SIGNS ARE REMINDERS

 Then do they await except that the Hour should come upon them unexpectedly? But already there
have come [some of] its indications. Then what good to them, when it has come, will be their
remembrance?
PURPOSE OF STUDY OF THIS SUBJECT
 No one can know when the Day of Judgment will occur.
 Allah (SWT) has mercifully taught His messengers some of the signs
 These signs alert one to the fact that the Hour is approaching.
 These signs serve as reminder for those who live at a time distant from the Prophet
and who did not experience first hand his teaching and example.
 These signs reinforce one’s belief in the Prophet(SAW).
 They should revive the heart of the person and make him recall that Allah has
complete knowledge and so what he is doing on this earth and to where all this is
heading.
 This consciousness by witnessing the Signs of the Hour, should make the person
worship and fear God knowing full well that He is seeing him. This is the superior
level of faith known as ihsaan.
TWO CATEGORIES OF SIGNS
The signs of the
Hour can be
divided into: two
types.
A- MINOR
SIGNS-
These signs
occur as part of
the changes in
everyday life.
B- MAJOR
SIGNS-
These are the
extraordinary or
supernatural
events that will
occur just
before the
actual Hour.
MINOR SIGNS
LEADERSHIP OF THE WICKED-
 Prophet (SAW) prophesized that: “People would follow a way of life other
than mine, and give guidance other than mine”…
 “I fear for my people only the leaders who lead men astray”…
 “Before the Last Hour there will be great liars, so beware of them”…
 “When the most wicked member of a tribe becomes its ruler, and the most
worthless member of a community becomes its leader, and a man is
respected through fear of the evil he may do, and leadership is given to
people who are unworthy of it, expect the Hour”.
DRESS OF MEN AND WOMEN
 “Women would dress like men”, and we already see them
today with trousers, jacket and, perhaps, a tie; and “women
would be dressed and yet be naked”, and this prophecy, also,
is now fulfilled. When women walk in public “dressed, yet
naked”, as they do today.
 “Men would dress like women”, and already this sign also
has come to pass. Almost no one can tell that ‘she’, the so-
called ‘crossdresser’, is really a man;
 “Women would arrange their hair to look like the hump of a
camel”, and this sign has already occurred, we see it
everyday;
HOMOSEXUALITY AND LESBIANISM
 • Homosexuality (and lesbianism) would
become commonplace, and that is now
happening before our very eyes.
 Social acceptance and legal protection for this
abominable sexual perversion is gaining
ground.
 Indeed those who hold fast to the divine
prohibition of such sexual perversion are now
demonized as a people who suffer from a
disease called ‘homophobia’;
FORNICATION AND ADULTERY
 Marriage itself now seems destined
to become obsolete;
 Fornication and adultery would
become commonplace, that, also,
appears to have already been
fulfilled in a modern world.
 Virginity and marital fidelity are
becoming old-fashioned;
 Children born outside of marriage
have become commonplace.
IMBALANCE IN THE NUMBER
OF MEN AND WOMEN
 • Disproportion in balance of men and women to such an extent that “one
man would have to maintain (not marry) fifty women”.
 That is yet to occur but could be linked to the impact on male sperm
production of such things as environmental pollution and genetically
modified food.
EXCESSIVE USE OF ALCOHOL AND NARCOTICS
 Universal consumption of alcoholic beverages (and narcotics), this
“mother of all evils” has already become a horrendous plague.
 No one is safe from the drivers under the influence;
 The unborn baby drinks (and gets narcotics) when his mother
drinks or uses narcotics and suffers unimaginably.
 People get drunk, and then behave in public like animals or even
worse.
PREVALENCE OF RIBA OR INTEREST BASED TRANSACTIONS
 Universal consumption of Riba (i.e., money
lent on interest, and transactions which ‘rip
off’ people through deception in business,
etc.)
 Around the world today Riba in modern
banking and insurance, as well as in the
monetary system, has already taken total
control over the market and over economic
life.
PREVALENCE OF VIOLENCE AND MURDER
 • Such prevalence of random killing,
murder and violence that “a killer would
not know why he is killing and the one
who is killed would not know why he is
being killed”.
 “Every age is followed by one which
would be worse”.
 Already around the world senseless
random killing has arrived and is
constantly escalating.
RELIGIOUS KNOWLEDGE WILL DISAPPEAR
 “Religious knowledge would disappear”, since the rightly-guided scholars of Islam are
demonized, marginalized, “banned”, or declared to be “great security risks”.
 Only those scholars who submit to those who control power are allowed the unfettered
freedom to preach a sanitized cosmetic version of Islam acceptable to the godless rulers of
the world.
 Institutions of Islamic learning are forced to submit to the control of those waging war on
Islam.
 If they do not submit, they are shut down.
 Students are prohibited from studying Islam in certain so-called Islamic Republics;
DEATH OF TRUE SCHOLARS
NOTHING WOULD REMAIN OF TRUE ISLAM AND QURAN
 “Nothing would remain of Islam but the name, and nothing would remain of the Qur’an but
the traces (of its writing)
 It means the Qur’an would not be studied with understanding, no one would follow its
guidance, it would be recited mechanically etc.
 Masajid (mosques) would be grand structures but would be devoid of guidance.
 The Ulama (religious scholars of Islam) would be the worst people beneath the sky. From
them would emerge Fitnah (trials) and they would be the centers of Fitnah (since they
betray Islam)”.
 The evidence of such is overwhelming. The Islamic Khilafah (Caliphate) has been long
destroyed, Zakat is no longer collected and distributed by the state and money itself is now
corrupted.
TIME WILL MOVE SWIFTLY
 Abu Hurairah said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah
be upon him) said: “The Hour will not begin until time passes quickly, so a
year will be like a month, and a month will be like a week, and a week will be
like a day, and a day will be like an hour, and an hour will be like the burning
of a braid of palm leaves.” (Ahmad)
 Already the perception of swiftly moving time is a universal experience;
MEANING OF THE PHRASE TAQAARUB AL-ZAMAAN (TIME
PASSING MORE QUICKLY).
 A- The metaphorical meaning:
 It means barakah (blessing) will disappear from time, which is something that started a long time
ago.
