3. Objective
• Determine the monthly, annually and average power prediction in
Kotmale reservoir.
• Model the ANN and estimate the possible annual power prediction
in the dam

4. Introduction
Currently, the power demand is growing with all day, which need
more generation resource and different grid construction. The
developing countries that need to get a make enough resources
must achieve load cracking so as to accomplish stability of power
system.
Target of this project is to discover the ANNs ability to predict
power generation regard as the main role in the training of the
network and establish the relationship with input-output
hydropower plant through a Feed forward, back propagation
algorithms.

10. Data collection
Monthly rainfall data of 4 meteorological stations are used in this study. The rain gauges are
controlled by the department of meteorology Sri Lanka. The department personnel inspect this
gauges, and get the data and undertaken further quality test for this data. Daily climatology of the
screened rainfall station plotted to analyze the monthly rainfall variation for each station.
Inflow data of Kotmale reservoir for the 30 years period is also will collect from Mahaweli Authority of
Sri Lanka (MASL). The inflow of Kotmale reservoir calculate to applying the following method. Water
volume of the reservoir is calculate is remaining water level of the Kotmale dam from its original
capacity. After that the sustaining the removal for hydropower generation. Using contour gridding of
the reservoir, the inflow is back-calculating from the remaining water level
