1. Tagging 101
- By Undergraduate Academic Council

LA 101 and LA 102
2. What is tagging?
What tagging is:
● A facility provided to final year
students to do additional courses
and then select courses which
they wish to count towards their
‘core CPI’, in accordance with
their curriculum
What tagging isn’t:
● An option to blindly retag
courses to optimize CPI without
any rules (sounds familiar?)
3. When is it done?
The option of tagging (or re-
tagging) is provided to students
only TWICE for the entire stay in
IIT Bombay
1. In the beginning of their
placement semester
2. At the time of graduation
4. Things to note here:
1. The courses that have been re-tagged
once in the previous window, cannot be
changed again in the next one.
2. Since 2017, the tagging window for
Category I DD students will also be the
same as the re-tagging window of their
B.Tech counterparts (those who are
graduating). For them (Category I DD
students), the second window for re-
tagging will be made available at the
time of graduation. This has been done
to ensure a fair process of selection for
the institute medals.
5. Sounds good, what are the rules for this?
TAG CODE TAG DESCRIPTION CHANGEABLE INTO
T Additional Learning D,I,O
C Core Course Not changeable
D Department Elective O,T
O Honours Course D,T
E Honours Elective D,O,T
H Humanities Elective T
I Institute Elective T
M Minor Course I,T
6. Important
Points to Note:
● Honors elective E is not in use now. Any
course under honors must be tagged as
Honors Core-O
● SOM/IDC minor courses cannot be re-
tagged as an Institute Elective without the
permission of HoD. Please consult with
HoD before proceeding with registrations
● For any special requests i.e. a change,
which cannot be implemented on the
tagging interface, the student has to get
an approval from his/her Faculty Advisor
and HoD of concerned department (other
department in case of minors) → More on
this later
7. Understood, what is the procedure?
ConfirmationPreparation and Planning Execution
1. Go to iitb.ac.in/asc
2. Login through your LDAP
3. Have a good look at the
courses and present tags
4. Look up the rules and
note down the changes
that you would like at a
place.
1. Go to asc.iitb.ac.in
2. Login through your LDAP
3. Go to Academics → Change
of Tag in the left panel
4. Mark the desired changes
on the application
interface that opens up
Once all this is done,
you will get an
option to save your
tags. Click on
‘Confirm’ and it will
display your newly
updated tags.
8. So, what about
the Manual
Tagging forms?
● In an ideal case, NO MANUAL TAGGING is
required for you to complete the process
● It shall be required only in the situation
that ASC doesn’t allow a particular tag
change which your department
curriculum otherwise allows.
● What to do in this situation?
○ Get the manual form from the
interface itself
○ Mark the required change of tags
○ Get it approved by your Faculty
Advisor
○ Get it approved by your HoD
○ Submit it in Dean AP’s Office
AVOID THEM
AS MUCH AS
POSSIBLE