 This was the view favored by al-Qaadi ‘Iyaad, al-Nawawi and al-Haafiz ibn Hajar (RA)
 It also means speed of travel between distant places, so that it may be regarded as time passing more
quickly. Distances that took months to cross in the past do not take more than a number of hours
nowadays. (Sheikh Bin Baaz in his commentary on Fathul Bari page 2/522)
 B- Literal meaning-
 Time will literally become shorter, based on what is said in the hadeeth.
 it has not started yet, but it may be one of the things that will happen when the Hour is at hand. (Al-
Suyooti said something similar in al-Haawi li’l-Fataawi -1/44)
SLAVE WOMAN WILL GIVE BIRTH TO HER MISTRESS
 There are different interpretations of this hadeeth:
 Many scholars have interpreted this Hadith stating that it means that
children will become so bad mannered and insolent towards their parents
that they treat their parents as though they were their slaves - and this is
what we see in today’s society.
 The view of Islamic Scholar Sheikh Imran Nazar Hosein is that it refers to
surrogate mothers. It is a woman who agrees to become impregnated and
carry a baby for another couple for money. She agrees to give the baby to
the couple shortly after birth. This can be done using the sperm of the male
and the egg of the female or with the egg of the surrogate.
BAREFOOTED SHEPHERDS WILL BOAST BY BUILDING TOWERS
 “Naked barefooted shepherds would vie with one another in the
construction of high-rise buildings”.
 This is already being fulfilled when wealth is wasted in grandiose
and expensive construction projects commissioned by people who
hanker for visible symbols of status in a modern world.
 Burj Kahlifa in Dubai and now construction of a taller tower in
Jeddah are examples of these buildings.
 These buildings are for recognition as the rich boast to be
‘somebody’ and the poor as ‘nobody’
MAJOR SIGNS
 Hudhayfah ibn Usayd Ghifari (RA) the companion of the Prophet(SAW) said:
 “Allah’s Messenger came to us all of a sudden as we were (busy in a discussion). He
asked: What are you discussing? (The Companions) replied: We are discussing (the
subject of) the Last Hour.
 Thereupon he said: It will not come until you see ten signs. And (in this connection)
he made a mention of the ‘smoke’, ‘Dajjal’, the ‘beast’, the ‘rising of the sun from
the west’, the ‘descent of Jesus son of Mary’, ‘Gog and Magog’, ‘sinking of the earth
in three places, one in the east, one in the west and one in Arabia’. Then a ‘fire
would burn forth from Yemen, and would drive people to the place of their
assembly’ (i.e., the place where mankind will be assembled for judgment).”
(Sahih Muslim)

2 CATEGORIES OF MAJOR SIGNS
 Ibn Hajar, has divided the major signs into two main categories:
 A- Signs that occur on this earth, without the nature of this earth changing completely. These
are signs that should clearly awaken the people and drive them to repent to God. During those
signs, there is no ultimate distinguishing between the believer and the disbeliever nor is there
any unquestionable occurrence in this creation that makes it clear that the Resurrection is at
hand. The signs of this category include the coming of the Dajjaal, the return of Jesus, Gog and
Magog and the landslides.
 B- Signs that leave no doubt as to the actual occurring of the Resurrection and the end of this
Creation as humans know it now. In addition, there will be a distinguishing of the believer from
the disbeliever. Hence, during and after these signs, there will be no repentance or returning to
God. The signs in this category would include the appearance of the beast, the smoke and the
rising of the sun from the West.
 When these signs begin to occur, one will be following up the other at a relatively fast pace. The
Prophet said: “The signs are like beads strung on a string. If the string breaks, they [quickly]
follow one after the other.” (Musnad Ahmad)
1- DAJJAL (FALSE MESSIAH)
 There are numerous hadeeth of the Prophet concerning the coming of the
Dajjaal or the false Messiah.
 These hadeeth demonstrate what a great trial and temptation this person is
going to be for all humans, believers and disbelievers alike.
 The Prophet said: “There has never been a prophet who has not warned the
Nation of that one-eyed liar (the Dajjaal).” (Saheeh Al-Bukhari)
 Prophet, as recorded in authentic hadeeth, used to seek refuge in God
during his prayers from the trials of the false messiah.
AHADITH CONCERNING DAJJAL
 Ibn Umar narrated that God’s Messenger made a mention of Dajjaal in the
presence of the people and said: “God is not one-eyed and behold that
Dajjaal is blind in the right eye and his eye would be like a floating grape.”
 In another hadeeth recorded by Imam Muslim and others, the Prophet
said: “There would be written three (Arabic)
letters: Kaaf] Faa and Raa These three letters in this order form the basis
for Arabic word “Kaafir” which means disbeliever, between the eyes of Dajjal.
 Prophet said: “The Dajjaal would have with him water and fire and his fire
would have the effect of cold water and his water would have the effect of
fire, so don’t put yourself to ruin.”
DETAIL ACCOUNT OF DAJJAL
 Abu Saeed al-Khudri reported that God’s Messenger one day gave a detailed account of the Dajjaal,
and in that he mentioned the following:
 “He would come but would not be allowed to enter the mountain passes to Medina. So he will come
to stop at some tracts of land (which contain high concentrations of salt and wherein seepage occurs
causing them to be barren) adjacent to the city of Medina, and a person who would come out (to
where the Dajjaal is) and say to him, ‘I bear testimony to the fact that you are the Dajjaal about whom
God’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) had informed us.’ The Dajjaal would then say (to his
followers), ‘What would be your opinion if I were to kill this (person) and then bring him back to life,
even then would you harbor some doubt in this matter?’ They would respond, ‘No.’ He would then
kill (the man) and then bring him back to life. When he would bring that person back to life, he would
say, ‘By God, I had no better proof of the fact (that you are a Dajjaal) than at the present time.’ The
Dajjaal would then make an attempt to kill him (again) but he would not be able to do so.”
2- YAJUJ AND MAJUJ (GOG AND MAGOG)
Until when [the dam of] Gog and Magog has been opened and they, from every
elevation, descend.
