Millwright
I was working on contract at an FMCG plant called QK meats in City Deep Johannesburg on contract, from
beginning of July 2009 till end of August as a Millwright on the maintenance team, doing , faultfinding and electrical
installation and also contracted at Control Instruments as a Millwright from 1 October 2009 till 15 January 2010.
APPRETISHIP
Arcellor Mittal
(March 2007 to November 2008)
Installed new drives of 900KW (2000A-525 VDC) on 4 motors with our maintenance team and three 400KW (750A-
830V) and we still maintain them. We have 9 cranes with max of 10t running on motors of 20-50 KW that we service
and do fault finding on, we have 4 shears of max 350t that cut steel with flying wheel. We work with rolls, conveyors,
saws, gearbox, pump, valves; hydraulics, pneumatics, chains bearing, control gears, panel wiring, cable
arrangement and lighting all in electrical and mechanical.
3. Practical Experience:
Electrical
Fault finding
I have experience on the following:
• Electrical panels (star-delta, direct-on-line, etc)
• AC and DC motors
• AC and DC Drives
• PLC (basic faultfinding)
• Control Switch Gears
PLC
I have experience on the following:
• Design PLC sequence system
• Reading and understanding PLC drawings
• Connect Designed systems
• I can work on Siemens and Mitsubishi
Installation and connections
I have experience on the following:
• Cable arrangement in underground tunnels
• Connecting AC motors (slip ring, squirrel cage) DC motor, resistor banks, DB boards, Control switch gears,
limit switches, proxy, lights, three phase and single phase
• Panel wiring
Maintenance
Every Monday the mill stands for 8hrs. I do maintenance on 9 overhead cranes max 10t, two contactor rooms, 350t
shear, over 70 rolls and motors (squirrel cage), change motor and contactor brushes of AC and DC.
Mechanical
I have experience in installing mounting components in panels and control rooms
• Mounting contactors
• Mounting motors and gear boxes
• Alignment of shaft with motors, water and oil pumps. Gearbox, lathe, rollers, shears, chain sprockets,
couplings, pulleys
• Putting on bearings and taking them out
• I have good hand skills and can use all hand tools
I can modify build and install different brackets and mechanical structures that are suited for the problem to be
solved.
I service and maintain two oil stations and water station
• Maintain motors and pumps
• Change of cylinders, valves, directional valves ( electrically and manually)
• Steel pipe connections
• Power pack service
• I can read drawings
The type of environment I have most experience in
• Overhead cranes
• Water Stations
• Furnace
• Oil Stations
• Cooling bank
• 350t sheer with flying wheel
• Conveyors
Directech (industrial mechatronic solutions)
2006 to 2007
4. I was apprentice for 12 months for electrical fitter (Millwright). We successfully completed four high tech projects at
BMW, NISSAN, BAT and NAMPAK
NAMPAK
I was part of the team that built and installed conveyors, pallet rollers and big pallet wrappers. All of these gave me
experience in wire installation, panel building, panel installation and putting wiring in good order. Mechanically I built every
part of the project which I have most of the experience in motor, rollers and sensor’s brackets and installing the chain
systems. All the cylinders were pneumatics and one of hydraulic and pipe installation and solenoid connection.
BAT
A new plant was built and our project was to install pipes on the inside roof for water in case of fire and to install pipes for
wiring.
NISSAN
The new technology was introduced called AGV. I built a big mechanical structure piece by piece until it could move
through the magnetic field and then open up vertically to put in the engines. Five AVG were built for different cars.
BMW
Shut down 2007 – removed all the broken runways and installed new runways for all manually operated tools at assembly
plant and Engine plant. We installed small AGV, dashboard installer, conveyors, 2km installation of magnets 2 m apart
and new operation panel. The rigging and fitting was done on aluminium channelling.
Skills Developed:
