3. STEP 1
Print out the desired word onto a clear/clean plastic sheet (acetate) in a clear
font, font size should be 7-10. Make sure that the font is white on Microsoft
Word when printed out with an 8cmX5cm rectangle of black behind it. Make
sure the print settings are on its highest quality and, also, printing on the right
surface – Matte Glossy Photo Paper etc.
4. STEP 2
Then make a replica sized piece of blank card with a tiny rectangle cut
out (the size of the word previously). Stick this to the plastic sheet with
the word on using bluetack. When a light is shone on this object a
partial amount of light should now be able to pass through the letters
of the word as there should be no cardboard behind it.
5. STEP 3
Stick this to the lens of your camera using more bluetack and zoom
into maximum capacity so you can look through the word (as it is
transparent) whilst making sure the picture is not obstructed in any
way. The word may be printed out too small so choose a bigger font if
so Make sure the aperture is turned to its highest setting so you can
capture more light.
6. STEP 4
Find somewhere with little natural light and a dominance of artificial light
(traffic at night). Start recording, make sure your camera is still in full
zoom, then alter the focus so that only really close objects are in focus
(make sure manual focus is on) and the out of focus light (bokeh) from
street lamps, cars, etc should be received in the form of the word stuck to
your lens. The more you change the focus the bigger/smaller the words
get.
