2. Public Sector – Sands Secondary
Address: 10840 82 Ave, Delta, BC V4C 2B3
Service Sector: Public – Public high schools offer free education and
fees can be reduced if an individual cannot meet the required price
for a school/grad event (Lunn, 2022, p. 3). My high school reached
out to each class to talk about our red-carpet event which cost $90.
The counsellor told us all directly that there are funds available for
those who can't pay the full price due to their personal constraints.
Overall, it was to help the public good (students) to ensure that
everyone had access and the means to make it to the event.

3. SPSC 2210 Connection: Coaching – At Sands, they offer
the chance of joining the grade 8/9 basketball team. By
having these opportunities available, Sands is "enhancing
the quality of life and well-being of citizens" (Lunn, 2022,
p. 3). They bring in previous students from Sands that also
played on the basketball team and ask them to coach. This
shows that even those that aren't students anymore at
Sands Secondary, the teachers still care about
their potential need for volunteer hours. Or they believe
that coaching could be an important and useful experience
in their life. At Sands, the class Super Fit for grade 11/12s
also relate to coaching because it focuses on improving our
own performances (triathlon, hikes, etc.) as well as team
performance (team games). The coaches may also end up
inspiring the students to achieve their ideal self-image,
allowing them to create an image of who they want to be
and then working hard to make it a reality (Lunn, 2022).

4. Public Sector – George Mackie Library
Address: 8440 112 St, Delta, BC V4C 4W9
Service Sector: Public – George Mackie Library is a
public sector because it receives small grants
occasionally from the Delta council. They purchased a
soundproof meeting room divider (~$10,000), soft
furnishings and accent carpet in the children's area of
the library (~$1,000). They have age-related programs
such as baby time (ages 0-2), let's get factual: non-fiction
book club (adults), how to solve puzzle cubes (for
adults, kids, and teens), etc. The owner of the library
does not need to take money out of their own pocket to
improve the library. Instead, it's "free or fees are
subsidized" (Lunn, 2022, p. 3) by the City of Delta.

5. Education – George Mackie Library
SPSC 2210 Connection: Education at George Mackie Library can be anything from signing
out a book and reading it, making the library your "go-to" spot when studying with friends,
and the educational programs offered there. The library hosts events for post-secondary
students such as "Planning for Post-Secondary with Credit Counselling Society". In this
workshop, the teens and adults learn how to manage money, learn about different types of
student loans, etc. At George Mackie, they incorporate clubs and cozy furniture to make
studying more fun for the general public. This helps encourage the use of play to keep
people actively engaged in what they are doing (sharing ideas about a book they read, or
group study time – quizzing each other) (Lunn, 2022).
6. Address: 11415 84 Ave, Delta, BC V4C 2L9
Service Sector: Public – North delta Rec Centre is
free for kids under 18. They also offer summer
passes of $20 for 3 months, however after that, the
drop-in fee is $5. The general public has access to
necessary services (weight room, arena – ice and
dry, gymnasium, curling rink, outdoor pool, curling
rink, pottery studio, off leash area for dogs, etc.)
and is for the good of the community (Lunn, 2022,
p. 3). The rec center also offers swimming lessons,
age-related programs, sports, events, and art
(pottery studio and public art gallery) (Lunn, 2022,
p. 3).

7. Recreation – North Delta Recreation Centre
SPSC 2210 Connection: Recreation at North Delta
Recreation Centre will help individuals in Delta or those
visiting Delta better understand the society we live in.
Socially, it builds strong communities since it's such a
small community, it will also "reduce alienation,
loneliness, and anti-social behaviors" (Lunn, 2022). By
having a variety of services and amenities offered for the
public of all ages, it will ensure community involvement,
cultural harmony, human development, positive lifestyle
choices, and improve their quality of life (Lunn, 2022).
North Delta Rec Centre also has an off-leash dog park
which contributes to positive environmental factors.
"Through the provision of parks, open spaces, and
protected natural environments, recreation can contribute
to the health of our communities" (Lunn, 2022).

