The document contains ideas for three music videos. Idea 1 is for Bruno Mars' "Lazy Song" and would show a narrative of simple home activities like sleeping and watching movies to convey the song's lazy theme. Idea 2 is for Imagine Dragons' "Believer" and would mix performance with a narrative of overcoming struggle through passion, showing the band and main character as down to earth. Idea 3 is for Passion Pit's "Sleepyhead" and would be entirely stop-motion animated, altering the performer's appearance and incorporating retro and psychedelic elements to match the band's style.
1. New Ideas
Group 4: Liam Howse, Liam Cornwall-
Tombs, Mykola Serbov and Michael Ivan
2. Idea 1: Bruno Mars - Lazy Song
1. Mainstream
2. Genre? R&B
3. Artist - who are they? what is their image? Casual look (conveys the message of the song about
being lazy, hence they aren’t too bothered about their appearance. USP? Different from many other
singers, the artist will come across as being very chill and down to earth (someone people can relate
too). How do they appeal to audience? They can relate because they are able to identify that he is
just like any other person, this is to be conveyed through many different aspects such as mise-en-
scene. How will you promote them? They will constantly feature throughout the video as this is
going to be about highlighting and showcasing the artists USPs and what type of person he is.
4. Type of music video? In the Bruno Mars version, he solely uses performance, however on our
take we want to change this into a narrative with elements of performance such as intervals with
the vocalist lip singing. We are doing this, as this will allow us to have a different take on the song
5. Idea development for video: Simple narrative of home activities being performed i.e. laying
around, watching movies, playing video games, sleeping.
Mark Ronson Rasmus Seebach
3. Idea 2: Imagine Dragons - Believer
1. Mainstream
2. Genre? Pop Rock. What are conventions of genre? The song is a mix of rock and pop. Our target market would be a young
audience and fashionable clothing will be worn by artist(s). We will show the experience of the artist and cut between
performance and narrative. That will make the audience more connected to the artist and make them more “approachable”
3. Artist - who are they? what is their image? The artist are featured within all the shots of the music video as a ‘background
cameo’ type of role. The clothes they would wear is casual, as it isn't dark as in rock, or revealing as in pop. USP? How do
they appeal to audience? Their image appeal to the audience will come from them being laid back and performing their song
with passion. How will you promote them? The artist will be promoted as being laid back. The promotion will be based on
their music and not the looks.
4. Type of music video? Why? How does the type of music video promote the artist? The music video is a mix of narrative
and performance.
It is promoting the artist by showing their struggle and ambition to succeed, while also showing that they are only human.
5. Idea development for video (details of performance/narrative/concept)
This will be both performance and narrative. The narrative follows a person who is fed up with his life and decided to follow
their passion, similar to the group. The performance part will show how the group is really passionate about their music.
Bastille The Killers
4. Idea 3: Sleepyhead – Passion Pit
• 1. Indie
• 2. Genre? Electropop, Neo-psychedelia, post-disco What are conventions of genre? Vibrant colours, psychedelic, random,
creative, unique (compare similar/differences in artists in this genre/subgenre)
• 3. Artist - who are they? What is their image? Vibrant clothing, retro look, coloured hair USP? How do they appeal to audience?
It is aimed towards a young demographic as they can relate with pop ‘vibrant’ music How will you promote them? They will be
promoted as enthusiastic and retro. (if they are not present in the video you need to explain why they aren't and how the idea
promotes the artist)
• 4. Type of music video? Stop-Motion Performance Why? Because it’s unique and something that isn’t seen within the music
industry.
• How does the type of music video promote the artist? It showcases his style and the genre he represents.
• 5. Idea development for video (details of performance/narrative/concept)
The video will be in stop motion for the majority of it. (Heavily influenced by Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye.) Throughout
the video, the performer will alter his looks in the form of stop motion. Lighting in the video will alter as we want to implement some
form of glow in the dark and fluorescent materials. In the end of the video, the final shots will be of the artist in the same position but
laying in a bed, indicating that it was all a dream. In this we also want to reference the first music video to be made, Video Killed The
Radio Star, in order to ay homage to the Buggles and show old aspects can be transformed into new ideas.
Gotye Anamanaguchi The Buggles
6. Lifted Up (1985) – Passion Pit
Features:
- Song revolves around an alien meeting a human.
- Stop motion narrative
- It will feature references to things that happened in 1985.
- Artist will be dressed as 80’s style nerd.
What will happen
- Video will start off with “33 years ago” stop motion scene of different coloured lights going round in a circle. (UFO-
like).
- It will then go to a shot of the artist (the main character in the narrative looking up and being ‘abducted’ by an
alien.
- The alien and artist make accomplices. The first part of the music video will show the artist experiencing ‘alien
ways’, could involve moving objects (can be done easier in stop motion), could even involve some Claymation.
- The second part would be the opposite. So the alien and the artist come back to earth and experience how
humans live.
- At the end of the music video, it goes to the artist/main character in 2018, “Present Day” as a middle aged man
and ends with him looking up at the nights sky with the lights that appeared at the start present.
7. What will happen?/Plot?
- Starts off with artist, waking up and opening his bedroom door in
which shows an outside location (green screen)
- Stop-motion starts when he walks into the outside location.
- As he walks around in this location, he encounters, weirdly dressed
people (belonging to a futuristic time period).
- Video ends with him waking up from his ‘apparent’ dream, but there
is a shot of one of the accessories he was wearing laying on the floor,
in order to create a narrative enigma.
