1. Rick Bartels, MBA - Biography
Rick Bartels is a true sales and marketing professional, consultant, educator, and mentor. Rick is
passionate about driving business and helping clients solve problems and grow their businesses. His
consultative selling style, business knowledge and strategic marketing expertise underpins Rick's proven
success.
Rick began his healthcare business career with AstraZeneca in 1986 as a medical sales representative in
upstate New York. Over the subsequent 21 years Rick enjoyed a rich and rewarding career at
AstraZeneca where he held numerous sales and marketing leadership roles with an ever expanding
scope of responsibility. Rick has expertise in all facets of healthcare marketing; including strategy and
tactical plan development, market research, managed care and brand management at the director level,
just to name a few. Following AstraZeneca, Rick headed up the IVIG portfolio as Marketing Director at
CSL Behring where he led the team in the strategic development and execution of two highly successful
brand launches.
More recently Rick's entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Schooner Marketing a strategic
marketing services company where he leveraged his years of diverse pharmaceutical/bio-
pharmaceutical marketing experience as he worked closely with companies to design and execute
focused strategies tailored to drive results. Rick has worked with a variety of clients ranging from,
advertising agencies and pharmaceutical companies to retailing and fitness centers.
Rick Joined Cardinal Health as an Account Executive in 2011 to undertake an exciting business
development opportunity in a new start-up division called Cardinal Health Specialty Solutions. In this
role Rick leverages his vast healthcare business experience and consulting expertise to introduce an
innovative suite of practice management, and EHR tools specifically designed for community based
Rheumatology practices. These unique tools increase office efficiencies and profitability and are based
on the latest advances in healthcare information technology.
In addition to his professional career, Rick also shares his knowledge and expertise at the University of
the Sciences in Philadelphia where he is an Adjunct Professor in the Healthcare Business MBA program.
Professor Bartels has taught a variety of healthcare business courses and has lectured on the intricacies
and impact of healthcare reform and the changing dynamics of healthcare delivery in the US.
A devoted father of three college bound children, Rick lives in Wayne, PA. He is an avid cyclist and can
often be found riding the rolling hills of Chester county and Valley Forge park. Rick also enjoys golf,
skiing, sailing, and his new passion, CrossFit workouts.
