3. • CROP VARIETY IMPROVEMENT
This approach depends on finding a crop variety that can give a good yield.
One way of incorporating desirable characters into crop varieties is by
hybridisation. Hybridisation refers to crossing between genetically
dissimilar plants. Another way of improving the crop is by introducing a
gene that would provide the desired characteristic. This results in
genetically modified crops (GNC).Farmers should also be provided with
good quality seeds of a particular variety that is ,the seeds should all be of
the same variety and germinate under the same conditions.

4. • CROP PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT
In India farming ranges are from small to very large farms. Different farmers
thus have more or less land, money and access to information and
technologies. In short it is the money or financial conditions that allow the
farmers to take up different farming practices. They include ‘no cost’
production, ‘low cost’ production and ‘high cost’ production practices.
There are three main types i.e. nutrient management, irrigation and
cropping patterns that increase the crop production.

5. • CROP PROTECTION MANAGEMENT
Field crops are infested by a large number of weeds, pests and diseases.
These can be controlled by various methods. One of the most commonly
used methods is pesticides ;which include herbicides, insecticides and
fungicides. Weed control methods also includes mechanical removal.
Preventive methods such as timely sowing of crops, intercropping and crop
rotation also help in weed control. Preventive and control measures are
used before grains are stored for future use.

7. o CATTLE FARMING
Cattle husbandary is done for two purposes- milk and draught labour for
agricultural work such as tilling, etc. Milk production depends , to some
extend ,on the duration of the lactation period, meaning the period of milk
production after the birth of calves. Proper cleaning and shelter facilities
for cows and buffaloes are required for the health of the animals and for
the production of clean milk as well. Cattle suffer from a number of
diseases. The diseases, besides causing death, reduce milk
production.Vaccinations are given to farm animals against many major viral
and bacterial diseases.