And [when] the true promise has approached; then suddenly the eyes of those who
disbelieved will be staring [in horror, while they say], "O woe to us; we had been
unmindful of this; rather, we were wrongdoers.” (Anbia, 21:96,97)
YAJUJ AND MAJUJ AND WALL OF DHUL QARNAIN
 Gog and Magog or Yaʾjuj wa Maʾjuj (Arabic: ‫أجوج‬َ‫ي‬‫أجوج‬َ‫م‬ َ‫و‬) refers to a tribe or tribes
mentioned in the Qur'an and the religious texts of Judaism and Christianity.
 "Gog" and "Magog" are characterized in religious texts as a cruel group who harassed and
abused others and plundered their possessions.
 On the Qur'anic account, Dhu l-Qarnayn constructed a wall, at the request of people who
were oppressed by "Gog" and "Magog", in order to protect them against their aggression.
The wall was known as "Sadd Dhu l-Qarnayn" (the Wall of Dhu l-Qarnayn) or the ”Wall of
Gog and Magog".
 Some people have speculated that the wall is located in northern Georgia.
 The Qur'an as well as the religious texts of Christianity and Judaism have referred to the
destruction of the wall and the renewed riot of "Gog" and "Magog" as an event in End Time.
WHO ARE YAJUJ AND MAJUJ
 There are several accounts regarding the identity of "Gog" and "Magog":
 Tribes residing in northern Asia: In Islamic sources, "Gog" and "Magog" refers to tribes
residing in northern Asia who were engaged in murder and plunder of the possessions of other tribes.
According to these sources, the area of their residence ranged from northeastern Asia, that
is, Tibet and China, to Arctic Ocean, and from the west to Turkmenistan. Thus, some people take the
word, "Gog" and "Magog", to be derived from the Chinese word, "Mongok" or "Monchok", which has
transformed into "Ya'juj wa Ma'juj" in Hebrew and Arabic, and into "Gog" and "Magog" in Greek.
 Another title for Mongols: Some people have speculated that "Gog" and "Magog" were the
same as the Mongolpeople who lived in northeastern Caspian Sea and invaded nearby regions, such
as Transoxiana, Armenia, and Azerbaijan as well as farther regions, such as China and the Indian
Subcontinent. The Great Wall of China and the Dam of Dhu l-Qarnayn were constructed in order to
block their progress. Thus, the riot of "Gog" and "Magog" in the End Time, which is mentioned in
the Qur'an, has been interpreted as the invasion of the Mongols in the 7th/13thcentury.
YAJUJ AND MAJUJ MENTIONED IN QURAN AND OTHER
SCRIPTURES
 The Quranic Account-The Qur'an has referred to Gog and Magog in Sura
al-Kahf, verses 93-98 and Sura al-Anbiya', verse 96 as people who caused
corruption in the land and harmed others. In Sura al-Anbiya', the riot of
"Gog" and "Magog" is mentioned as an indication of the End Time.
 Their riot in the End Time is also prognosticated in the Book of Ezekiel in
the Old Testament and the Book of Revelation of John in the New Testament
THEY WILL PASS THE LAKE OF TIBERIAS (SEA OF GALILEE) DRINKING ALL
THE WATER THEY PASS
3- SMOKE
 Allah Most High states, “So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall
bring a manifest smoke covering the people; this is a painful chastisement.”
[44: 10-11]
 The Prophet (SAW) said, “The Hour will not rise until you have seen ten signs:
the rising of the sun from the west, the smoke, the beast…” [Muslim]
SMOKE
 There is a difference of opinion regarding whether the “smoke”
mentioned in the verse of the Qur’an refers to the smoke that was foretold
as one of the signs of the Hour.
 `Abdullah ibn Mas`ud was of the opinion that it did not, while ibn `Abbas,
`Ali, ibn `Umar, and others affirmed that it referred to the same smoke
mentioned in the Prophetic narratives. [Nawawi, Sharh Sahih Muslim;
Qurtubi, Jami` al-Ahkam al-Qur’an]
 Imam Qurtubi mentions that the smoke will cover the earth for a period
of forty days, effecting both the believers and disbelievers.
 The former will be effected as if suffering from a common cold, whereas the
latter will suffer harder. [Jami` al-Ahkam al-Qur’an]
4- EARTHLY BEAST
 Allah Most High states, “We shall bring forth for them out of the earth a
beast that shall speak unto them.” [27: 82]
 The Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, “The first of the
signs [the Hour] to appear will be the rising of the sun from the west and the
appearance of the Beast before the people in the forenoon.” [Muslim]
EARTHLY BEAST
There scholars differed greatly regarding the details related to the Beast.
 (a) Appearance: Some scholars, such as Imam Qurtubi, held that the beast is the she-camel
of the Prophet Salih (Allah bless him). Others stated that it was an animal that is a hybrid of
many different animals. Another opinion states that it is an actual human being, which is a
very weak opinion. [Qurtubi, Tadkhira]
 (b) Place of Emergence: Some stated that the Beast will emerge from Makka, basing it on a
narration of Hudhayfa (RA). Others stated that it will emerge from a desert, then disappear,
then emerge from a village, then disappear, then finally from the Masjid al-Haram in Makka.
There is another opinion that states it will emerge from Ta’if. [Qurtubi, Tadkhira; Alusi, Ruh
al-Ma`ani]
EARTHLY BEAST
 (c) It’s Speech: The Beast will address the people with the words of Allah, “Mankind did not believe in
our signs.” [27: 82] Others stated, quoting ibn `Abbas, that “speaking” refers to the action of the Beast
in differentiating the believers and disbelievers.
 (d) It’s Role: The Beast will be tasked to differentiate the believers from the disbelievers. Abu Hurayra
(RA) narrates that the Prophet (SAW) said, “The Beast of the earth will emerge and have with it the
staff of Moses and the ring of Solomon.” [Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, Musnad Ahmad] It will use these to
mark off the believers from the disbelievers. [Qurtubi, Jami` al-Ahkam al-Qur’an]
 An important point to note is that many of the opinions regarding the beast may not have sound
basis in the texts.
