2. Who are you working with?
I am working with two of my friends, Diego Nuccio and JamieTilsley to create my music
video. We will be working alongside each other throughout the whole process of creating
our music video, which will include (in chronological order):The pre-production, the plan,
the production stages, the filming stages, the post production stages and finally the
editing stages.
3. Who is the artist and what is the name of the song
you have chosen to make a music video for?
We have chosen our friend Kyle Bell whom going to take our artist role and will be known
as ….We have also decided the name of the song we have chosen to create a music video
will be Untitled 03, from Kendrick Lamar’s album, Untitled Unmastered.
4. Are you going to have performance and/or
narrative in your music video?
We have decided that our music video will include both performance and narrative scenes.
In a stereotypical hip hop music video both performance and narrative is used for many
different reasons. The performance within a hip hop music video is usually incorporated in
a way which shows the artist to be powerful, rich and very confident. The narrative within
a hip hop music video is usually used to help tell a story, so the audience doesn’t have to
rely on listen to the music as much to get an idea of the story being told. This is important
for most hip hop songs as they are very fast paced and hard to keep up with (sometimes).
Also a lot of slang terms are used in hip hop songs and therefore the narrative can help
explain what the lyrics mean for people that aren’t familiar with the meanings of those
words.
5. What ideas have you come up with for your music
video so far?
We have decided that the narrative of our music video will include four characters who will
do stereotypical things there ethnicity are known for (to help explain the lyrics of the
song). This includes an Indian man,Asian Man (EasternAsian), a Black man and aWhite
man. Moreover in the white mans scene he’ll be chasing the black man around, because
the lyrics suggest the white man pesters the black man about his music and making
money off it. Moreover the performance of the song will mainly be from both the black
and white characters. The black man will be confident and rich (e.g. we decided in one
scene the black man will be chucking money around a room) whereas the white man will
be greedy but powerful, and therefore try use the black man to make money.
6. Why do you think those Ideas are appropriate for the
song you have chosen, Does it link to the lyrics?
I think the ideas are appropriate for our song because the performance of the actors is
purely used to help the audience get a better understanding of the lyrics meanings and
understandings. Also they way we will plan on representing the characters, mainly both
the black and white characters, is stereotypical and therefore the audience will get a
better understanding about the songs meaning.
7. How does your idea fit your genre?
The narrative fits the hip hop genre due to the fact the main character is black. This is
because hip hop music is often referred as a black male genre. The black man is also
portrayed to be a stereotypical hip hop artist and includes traits such as confidence and
being rich to further help him fit the genre. Moreover the white character will also fit the
genre, as the stereotypical white man within hip hop are seen to be powerful and almost
control black men, and our white character will be seen chasing the black man around and
talking about money.
