2. Objective
To create a technology training and mentoring
program that grooms middle and high schools
students to be technology professionals, leaders,
and innovators.
3. Goals
To offer a social media skills course for all
interested students in our target grade level.
One-on-one mentoring to help students
understand and master the course content.
To invite the brightest students from the social
media course to learn HTML5 to create mobile
content display.
One-on-one mentoring for course content, as well
as group technology events and coaching from
technology professionals.
4. Dates
Training for middle/high school
Social media: August 17 to September 7 (four
Saturdays).
Mobile: TBD (Fall of 2013 or Winter/Spring 2014).
Training for trainers
August 12-16
5. Students
Any child in the appropriate grade level - middle
and high school.
Students with strong interest and aptitude in the
social media course are automatically eligible to
take advanced computer courses.
6. Criteria for Trainer/Mentors
Local university students as course trainers and
mentors.
Basic requirements:
Undergraduate or graduate computer science
students (minimum 3.2 on 4.0 scale).
Strong faculty recommendations.
Project management or organizational skills.
Experience or interest in mentoring younger students.
Experience or willingness to learn social media skills
and mobile technologies.

9. Mentors
Train more trainers than will be needed to
conduct the courses.
Select trainers and mentors from this pool of

selected as trainer for this session, but might be a
mentor the next session.)
10. Logistics
Courses held at University of Ziguinchor.
USAid Senegal provides transportation for
students to the university.
Project demos at conclusion of class held at
University of Ziguinchor.
11. Compensation
Trainers (paid compensation per Nayah and
academic credit per university)
Mentors (academic credit per university)
Middle/high school students (nominal fee for
each paid by USAID Senegal-Ziguinchor)