EARTHLY BEAST
 As such, believing in these subtle details is not necessary, except that which
has come in the authentic narratives of the Prophet (SAW). This includes,:
1. first and foremost, believing in the coming of the Beast itself, a point
established decisively in the Qur’an, as well as
2. It being a sign of the Last Hour,
3. Its speaking to people, and
4. Its task of differentiating the believers from the disbelievers.
5- SUN RISING FROM THE WEST
 Prophet (SAW) said, “The hour will not be established till
the sun rises from the West; and when it rises (from the
West) and the people see it, they all will believe. And
that is (the time) when no good will it do to a soul to
believe then.” Then he recited the complete verse
(6:158). (Bukhari)
 Prophet said: “He who seeks repentance (from the Lord)
before the rising of the sun from the west (before the
Day of Resurrection), God turns to him with Mercy.”
SUN RISE FROM THE WEST
 Prophet said: “When three things appear faith will not
benefit one who has not previously believed or has
derived no good from his faith: the rising of the sun
in its place of setting, the Dajjaal, and the beast of the
earth.
 Prophet said: “The first sign would be the
appearance of the sun from the west, the appearance
of the beast before the people in the forenoon and
which of the two happens first, the second one would
follow immediately after that.” (Muslim)
3 SINK HOLES OR MAJOR LANDSLIDES
 In a hadeeth of Prophet Muhammad, among
the major signs of the Day of Judgment are the
three landslides that will occur.
 One will occur in the East, one in the West and
one in the Arabian Peninsula.
 Not much further information has been given
concerning these events—and therefore not
much can be added.
IBN HAJAR’S EXPLANATION
 The well-known hadeeth scholar ibn Hajar does note that
landslides are a well-known occurrence and have
occurred often. Therefore, he says, it is likely that the
nature of these three landslides which will occur shortly
before the Day of Judgment will be of a much greater
magnitude and severity, setting them apart from what
occurs customarily in this world.[1] And Allah alone
knows best.
 Ibn Hajar, Fath al-Baari, vol. 13, p. 84.
GREAT FIRE FROM YEMEN
 Muslim records a hadeeth in which the Prophet
stated the ten major signs and it concludes
with, “at the end of which fire would burn forth
from the Yemen, and would drive people to
the place of their assembly.”
 One can only imagine the intensity of this fire
and the shear horror and fear that the
individuals alive at that time will experience.
 After this, all that will be left is for the masses
of humanity to be resurrected and to face the
reckoning of their Lord.
10-DESCENT OF JESUS SON OF MARY
4:159
And there is none of the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), but must believe in him (Jesus)
before his death. And on the Day of Resurrection, he (Jesus) will be a witness against them.” (Quran
4:157-159)
 This verse refers to Jesus’ worldly death after he returns to earth. At that time, the Jews and
Christians will finally believe in him as a Messenger of God and a human being only, as that
will be the only option possible at that time.
 In fact, some scholars state that part of the wisdom in Jesus’ return is the final and
undeniable refutation of the Jews’ claim that they had crucified him and to bring an end to
the false claim that he was the Son of God.
DESCENT OF JESUS
 There are numerous hadeeth which speak about the coming of
Jesus during the last days of this world. They give a description of
many of the acts of Jesus after his return.
 Prophet (SAW) stated: “By Him in Whose hand is my life, the son
of Mary (may peace be upon him) will soon descend among you
as a just judge. He will break crosses, kill swine and
abolish Jizyah[1] and the wealth will pour forth to such an extent
that no one will accept it.” (BUKHARI)
JESUS WILL STAY ON EARTH FOR 7 YEARS
 The Prophet said: “Then people would live for seven years that there
would be no rancor between two persons.
 Then God would send cold wind from the side of Syria that none
would survive upon the earth having a speck of good in him or faith in
him but he would die, so much so that even if some amongst you
were to enter the innermost part of the mountain, this wind would
reach that place also and that would cause his death.”
 He further said, “Only the wicked people would survive and they
would be as careless as birds with the characteristics of beasts. They
would never appreciate the good nor condemn evil.” (Muslim)
MUSLIMS WILL BE LED BY IMAM MAHDI
 At the time of Jesus’ return, the Muslims will be lead by the Mahdi (A guided
leader), as is mentioned in various hadeeth, such as the Prophet’s words:
 “What will be your state when the son of Mary descends among you and
there will be an Imam among you?” (Al-Bukhari, Muslim)
 In another hadeeth in Saheeh Muslim, it reads: “A section of my people will
not cease fighting for the Truth and will prevail till the Day of Resurrection.”
He then said, “Jesus son of Mary would then descend and their (Muslims’)
commander would invite him to come and lead them in prayer, but he
would say, ‘No, some among you are commanders over some (among
you). This is the honor from God for this Nation.’”

Signs of day of judgment [autosaved]

  • 1.
  • 2. SIGNS ARE REMINDERS  ُ‫ه‬َ‫ي‬ِ‫ت‬ْ‫أ‬َ‫ت‬ ‫ن‬َ‫أ‬ َ‫َة‬‫ع‬‫ا‬‫ا‬‫س‬‫ال‬ ‫ا‬‫َّل‬ِ‫إ‬ َ‫ون‬ُ‫ر‬ُ‫ظ‬‫ن‬َ‫ي‬ ْ‫ل‬َ‫ه‬َ‫ف‬ۖ ً‫ة‬َ‫ت‬ْ‫غ‬َ‫ب‬ ‫م‬َ‫ر‬ْ‫ش‬َ‫أ‬ َ‫ء‬‫ا‬َ‫ج‬ ْ‫د‬َ‫ق‬َ‫ف‬ۚ ‫ا‬َ‫ه‬ُ‫ط‬‫ا‬ ‫ى‬‫ا‬‫ن‬َ‫أ‬َ‫ف‬ْ‫م‬ُ‫ه‬‫ا‬َ‫ر‬ْ‫ك‬ِ‫ذ‬ ْ‫م‬ُ‫ه‬ْ‫ت‬َ‫ء‬‫ا‬َ‫ج‬ ‫ا‬َ‫ذ‬ِ‫إ‬ ْ‫م‬ُ‫ه‬َ‫ل‬–  Then do they await except that the Hour should come upon them unexpectedly? But already there have come [some of] its indications. Then what good to them, when it has come, will be their remembrance?
