There are also posters of astrology, Frankenstein, and
Finding Nemo.
Derek is lying face down on the bed, motionless, and with
a NEUTRAL FACIAL EXPRESSION.

Alarm clock on the beside table reads: 7:02am. Derek
leisurely turns off alarm, turning off opera music.
INT. - BATHROOM MIRROR - MORNING
Derek quickly brushes his teeth.
DEREK (V.O.)

Derek, trance-like, dispenses soap on his tongue and rubs

INT. - SCHOOL BATHROOM STALL - DAY
MONA is throwing up in toilet.
INT. - OUTSIDE OF BATHROOM STALL - DAY
Derek is dressed in old fashioned
Shakespearean-like clothing, is wearing an outdated pair of
eyeglasses with no lens, and a tattered backpack. These are
the clothes he wears every day. He walks by bathroom and
hears Mona. He stops.
MONA

Tim, a tall buff guy, walks with a few other guys. They
stop to wait on Mona. The two exchange a heavy kiss and walk
away Derek spots DONNA, a female outcast. She is sitting on
the ground reading a book. They look at each other. Tim’s
FRIEND kicks the book out of her hands and the group go into
a laughing fit.

She grabs her book and walks away, looking back at
Derek every now and then.
INT. BATHROOM MIRROR - MORNING
Derek, toothbrush in mouth, messes with his hair in
the mirror. He then curiously begins to manipulate his face
with his fingers, holding his skin in a contorted position.
DEREK (V.O.)
Open your heart, to cleanse
tainted eyes. Flesh like rain, yet
it blankets all lies. Laugh at

Derek smears tooth paste on the mirror, covering his
mouthsreflection.

EXT. - CURB OUTSIDE SCHOOL - DAY
Derek is sitting under a tree, writing in his book. He
is disrupted by the sounds of Donna softly weeping. Derek
walks towards the distraught Donna, who is sitting on the
curb. She is attempting to smoke a cigarette. It’s obvious
she’s never done it before. Derek stops to help her.
DEREK
You don’t smoke do you?
DONNA

intimidating hall. He notices Donna, at the end of the hall,
looking at him. He’s sweating. Bell rings and students enter
classrooms. Derek watches Donna go inside.
Doors close. He stands in front of his classroom door.
DEREK (V.O.)
Open it. The door you little

DEREK
(trying not to stutter)No.
Naomi angrily exits the classroom. Derek abruptly turns
the other way and starts to quickly walk off, DROPPING the
rose. Naomi stares questionably at Derek.
NAOMI

He’s gone. She goes into a fit, steps on the rose and
rips posters off the wall.
NAOMI

INT. - BATHROOM STALL - SAME DAY
Eyes wide open, Derek stares into space. The time on
his wrist watch is ticking away. The ticking grows louder,

Tim and FRIEND enter. Derek is completely silent and
listens.

His mom half smiles. They continue eating.
INT. - LADDA HIGH HALL - DAY
The hall is empty. Derek stops in front of classroom
door. He reaches for the door. Circus music plays. Heart
beats loud. Breathing quickens.

INT. -CLASSROOM DOOR - DAY
Derek opens the door.
Shot cont’s into classroom.
No audio. Silence. The class curiously look at Derek.
He looks at Donna. Teacher tries to speak to him. Opera
music opens. Derek reveals the bomb that is taped on his
body. The class becomes hysterical and herd together in the
corner of the room, holding onto one another. Derek cries
tears of happiness as he stands at the front of the class.
DEREK (V.O.)
Laugh at your woes, says the

Ticking begins
Cut between shots of students and Derek, inching closer
and closer to his EYE.
Derek shuts his eye and the word HAPPY is written on
his eyelid.
Ticking stops.
