2. What is PDHPE? PDHPE has the goal of enabling children to become happy citizens of the world who are socially, mentally, physically and spiritually healthy (Board of Studies, 2007). Unfortunately, PDHPE is often viewed to be “not as important” as other subjects such as Mathematics and English. 5. PDHPE is not just about Sport! PDHPE is not just about physical activity (although it is important). Instead, it teaches children how to live healthy, safe lives, and equips them with tools and knowledge to make informed, health-conscious and sound decisions throughout life, whilst being aware of the many influences on these decisions (e.g., the media, peers). This is taught through topics such as: Nutrition Personal safety Growth and development Peers and relationships Drug education Feelings and emotions Illness