  • 3. PURPOSE OF STUDY OF THIS SUBJECT  No one can know when the Day of Judgment will occur.  Allah (SWT) has mercifully taught His messengers some of the signs  These signs alert one to the fact that the Hour is approaching.  These signs serve as reminder for those who live at a time distant from the Prophet and who did not experience first hand his teaching and example.  These signs reinforce one’s belief in the Prophet(SAW).  They should revive the heart of the person and make him recall that Allah has complete knowledge and so what he is doing on this earth and to where all this is heading.  This consciousness by witnessing the Signs of the Hour, should make the person worship and fear God knowing full well that He is seeing him. This is the superior level of faith known as ihsaan.
  • 4. TWO CATEGORIES OF SIGNS The signs of the Hour can be divided into: two types. A- MINOR SIGNS- These signs occur as part of the changes in everyday life. B- MAJOR SIGNS- These are the extraordinary or supernatural events that will occur just before the actual Hour.
  • 5. MINOR SIGNS LEADERSHIP OF THE WICKED-  Prophet (SAW) prophesized that: “People would follow a way of life other than mine, and give guidance other than mine”…  “I fear for my people only the leaders who lead men astray”…  “Before the Last Hour there will be great liars, so beware of them”…  “When the most wicked member of a tribe becomes its ruler, and the most worthless member of a community becomes its leader, and a man is respected through fear of the evil he may do, and leadership is given to people who are unworthy of it, expect the Hour”.
  • 6. DRESS OF MEN AND WOMEN  “Women would dress like men”, and we already see them today with trousers, jacket and, perhaps, a tie; and “women would be dressed and yet be naked”, and this prophecy, also, is now fulfilled. When women walk in public “dressed, yet naked”, as they do today.  “Men would dress like women”, and already this sign also has come to pass. Almost no one can tell that ‘she’, the so- called ‘crossdresser’, is really a man;  “Women would arrange their hair to look like the hump of a camel”, and this sign has already occurred, we see it everyday;
  • 7. HOMOSEXUALITY AND LESBIANISM  • Homosexuality (and lesbianism) would become commonplace, and that is now happening before our very eyes.  Social acceptance and legal protection for this abominable sexual perversion is gaining ground.  Indeed those who hold fast to the divine prohibition of such sexual perversion are now demonized as a people who suffer from a disease called ‘homophobia’;
  • 8. FORNICATION AND ADULTERY  Marriage itself now seems destined to become obsolete;  Fornication and adultery would become commonplace, that, also, appears to have already been fulfilled in a modern world.  Virginity and marital fidelity are becoming old-fashioned;  Children born outside of marriage have become commonplace.
  • 9. IMBALANCE IN THE NUMBER OF MEN AND WOMEN  • Disproportion in balance of men and women to such an extent that “one man would have to maintain (not marry) fifty women”.  That is yet to occur but could be linked to the impact on male sperm production of such things as environmental pollution and genetically modified food.
  • 10. EXCESSIVE USE OF ALCOHOL AND NARCOTICS  Universal consumption of alcoholic beverages (and narcotics), this “mother of all evils” has already become a horrendous plague.  No one is safe from the drivers under the influence;  The unborn baby drinks (and gets narcotics) when his mother drinks or uses narcotics and suffers unimaginably.  People get drunk, and then behave in public like animals or even worse.
  • 11. PREVALENCE OF RIBA OR INTEREST BASED TRANSACTIONS  Universal consumption of Riba (i.e., money lent on interest, and transactions which ‘rip off’ people through deception in business, etc.)  Around the world today Riba in modern banking and insurance, as well as in the monetary system, has already taken total control over the market and over economic life.
  • 12. PREVALENCE OF VIOLENCE AND MURDER  • Such prevalence of random killing, murder and violence that “a killer would not know why he is killing and the one who is killed would not know why he is being killed”.  “Every age is followed by one which would be worse”.  Already around the world senseless random killing has arrived and is constantly escalating.
  • 13. RELIGIOUS KNOWLEDGE WILL DISAPPEAR  “Religious knowledge would disappear”, since the rightly-guided scholars of Islam are demonized, marginalized, “banned”, or declared to be “great security risks”.  Only those scholars who submit to those who control power are allowed the unfettered freedom to preach a sanitized cosmetic version of Islam acceptable to the godless rulers of the world.  Institutions of Islamic learning are forced to submit to the control of those waging war on Islam.  If they do not submit, they are shut down.  Students are prohibited from studying Islam in certain so-called Islamic Republics;
  • 14. DEATH OF TRUE SCHOLARS
  • 15. NOTHING WOULD REMAIN OF TRUE ISLAM AND QURAN  “Nothing would remain of Islam but the name, and nothing would remain of the Qur’an but the traces (of its writing)  It means the Qur’an would not be studied with understanding, no one would follow its guidance, it would be recited mechanically etc.  Masajid (mosques) would be grand structures but would be devoid of guidance.  The Ulama (religious scholars of Islam) would be the worst people beneath the sky. From them would emerge Fitnah (trials) and they would be the centers of Fitnah (since they betray Islam)”.  The evidence of such is overwhelming. The Islamic Khilafah (Caliphate) has been long destroyed, Zakat is no longer collected and distributed by the state and money itself is now corrupted.