8. Address: 1900 56 St, Delta, BC V4L 2B1
Service Sector: Commercial – Southpointe Academy is a private school; it is a commercial
factor because "it is provided for a cost" (Lunn, 2022, p. 6). On their website, they have a
page dedicated for annual tuition and fees:
Kindergarten - Grade 5: $20,000 CAD
Grade 6-8: $20,800 CAD
Grade 9-10: $21,225 CAD
Grade 11: $22,000 CAD
Grade 12: $22,425 CAD
International Students: $39,650 CAD
An interest of 3% per month will also be charged for individuals with overdue balances. On
top of that, they have bus fees, uniform fees, after school care fee, outdoor education fee,
grade 11 service week fee, and they offer discounts (sibling discount – younger the sibling =
more discount). They also have an online store for athletes to purchase equipment for
sports or apparel. They are serving the public good because they value their athletes and
want to give options for all students if they want to try a different sport. However, by
adding an online store to their website gives off the impression that they are primary for
profit (Lunn, 2022, p. 6).

9. SPSC 2210 Connection: The training at Southpointe
Academy is high level and they have a variety of sports
offered. The sports they offer are handball, soccer,
basketball, cross country, track & field, volleyball, and
badminton. There is a sport for each grade to join if they
are interested. Their mission statement is "excellence is a
habit" and they want to represent that through all Titans
athletes. Their goals are also following NCCP 1-3-5-7
(having values, leading, and interacting) definitions with
Titans purpose of expressing gratitude, embrace
challenge, and lead through effort. Their pride focus is
be courageous, be humble, WE over ME, and build
your legacy.

Service Sector: Commercial – She's Fit is located right by
Delta Rise, a fairly new apartment building (highest one in
North Delta). It is right by Superstore and many other
shopping stores. It has definitely "increased recreation
opportunities for residents," given that they have a gym that is
walking distance from them (Lunn, 2022, p. 7). She's Fit and
Club 16 manage to be successful because of their low cost and
that their registration fee is usually $0 (because of the
promotion deals). At work I will constantly hear
advertisements to join Club 16/She's Fit because of their $0
registration fee, tanning studios, and the massages they offer
there (Lunn, 2022, p. 7).
Commercial Sector – She's Fit/Club

