wanted to add Low-key performance
lighting with coloured lights. I did this so that I could
emphasise the blue colour correction that I knew I wanted
to include within my editing and give the video itself a
colour scheme.
8. I wanted to focus on my lighting as I felt that It can say a lot about the narrative
and characters. I had the idea to have Brock and Ramy in red and blue lighting
within the same shot. To do this I found as many sheets as I could and blacked
out the room. This was important as it made the two boys the subject of my
shot. In order To create the effect of each boy in a different colour I had them
hold the others lighting on their face so that The blue or red wouldn’t shine on
their own face by accident and ruin the effect. I felt this was one of the most
important shots as I wanted each band member to have a different coloured
lighting. I felt that I could carry this
colour scheme through into my
Digipack and poster In order to give
them something to be remembered for,
Almost like JLS how they were known
to be either red, blue, green or yellow.
