2. Conventional Layout
The layout of the album cover follows a conventional album cover
that features an image of the band. The album cover follows the
route of the eye concept as the person looking at the album will
look at the band name to see who produced the album. They will
then look at what the album is called and finally look at the image
of the band. This conventional layout would hopefully entice the
person to buy it as they will look at the whole of the album cover.
The album cover doesn’t look too cluttered and its straight to the
point with the name of the album, the band name and the album
name.
The layout of the magazine advert for an album release I feel I quite
conventional. It displays some aspects of what was on the album, for
example, the same image of the band. This helps the two products
work together in promoting the album. In most album adverts positive
quotes on the album are used and they are usually positioned at the
centre bottom of the page so the person looking at the advert looks at
what the advert is and what band its from and then they read the
feedback. Rather than reading feedback at the top of the page when
they don’t know what its about. The layout is featured on a portrait
page as adverts in magazines are rarely seen as a double page spread.
3. Comparing Conventional Layout
The Razorlight album cover shares similar conventions to my
created ablum cover. The Band name is positioned at the top of
the album cover and the band image is centred in the middle of
the page. It follows route of the eye as the person looking at the
album will look at the album name/band name then will look
across as the band members from left to right. The album cover
is conventional to indie-rock as it isn’t too cluttered and is quite
simple too.
The layout of the Kasabian magazine advert is conventional
and similar to my created magazine advert. The advert layout
has the main image which is featured on the album in the
centre of the page. It then has the quotes underneath with the
tagline ‘The New Album’ which is in bold black writing
which stands out.
4. Conventions of Back Cover
The layout of the back cover is quite conventional with the shot list
of the left-hand side and the title at the top of the cover. The back
cover includes the song-list because this where a song-list most
often appears on an album. Having the record label on the back of
the album is conventional as it promotes the record labels music as
well as the album music. The copyright text always appears on the
back of an album cover along with other features such as the bar
code. The colours used are quite dark and negative colours, dark
colours often are associated with indie-rock. The image used on the
back is an effective convention as it shows the back of the lead
singer and it’s the back of the album so its as if you can see the
front of the lead singer on the front and the back of the lead singer
on the back. The lead Singer being shown on his own on the back
emphasises his leading role in the band.

5. CD Design and Album Strip Conventions
The CD cover I have created is conventional as it
relates to the consistency to the albums house style.
The artwork is similar to the from of the album and
the title also features on the CD cover. The image of
the lead singer is used on the CD to emphasize
further that he is the main person within the band, it
shows he is the lead singer.
The Kasabian CD cover is conventional as it links
with the front cover of the four images positioned
around the CD and album cover. The colours of
black and white are consistent on both album and
CD and the simple non cluttered style is used on
both.
The Side album strip is a conventional cover as
most album strips show the band name in the
same font style and the same album name in the
same font on the side. The background is the
same colour so it is consisted like other albums
that are on the market.