  • 16. TIME WILL MOVE SWIFTLY  Abu Hurairah said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The Hour will not begin until time passes quickly, so a year will be like a month, and a month will be like a week, and a week will be like a day, and a day will be like an hour, and an hour will be like the burning of a braid of palm leaves.” (Ahmad)  Already the perception of swiftly moving time is a universal experience;
  • 17. MEANING OF THE PHRASE TAQAARUB AL-ZAMAAN (TIME PASSING MORE QUICKLY).  A- The metaphorical meaning:  It means barakah (blessing) will disappear from time, which is something that started a long time ago.  This was the view favored by al-Qaadi ‘Iyaad, al-Nawawi and al-Haafiz ibn Hajar (RA)  It also means speed of travel between distant places, so that it may be regarded as time passing more quickly. Distances that took months to cross in the past do not take more than a number of hours nowadays. (Sheikh Bin Baaz in his commentary on Fathul Bari page 2/522)  B- Literal meaning-  Time will literally become shorter, based on what is said in the hadeeth.  it has not started yet, but it may be one of the things that will happen when the Hour is at hand. (Al- Suyooti said something similar in al-Haawi li’l-Fataawi -1/44)
  • 18. SLAVE WOMAN WILL GIVE BIRTH TO HER MISTRESS  There are different interpretations of this hadeeth:  Many scholars have interpreted this Hadith stating that it means that children will become so bad mannered and insolent towards their parents that they treat their parents as though they were their slaves - and this is what we see in today’s society.  The view of Islamic Scholar Sheikh Imran Nazar Hosein is that it refers to surrogate mothers. It is a woman who agrees to become impregnated and carry a baby for another couple for money. She agrees to give the baby to the couple shortly after birth. This can be done using the sperm of the male and the egg of the female or with the egg of the surrogate.
  • 19. BAREFOOTED SHEPHERDS WILL BOAST BY BUILDING TOWERS  “Naked barefooted shepherds would vie with one another in the construction of high-rise buildings”.  This is already being fulfilled when wealth is wasted in grandiose and expensive construction projects commissioned by people who hanker for visible symbols of status in a modern world.  Burj Kahlifa in Dubai and now construction of a taller tower in Jeddah are examples of these buildings.  These buildings are for recognition as the rich boast to be ‘somebody’ and the poor as ‘nobody’
  • 20. MAJOR SIGNS  Hudhayfah ibn Usayd Ghifari (RA) the companion of the Prophet(SAW) said:  “Allah’s Messenger came to us all of a sudden as we were (busy in a discussion). He asked: What are you discussing? (The Companions) replied: We are discussing (the subject of) the Last Hour.  Thereupon he said: It will not come until you see ten signs. And (in this connection) he made a mention of the ‘smoke’, ‘Dajjal’, the ‘beast’, the ‘rising of the sun from the west’, the ‘descent of Jesus son of Mary’, ‘Gog and Magog’, ‘sinking of the earth in three places, one in the east, one in the west and one in Arabia’. Then a ‘fire would burn forth from Yemen, and would drive people to the place of their assembly’ (i.e., the place where mankind will be assembled for judgment).” (Sahih Muslim)
  • 21. MAJOR SIGNS Dajjal or Anti-Christ, Gog and Magog, Smoke, Earthly beast The sun rises from the west, Sinkhole in west Sinkhole in east Sinkhole in Arabia A fire from Yemen Descent of Jesus
  • 22. 2 CATEGORIES OF MAJOR SIGNS  Ibn Hajar, has divided the major signs into two main categories:  A- Signs that occur on this earth, without the nature of this earth changing completely. These are signs that should clearly awaken the people and drive them to repent to God. During those signs, there is no ultimate distinguishing between the believer and the disbeliever nor is there any unquestionable occurrence in this creation that makes it clear that the Resurrection is at hand. The signs of this category include the coming of the Dajjaal, the return of Jesus, Gog and Magog and the landslides.  B- Signs that leave no doubt as to the actual occurring of the Resurrection and the end of this Creation as humans know it now. In addition, there will be a distinguishing of the believer from the disbeliever. Hence, during and after these signs, there will be no repentance or returning to God. The signs in this category would include the appearance of the beast, the smoke and the rising of the sun from the West.  When these signs begin to occur, one will be following up the other at a relatively fast pace. The Prophet said: “The signs are like beads strung on a string. If the string breaks, they [quickly] follow one after the other.” (Musnad Ahmad)
  • 23. 1- DAJJAL (FALSE MESSIAH)  There are numerous hadeeth of the Prophet concerning the coming of the Dajjaal or the false Messiah.  These hadeeth demonstrate what a great trial and temptation this person is going to be for all humans, believers and disbelievers alike.  The Prophet said: “There has never been a prophet who has not warned the Nation of that one-eyed liar (the Dajjaal).” (Saheeh Al-Bukhari)  Prophet, as recorded in authentic hadeeth, used to seek refuge in God during his prayers from the trials of the false messiah.
  • 24. AHADITH CONCERNING DAJJAL  Ibn Umar narrated that God’s Messenger made a mention of Dajjaal in the presence of the people and said: “God is not one-eyed and behold that Dajjaal is blind in the right eye and his eye would be like a floating grape.”  In another hadeeth recorded by Imam Muslim and others, the Prophet said: “There would be written three (Arabic) letters: Kaaf] Faa and Raa These three letters in this order form the basis for Arabic word “Kaafir” which means disbeliever, between the eyes of Dajjal.  Prophet said: “The Dajjaal would have with him water and fire and his fire would have the effect of cold water and his water would have the effect of fire, so don’t put yourself to ruin.”
  • 25. DETAIL ACCOUNT OF DAJJAL  Abu Saeed al-Khudri reported that God’s Messenger one day gave a detailed account of the Dajjaal, and in that he mentioned the following:  “He would come but would not be allowed to enter the mountain passes to Medina. So he will come to stop at some tracts of land (which contain high concentrations of salt and wherein seepage occurs causing them to be barren) adjacent to the city of Medina, and a person who would come out (to where the Dajjaal is) and say to him, ‘I bear testimony to the fact that you are the Dajjaal about whom God’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) had informed us.’ The Dajjaal would then say (to his followers), ‘What would be your opinion if I were to kill this (person) and then bring him back to life, even then would you harbor some doubt in this matter?’ They would respond, ‘No.’ He would then kill (the man) and then bring him back to life. When he would bring that person back to life, he would say, ‘By God, I had no better proof of the fact (that you are a Dajjaal) than at the present time.’ The Dajjaal would then make an attempt to kill him (again) but he would not be able to do so.”
