2. Synopsis
Charlie is a Rhode Island state trooper with a
multiple personalities. He is otherwise mild-
mannered and non confrontational until
somebody or something pushes him a little too
far. That's when his maniacal alter-ego, Hank,
takes over. Charlie is assigned on a routine
mission to return alleged fugitive Irene back to
upstate New York, but they wind up on the run
from corrupt police officers. And their escape
would be a lot simpler on everybody involved if
Hank didn't keep stepping in at the most
inopportune times....

4. Characters
The lead character, Charlie Baileygates, played by Jim Carrey, is
diagnosed with multiple personalities, which also called dissociative
identity disorder ( DID ). In the movie, he develops a second
personality, named Hank. The factors that DID develops are usually
childhood trauma. In about 90% cases, there is a childhood abuse,
while other cases are linked to experiences of war or health problem
during childhood. There really isn’t a perfect treatment yet for people
with DID, most people who develops DID usually do not seek medical
help. Jim Carrey’s character doesn’t get diagnosed till late in life. He
was always made fun in his life, but he kept his anger inside. Hank
came out as his anger was ready.
5. Audiences
The Farrelly Brothers gives audiences the vindictive pleasure of seeing
someone who messed with Charlie get comeuppance and provides a
villain in the film that Charlie has to defeat if he’s going to finally move
on with his life. Considered the sexual content and violent scene in the
film, this film is available for age group 15+ which targets wide range of
audience. Many audiences, especially those with even knowledge of
mental health issues, have taken issue with Charlie’s diagnosis of
schizophrenia.
6. Genre
How Farrelly Brothers use their trademark gross-out humour
made film special. This established genre of the film—slapstick
comedy. For example, a cow survives getting shot several times in
the head and a giant dildo gets enough screen time to almost
deserve credit as a supporting actor, but none of that betrays or
gets in the way of the simple and sad story at the centre of the film.