11. Recreation – She's Fit/Club 16
SPSC 2210 Connection: She's Fit represents recreation because it increases recreation opportunities for
residents and increases employment opportunities (Lunn, 2022, p. 7). You can join She's Fit once you're 16
years old which provides the youth with "positive lifestyle choices and alternatives to self-destructive
behavior" (Lunn, 2022). Having a safe place to go and work on yourself will also allow you to improve on your
physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual factors. You go to the gym when you have free time, you are less
likely to skip work/school just to go to the gym. By consistently going to the gym, you are going to have a goal
in mind which is the "what we might become" (ideal self) (Lunn, 2022). She's Fit will give you chances to "be
yourself, to express your talents, capacities, and potential" (Lunn, 2022) which is what your ideal self-image is
about.
12. Address: 11954 88 Ave, Delta, BC V4C 3C8
Service Sector: Commercial – Kumon tutoring center focuses
on math and reading for kids as young as preschool – grade
12. It serves the public good because kids will do better in
school, and they offer highly educated tutors. They guarantee
that kids leave Kumon with more confidence, better study
skills, focus, work ethic, and reduce homework stress/anxiety.
However, it does cost money to get smarter and they are profit
orientated (Lunn, 2022, p. 6). They have many success stories
and incentive programs to promote their company on their
website. This is a strategy to target the general public and
create further advertising to get individuals to believe in
their methods.
Commercial Sector – Kumon
Kumon Facebook Logo, Sept 23rd, 2019.
13. Education – Kumon
SPSC 2210 Connection: Nowadays, the school system may not be enough for some
parents. We have regular school (elementary or high school) and then some kids get sent
to more school after that. They want their students to improve their work ethic and to
modify their current habits. By learning and understanding math and reading
exceptionally, this will give students more confidence when writing their tests and reduce
the stress/anxiety that comes with it. Taking out the stress of school will also let them enjoy
their play and recreation time better because the weight will be off their shoulders (Lunn,
2022). If a student's ideal self is to do better in school, sending them to Kumon might give
them a sense of fulfillment and accomplishment because they have achieved their goal
(Lunn, 2022).
14. Address: 11339 84 Ave, Delta, BC V4C 2L9
Service Sector: Voluntary – The boys and girls club is
located right next to the North Delta Recreation Center.
Everything is donations based if you want to partake in any
programs offered there. They also have fundraising events
like "over the edge" and "club house gala". The programs
are also self-funded, self-governing, and private (Lunn,
2022, p. 8). They are profit making with summer camps
and outdoor center programs; however, they offer lower
rates because of their fundraising efforts.
Voluntary Sector – Hillside
Boys & Girls Club
Hillside Boys & Girls Club in North Delta,
Nov 2016
15. SPSC 2210 Connection: At the summer camp, they offer
leadership programs which focuses on the development of
hard and soft skills, group problem-solving, and acquiring
the necessary training required to be an effective leader.
The program tries to bring out the best in people and
recognize the value they have to bring to the world. This
can relate to the 5 core competencies of problem solving,
critical thinking, valuing, leading, and interacting with
members in your group. Participants that join the
leadership programs will be given opportunities to develop
effective communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
As a summer camp leader, you will have to provide
support to those kids trying the activities, support the
competitive experiences (any races), and manage your
assigned section.
Coaching – Boys & Girls
Club
16. Recreation – Hillside Boys & Girls Club
SPSC 2210 Connection: Voluntary recreation services started branching out in the early 1900's in
Canada. With organizing, providing recreation and sport services throughout the community (Lunn,
2022). Hillside Boys & Girls Club does just that in the Delta community. Since they primary rely on
fundraising and the members to sustain survival, they have to invest their time in getting to know
each individual. They also have drop in clubs where kids can play, do homework together, do arts
and crafts, or play sports. This is where kids get in their play time which will help "express and
develop individuality, it helps to maintain positive mental health, and it is the foundation of
creativity" (Lunn, 2022). By providing and offering these summer programs and clubs for kids to
join and teens to volunteer as summer camp leaders, it will lead to "building strong families, the
foundation to a strong society" (Lunn, 2022). Kids and volunteers will be going back every summer
for vacation and it may help with their "stress management in today's busy and demanding world"
(Lunn, 2022).
17. Address: 11040 River Rd, Delta, BC V4C 2S2
Service Sector: Voluntary – The Trinity Lutheran
Church in Delta makes their profit through
donations. They provide services and events such as
Easter breakfast in the community hall, dance blasts
events, yoga, etc. All these events are good for
society/community because it's free and can be good
for their health (Lunn, 2022, p. 8-9). Not everyone in
the community will participate in the Church's events,
it is usually the same group of people that attend
because they have established a deeper interest
(Lunn, 2022, p. 9). These individuals are "like-
minded" (Lunn, 2022, p. 9) and have established an
organized culture.
Voluntary Sector: Trinity Lutheran
Church
Trinity Lutheran Church in North Delta, Nov
2021.
18. Education – Trinity Lutheran Church
SPSC 2210 Connection: At Trinity Lutheran Church they offer education in ways of
understanding yourself deeper and self-growth. It can help those who got mixed into the
wrong crowd of people and are trying to find meaning in their life again (discover what their
ideal self-image is). At the church they have bridge leadership training two times a week which
focuses on learning about social change. This can spark up new hopes, fears, weaknesses to
your actual self (Lunn, 2022). By expanding your knowledge, you can learn more about
yourself and may find new values (Lunn, 2022). If church is a place, you have not been
before, you can "step outside of your ordinary life" and explore what it offers.