  • 26. 2- YAJUJ AND MAJUJ (GOG AND MAGOG) Until when [the dam of] Gog and Magog has been opened and they, from every elevation, descend. And [when] the true promise has approached; then suddenly the eyes of those who disbelieved will be staring [in horror, while they say], "O woe to us; we had been unmindful of this; rather, we were wrongdoers.” (Anbia, 21:96,97)
  • 27. YAJUJ AND MAJUJ AND WALL OF DHUL QARNAIN  Gog and Magog or Yaʾjuj wa Maʾjuj (Arabic: ‫أجوج‬َ‫ي‬‫أجوج‬َ‫م‬ َ‫و‬) refers to a tribe or tribes mentioned in the Qur'an and the religious texts of Judaism and Christianity.  "Gog" and "Magog" are characterized in religious texts as a cruel group who harassed and abused others and plundered their possessions.  On the Qur'anic account, Dhu l-Qarnayn constructed a wall, at the request of people who were oppressed by "Gog" and "Magog", in order to protect them against their aggression. The wall was known as "Sadd Dhu l-Qarnayn" (the Wall of Dhu l-Qarnayn) or the ”Wall of Gog and Magog".  Some people have speculated that the wall is located in northern Georgia.  The Qur'an as well as the religious texts of Christianity and Judaism have referred to the destruction of the wall and the renewed riot of "Gog" and "Magog" as an event in End Time.
  • 28. WHO ARE YAJUJ AND MAJUJ  There are several accounts regarding the identity of "Gog" and "Magog":  Tribes residing in northern Asia: In Islamic sources, "Gog" and "Magog" refers to tribes residing in northern Asia who were engaged in murder and plunder of the possessions of other tribes. According to these sources, the area of their residence ranged from northeastern Asia, that is, Tibet and China, to Arctic Ocean, and from the west to Turkmenistan. Thus, some people take the word, "Gog" and "Magog", to be derived from the Chinese word, "Mongok" or "Monchok", which has transformed into "Ya'juj wa Ma'juj" in Hebrew and Arabic, and into "Gog" and "Magog" in Greek.  Another title for Mongols: Some people have speculated that "Gog" and "Magog" were the same as the Mongolpeople who lived in northeastern Caspian Sea and invaded nearby regions, such as Transoxiana, Armenia, and Azerbaijan as well as farther regions, such as China and the Indian Subcontinent. The Great Wall of China and the Dam of Dhu l-Qarnayn were constructed in order to block their progress. Thus, the riot of "Gog" and "Magog" in the End Time, which is mentioned in the Qur'an, has been interpreted as the invasion of the Mongols in the 7th/13thcentury.
  • 29. YAJUJ AND MAJUJ MENTIONED IN QURAN AND OTHER SCRIPTURES  The Quranic Account-The Qur'an has referred to Gog and Magog in Sura al-Kahf, verses 93-98 and Sura al-Anbiya', verse 96 as people who caused corruption in the land and harmed others. In Sura al-Anbiya', the riot of "Gog" and "Magog" is mentioned as an indication of the End Time.  Their riot in the End Time is also prognosticated in the Book of Ezekiel in the Old Testament and the Book of Revelation of John in the New Testament

  • 34. SMOKE  There is a difference of opinion regarding whether the “smoke” mentioned in the verse of the Qur’an refers to the smoke that was foretold as one of the signs of the Hour.  `Abdullah ibn Mas`ud was of the opinion that it did not, while ibn `Abbas, `Ali, ibn `Umar, and others affirmed that it referred to the same smoke mentioned in the Prophetic narratives. [Nawawi, Sharh Sahih Muslim; Qurtubi, Jami` al-Ahkam al-Qur’an]  Imam Qurtubi mentions that the smoke will cover the earth for a period of forty days, effecting both the believers and disbelievers.  The former will be effected as if suffering from a common cold, whereas the latter will suffer harder. [Jami` al-Ahkam al-Qur’an]
  • 35. 4- EARTHLY BEAST  َ‫ن‬ْ‫ج‬َ‫ر‬ْ‫خ‬َ‫أ‬ ْ‫م‬ِ‫ه‬ْ‫ي‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬ ُ‫ل‬ ْ‫و‬َ‫ق‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬ َ‫ع‬َ‫ق‬َ‫و‬ ‫ا‬َ‫ذ‬ِ‫إ‬َ‫و‬ِ‫ض‬ْ‫ر‬َ ْ‫اْل‬ َ‫ن‬ِ‫م‬ ً‫ة‬‫ا‬‫ب‬‫َا‬‫د‬ ْ‫م‬ُ‫ه‬َ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬ َ‫ن‬ِ‫ت‬‫ا‬َ‫ي‬‫آ‬ِ‫ب‬ ‫وا‬ُ‫ن‬‫ا‬َ‫ك‬ َ‫اس‬‫ا‬‫ن‬‫ال‬ ‫ا‬‫ن‬َ‫أ‬ ْ‫م‬ُ‫ه‬ُ‫م‬ِ‫ل‬َ‫ك‬ُ‫ت‬َ‫ون‬ُ‫ن‬ِ‫ق‬‫و‬ُ‫ي‬ َ‫َّل‬ ‫ا‬-27:82  Allah Most High states, “We shall bring forth for them out of the earth a beast that shall speak unto them.” [27: 82]  The Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, “The first of the signs [the Hour] to appear will be the rising of the sun from the west and the appearance of the Beast before the people in the forenoon.” [Muslim]
  • 36. EARTHLY BEAST There scholars differed greatly regarding the details related to the Beast.  (a) Appearance: Some scholars, such as Imam Qurtubi, held that the beast is the she-camel of the Prophet Salih (Allah bless him). Others stated that it was an animal that is a hybrid of many different animals. Another opinion states that it is an actual human being, which is a very weak opinion. [Qurtubi, Tadkhira]  (b) Place of Emergence: Some stated that the Beast will emerge from Makka, basing it on a narration of Hudhayfa (RA). Others stated that it will emerge from a desert, then disappear, then emerge from a village, then disappear, then finally from the Masjid al-Haram in Makka. There is another opinion that states it will emerge from Ta’if. [Qurtubi, Tadkhira; Alusi, Ruh al-Ma`ani]
  • 37. EARTHLY BEAST  (c) It’s Speech: The Beast will address the people with the words of Allah, “Mankind did not believe in our signs.” [27: 82] Others stated, quoting ibn `Abbas, that “speaking” refers to the action of the Beast in differentiating the believers and disbelievers.  (d) It’s Role: The Beast will be tasked to differentiate the believers from the disbelievers. Abu Hurayra (RA) narrates that the Prophet (SAW) said, “The Beast of the earth will emerge and have with it the staff of Moses and the ring of Solomon.” [Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, Musnad Ahmad] It will use these to mark off the believers from the disbelievers. [Qurtubi, Jami` al-Ahkam al-Qur’an]  An important point to note is that many of the opinions regarding the beast may not have sound basis in the texts.
