CLASSIFICATION OF MAGNETIC MATERIALS
 With respect to magnetic behavior, the magnetic materials are classified as
 Diamagnetic Material
 Paramagnetic Material
 Ferromagnetic Material
 Antiferromagnetic Material
 Ferrimagnetic Material
 Manifestation of magnetic behavior
 The equivalent atomic current loops are characterized by their magnetic
dipole moments

 Diamagnetism has its origin in the circular
charges in the orbits
 When the individual dipoles do not interact
with each other………(Paramagnetic
behavior)
 Ferromagnetic bahavior
 Antiferromagnetism or ferrimagnetism

DIAMAGNETISM
 Diamagnetic is nothing but negative magnetic substance
 The value of susceptibility for a diamagnetic and ferromagnetic material
is given by the relation,
Xm = μr – 1= M/H
 Diamagnetic has no ordinary practical uses

 Definition of paramagnetism
 If no opposing force act…....
 Weak magnetization, and small positive susceptibility
