3. What is the automation?
Automation is a control system where
productions task, usually performed by human
operators, are transferred to a set of
technological elements to carry out a process.
An automated system adjust is in operation in
response to changes in external condition in
there stages: mediation, evaluation and control
Jesús Balam Marcos Jiménez 3
4. • Automation is classified into 3 types
fixed, programmable and flexible
Jesús Balam Marcos Jiménez 4
5. Formed by management and
operation
• Management: it´s t the center
of the system. It comunicates
with all the constituents of the
automated system (wiring,
programs, electronic cards,
computers …)
Jesús Balam Marcos Jiménez 5
6. • Operations: acts directly on the machine
(sensors and actuators)
Jesús Balam Marcos Jiménez 6
7. Sensors
• A sensor is a device that transforms a
mechanical, chemical, presence, pressure,
temperature. Signal into an electrical signal in
order to be detected by a control system.
Jesús Balam Marcos Jiménez 7
9. Actuators
• It is a mechanical device whose function is to
provide force to move or "act" another
mechanical device.
• Actuators transform energy into work.
• The actuator receives the command from a
regulator or controller and gives an output
necessary to activate a final control element such
as the valves.

10. Actuators
• They can be of type:
• pneumatic
• Hydraulic
• Electric

11. Controllers Equipment
• Control is the manipulation of a "plant"
system through another system called a
control system without the intervention of the
operator on the output elements.
Jesús Balam Marcos Jiménez 11
12. • The control system can be through
programming with computers, micro-
processors or PLCs, therefore, each one of
them works based on the information
received by the sensors and acts on the
actuators.

13. PLC (Programmable Logic Controller)
• Generic device.
• Use in various
sectors.
• Standard
programming
language.
• Communication
improvement.
• Device limited
failure.

14. Data acquisition and monitoring
• A Data Acquisition System (SAD or DAQ) is
designed primarily for the measurement and
analysis of one or more physical quantities
characteristic of a real system.
Jesús Balam Marcos Jiménez 14
15. Data acquisition
• A DAQ system consists of sensors, DAQ
measurement hardware and a PC with
programmable software
Jesús Balam Marcos Jiménez 15
16. • DAQ hardware acts as the interface between a PC and
signals from the outside world. It works primarily as a
device that digitizes incoming analog signals so that a PC
can interpret them.
Jesús Balam Marcos Jiménez 16
17. • The three key components of a DAQ device used
to measure a signal are the signal conditioning
circuit, analog-to-digital converter (ADC), and a
PC bus.