  • 38. EARTHLY BEAST  As such, believing in these subtle details is not necessary, except that which has come in the authentic narratives of the Prophet (SAW). This includes,: 1. first and foremost, believing in the coming of the Beast itself, a point established decisively in the Qur’an, as well as 2. It being a sign of the Last Hour, 3. Its speaking to people, and 4. Its task of differentiating the believers from the disbelievers.
  • 39. 5- SUN RISING FROM THE WEST  Prophet (SAW) said, “The hour will not be established till the sun rises from the West; and when it rises (from the West) and the people see it, they all will believe. And that is (the time) when no good will it do to a soul to believe then.” Then he recited the complete verse (6:158). (Bukhari)  Prophet said: “He who seeks repentance (from the Lord) before the rising of the sun from the west (before the Day of Resurrection), God turns to him with Mercy.”
  • 40. SUN RISE FROM THE WEST  Prophet said: “When three things appear faith will not benefit one who has not previously believed or has derived no good from his faith: the rising of the sun in its place of setting, the Dajjaal, and the beast of the earth.  Prophet said: “The first sign would be the appearance of the sun from the west, the appearance of the beast before the people in the forenoon and which of the two happens first, the second one would follow immediately after that.” (Muslim)
  • 41. 3 SINK HOLES OR MAJOR LANDSLIDES  In a hadeeth of Prophet Muhammad, among the major signs of the Day of Judgment are the three landslides that will occur.  One will occur in the East, one in the West and one in the Arabian Peninsula.  Not much further information has been given concerning these events—and therefore not much can be added.
  • 42. IBN HAJAR’S EXPLANATION  The well-known hadeeth scholar ibn Hajar does note that landslides are a well-known occurrence and have occurred often. Therefore, he says, it is likely that the nature of these three landslides which will occur shortly before the Day of Judgment will be of a much greater magnitude and severity, setting them apart from what occurs customarily in this world.[1] And Allah alone knows best.  Ibn Hajar, Fath al-Baari, vol. 13, p. 84.
  • 43. GREAT FIRE FROM YEMEN  Muslim records a hadeeth in which the Prophet stated the ten major signs and it concludes with, “at the end of which fire would burn forth from the Yemen, and would drive people to the place of their assembly.”  One can only imagine the intensity of this fire and the shear horror and fear that the individuals alive at that time will experience.  After this, all that will be left is for the masses of humanity to be resurrected and to face the reckoning of their Lord.
  • 44. 10-DESCENT OF JESUS SON OF MARY  ِ‫ت‬ ْ‫و‬َ‫م‬ َ‫ل‬ْ‫ب‬َ‫ق‬ ِ‫ه‬ِ‫ب‬ ‫ا‬‫ن‬َ‫ن‬ِ‫م‬ْ‫ؤ‬ُ‫ي‬َ‫ل‬ ‫ا‬‫َّل‬ِ‫إ‬ ِ‫ب‬‫ا‬َ‫ت‬ِ‫ك‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬ ِ‫ل‬ْ‫ه‬َ‫أ‬ ْ‫ن‬ِ‫م‬ ‫ن‬ِ‫إ‬َ‫و‬ۖ ِ‫ه‬َ‫ش‬ ْ‫م‬ِ‫ه‬ْ‫ي‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬ ُ‫ُون‬‫ك‬َ‫ي‬ ِ‫ة‬َ‫م‬‫ا‬َ‫ي‬ِ‫ق‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬ َ‫م‬ ْ‫و‬َ‫ي‬َ‫و‬‫ًا‬‫د‬‫ي‬ِ‫ه‬- 4:159 And there is none of the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), but must believe in him (Jesus) before his death. And on the Day of Resurrection, he (Jesus) will be a witness against them.” (Quran 4:157-159)  This verse refers to Jesus’ worldly death after he returns to earth. At that time, the Jews and Christians will finally believe in him as a Messenger of God and a human being only, as that will be the only option possible at that time.  In fact, some scholars state that part of the wisdom in Jesus’ return is the final and undeniable refutation of the Jews’ claim that they had crucified him and to bring an end to the false claim that he was the Son of God.
  • 45. DESCENT OF JESUS  There are numerous hadeeth which speak about the coming of Jesus during the last days of this world. They give a description of many of the acts of Jesus after his return.  Prophet (SAW) stated: “By Him in Whose hand is my life, the son of Mary (may peace be upon him) will soon descend among you as a just judge. He will break crosses, kill swine and abolish Jizyah[1] and the wealth will pour forth to such an extent that no one will accept it.” (BUKHARI)
  • 46. JESUS WILL STAY ON EARTH FOR 7 YEARS  The Prophet said: “Then people would live for seven years that there would be no rancor between two persons.  Then God would send cold wind from the side of Syria that none would survive upon the earth having a speck of good in him or faith in him but he would die, so much so that even if some amongst you were to enter the innermost part of the mountain, this wind would reach that place also and that would cause his death.”  He further said, “Only the wicked people would survive and they would be as careless as birds with the characteristics of beasts. They would never appreciate the good nor condemn evil.” (Muslim)
  • 47. MUSLIMS WILL BE LED BY IMAM MAHDI  At the time of Jesus’ return, the Muslims will be lead by the Mahdi (A guided leader), as is mentioned in various hadeeth, such as the Prophet’s words:  “What will be your state when the son of Mary descends among you and there will be an Imam among you?” (Al-Bukhari, Muslim)  In another hadeeth in Saheeh Muslim, it reads: “A section of my people will not cease fighting for the Truth and will prevail till the Day of Resurrection.” He then said, “Jesus son of Mary would then descend and their (Muslims’) commander would invite him to come and lead them in prayer, but he would say, ‘No, some among you are commanders over some (among you). This is the honor from God for this Nation.’”
