2. After you have watched the video please send your literacy coach an e-mail letting them know you were able to access the video and asking any questions you may have before the assessment is given.
3. After students complete the assessment teachers should look at the results and think about where they believe their students placed but they don’t need to actually mark the work at this time.

5. The Literacy coaches will provide travelling, half day training sessions on the use of this assessment. These assessments will be for grade 6 teachers and SSTs we haven’t worked with before. They will use the following schedule and will share the exact location when it has been confirmed with the schools.

11. There will be no large group follow-up after this assessment. The literacy coaches will meet individually with teachers in November and December to talk about what the results may mean for classroom instruction.
![121526-788276Grade 6 Literacy Assessment Plan<br />As most of you are already aware the GSSD literacy initiative moves up to grade 6 for the 2011-2012 school year. In preparation for this during the past year a few grade 6 teachers tried out a whole group reading assessment called the RAD. We also solictited feedback from the grade 5 teachers on Fountas & Pinnell Benchmarking. To make the final decision a small committee of grade 6 teachers had a meeting to discuss the two possible assessments. There are a number of pros and cons for the use of both the RAD and the F & P at the grade 6 level. The final decision of the group was that we should do both of these assessments during the next school year. This will give grade 6 teachers information on a number of critical factors regarding their students’ reading. As grade 6 also administer CAT 4 this will make the fall very busy for grade 6 teachers.
