Gia is an artist known for her protest music and using her platform to advocate for social change. The proposed music video will show her protesting alongside others and using her voice to stand up for what she believes in. Scenes will include Gia protesting, feeling free by a hilltop, and confronting politicians. The video aims to portray Gia as a strong voice for young people and showcase how anyone can make their voice heard through protest.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2. Gia's introduction
• Gia is the girl you can instantly trust. The mixes of
innocence and power, she's calm but she'll voice her
opinion loud and proud when necessary. Gia is a role
model, from the things she wears to the things she
protests. Gia's albums carry a lot of different genres
but her most viral ones are her protest ones including
her new single American Idiot. She has a strong voice
that demands to be heard but one that can also be
presented as soft and comforting. Gia isn't afraid of
what people say when it comes to her clothes. Gia
likes baggy trousers and baggy t shirts, she likes neon
just as much as she likes monochrome colours and she
can make anything look good.
3. Audience research
Gia's audience is very varied however most will be the younger generation as Gia is
passionate about how she can support and protest for their future as well as hers. Gia
has fans worldwide however has gained a lot of American fans after she speaks up
about common problems in America, for example in her new single 'American Idiot'
where she saw a huge rise in American fans. Gia's fans are kind and supportive. Gia
doesn’t have a majority gender in which she reaches out to. She connects with
everyone who listens to her music and connects especially with people who are looking
for a light to follow, a brave influence. Supporters of Gia's career share interests such as
making a difference in the world. Ths could be picking up the rubbish in your area or
going to powerful protests with a proud head and a strong balance. Both of these make
a big step in a more beautiful future for this generation.
4. Micro and Macro ideas
• MACRO
• The main idea I want to have in my music video is that everybody has a voice and everybody can
use it and to show this I will be showing scenes of Gia protesting and using her voice amongst lots
of other young people ready to make a change for their better future.
• I would like people to see how strong Gia (a delicate looking girl) is and how she can create power
for herself to be heard for a cause not only affecting her.
• MICRO
• I want clips of Gia protesting
• There will be clips of her feeling free and expressing her emotions to the world (shouting, skipping,
waving her arms around freely).
• I will include footage of Gia laying on top of the table holding a meeting between the government.
5. Locations
• To represent Gia's idea of freedom, I chose locations such as empty fields and on top of
hills. Gia is shows prancing in the middle of a field with sparklers, also on top of a hill lifting
her arms up in relief and relaxation. Gia has a shot strolling down an empty street skipping
and singing too, this shows how easy it is for her to forget about the world and gain the
confidence to simply not care what anyone may think of her If they were to look out their
windows and see her prancing around public spaces like that.
6. Plot/narration
• The video will begin with Gia looking in the mirror wearing the most simplistic, American stereotypical smart wear
and as the lyrics begin to say "don’t wanna be an American Idiot", the camera will quickly shake and re focus on
Gia in clothes she feels and looks more comfortable, in smiling cheekily. The next shot shows Gia walking down
the street skipping and twirling until the lines "f*ck America" play in which she stops to say. The camera quickly
pans up and back down to Gia protesting for her right to know the truth but she calmly looks at the camera to
mouth the lyrics playing "welcome to a new kind of tension". This is where the other social group come in (the
government) who are standing less confident on a stage labelled "lies" before they walk rapidly inside in distress.
The camera follows them inside through a door with a sign saying "meeting in progress" in which a long table is
presented, surrounded by business men and women (the government). The camera will pan around the table and
then spin upwards to show Gia laying along the table reciting the lyrics going with the song. She looks smug and
care free as the government debate as if she wasn’t there. The song continues "Television dreams of tomorrow"
where we see Gia running up a hill and turns around to the camera to say "We're not the ones who're meant to
follow" with a shrug and carries on to the top of the hill where the sun is setting and Gia looks free. A pan of Gia
with her arms wide open to the world ahead shows and pans from both ways. This is repeated with different pans
and arm motions. Gia is then filmed from a high angle writing the word 'America' onto a plate and then a
repeated shot of her smashing it occurs, one from high and the other from a low angle. She is then back on the
hill with the words 'American Idiot' on her forehead like she has been labelled it and once again says the words
"Don’t wanna be an American Idiot" and wipes it off with a clenched jaw and a soft smile once it has been wiped
off completely. The wacky top to this cake is Gia in an open field, with a sparkler in each hand prancing around
with her freedom and happiness, as if she is sure she will accomplish the truth.
7. Props
• The main prop is the plate which Gia
writes America on and then smashes it
on the ground with passion and
determination to break the plate. This
plate represents weak America, the
kind that lies to their public. Gia
smashing the plate shows that she is
ready to break this trend. I would also
like to add that every single bit of plate
got picked up and safely disposed of
after the plate smashing shot.
8. Make-up
• In the first photo, you see me adding highlighter onto Gia's chin,
top of her cheekbones and along the middle of her nose. This was
to make Gia glow and shine with the sun reflecting on her face.
This makes Gia look hydrated and helps give a happier look.
• The second photo shows the song title on her forehead. For this I
simply used an eyebrow pencil as it makes It easy for Gia to wipe
off in one of the shots.
• In the third and final photo, I am painting Gia's nails red. I chose
the colour red to emphasise the urgency in her protest. I gave a
clear shot of Gia's nails in the plate shot also to show how she is
'warning' everyone of the fear, that is, America and their
government.
9. Costumes
• I tried to put as much yellow in Gias
outfits as I could in order to
maintain a yellow theme (flows
through her website, merch and
now the music vdeo).
10. Social groups
• Two different social groups- My two different social groups are the protesters (Gia) and the
government. These two social groups are battling against each other whilst Gia and her
fellow protesters, protest against the government and the lies they tell. They protest for
honesty and a better future. You first see the second social group (the government) on a
stage titled "lies" as they look smart and artificial. Standing on the ground in front of the
stage you see the main social group (the protesters and Gia) holding signs requesting the
lies stop and making it obvious they will not fall for the governments riddles and be an
'American idiot'
