rocks. He threw them over his
shoulder, into the sea, planning
to arrange them later. But when
he turned around, he actually
liked what he saw and left
everything as it was.
5. Geographical location
The Kornati islands are famous for the extravagance of their
shapes and the special structure of the reliefs, as well as for
their high steep coasts.
Over 100 islands, with islets of white
rock are scattered in a stretch of the
sea about 35 km long and 13 km wide,
mostly in Šibenik and Knin County.

• The great number of islands, their different
geomorphological characteristics, their shapes, climate
conditions, cliffs (crowns) on the outer parts of islands - all
of that makes these islands special and it's visible in their
flora and vegetation.
8. The mainland of the park may remind us of a desert, but the
existence of 537 plant species has been confirmed, and it is
estimated that there are 700-800 of them in total.

9. Fauna of National Park Kornati
Scientists are still working on preparing an expert listing of the island
fauna of Kornati.
The area is rich in highly important submarine communities.
Recently researchers of the Blue World Institute recorded the largest
observed group of dolphins ever – more than 50 of them, around the
Isle of Mana in Kornati archipelago.

Life on the Kornati Islands has always meant struggle for survival.
In order to live on the Kornati, a Kurnatar (a local person) needed to
have many skills - he had to be a sailor, shepherd, peasant, fisherman,
artisan, cook – in order to survive.

The famous field of Trtuša is situated on the island of Kornat
The most widespread culture in the Kornati islands is the olive
tree, which produces high quality olive oil.

A notable ornament of the Kornati National Park is the incredible symbiosis of
nature and humans which can be seen in the impressive structures: ports, dry
stone walls, olive orchards, docks, forts, churches.
