Brands have always used smart tactics to put their rivals down through ads and promotional campaigns in order to prove their superiority in their respective fields. Sometimes these banters take the ugly turn but in many cases they show the healthy relationship these brands share off the screen.

Marketing helps in bringing companies into consumer’s attention but what makes a company stand out is how it
treats its competitors. Competition is necessary but it needs to be healthy. A playful banter is always welcome.
Recently, BMW celebrated its 100th anniversary. Mercedes Benz, the biggest name in the automobile industry, not
only congratulated BMW but also invited its worker to Mercedes Benz museum.
There are innumerable instances where one brand has trolled another brand through witty captions on billboards,
Twitter, Facebook et al and becomes apparent to come into notice of all. We assure you a hundred percent
entertainment. You’ll roll on the floor laughing after you read the brands’ replies on the rival’s repartee.

In the Chicken commercial, the scientist is holding a chicken, making it move to the music of “Upside Down” by Diana
Ross. It can be seen that head of chicken stays at one place while its whole body dances along the tune. The point
Mercedes wanted to put forward was that of stability as the tagline said:
“Stability at all times. Magic Body Control. Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive”

Jaguar took a shot at this and made its own version of the commercial by adding a twist at the end of the video. The
scientist can be seen holding the chicken but when the claim of stability and magic body control is made, a leopard
suddenly comes into scene and devourers the chicken. Jaguar’s ad said:
“Magic Body Control? We prefer cat-like reflexes”.

In order to promote CLA, Mercedes came up with the idea of testing it for aerodynamics by placing a cat on its
bonnet. Reference to Jaguar! Gedit! In this commercial a cat, sleepy and with no reflex at all is seen being slipped
from the surface of the car to the ground. What makes it interesting is that the cat does not even notices? Then,
Mercedes came with the following poster and the war ended in Mercedes Benz’s favor.

The #AurDikhao campaign by Amazon was a huge hit. Amazon has been luring customers with its innovative, witty
and funny advertisements. When it launched #AurDikhao campaign, the company took to twitter to make it a
trending hashtag and for this, it trolled other brands to garner attention from the audience.
Well, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that Amazon actually succeeded. Big companies make bigger enemies, Amazon
took notice of the fact that Zomato had changed its tagline a couple of times and did not miss opportunity to
comment on it. Had it been Flipkart or Snapdeal, it could have taken an ugly turn. Probably! But Zomato kept it witty
and simple.
