Good Morning!
I hope you have all had a great weekend and are ready for our students to return on Tuesday! Mike,
Kelly and I want to thank everyone for a very productive and positive three days last week.
Hopefully, the schedule we worked out gave you the time needed in your rooms and with
departments to plan for the start of the year.
As we start the school year we would like to encourage everyone to kick the year off on a positive
note where we set a positive tone for climate and a strong educational work ethic. Be sure to invite
us into your rooms to see some of the great work you have taking place this week.

Weekly Hot Topics:
Monday: The building is closed to parents today until 3 PM. After that time I do ease up
on requests to come in and prepare lockers, etc.
Homebase: We will be on a Homebase schedule the first five days of the school year.
o Be sure to check Sharepoint to make sure you can open the Handbook review OR
use the e-mail Mike sent out last week.
o Student forums will be 8th
grade - Wednesday, 7th
grade – Thursday and 6th
grade -
Friday.
o Students should sign that they received all handbooks on the first day.
2. o Hall Passes: Be sure to review the hall pass procedures with students and stress the
importance of keeping their agenda books.
o Locker magnets should be placed on student lockers by the end of the day on
Monday.
Web-site: Please send Mike your Team Welcome message for the team web-site by the end
of the day today.
o The message should be generic and Welcoming.
Classroom Management Plans: Pleasesend your management plans to your grade level
administrator by the end of the day today. If you are developing guidelines and procedures
through class discussion let Mike and Kelly know and plan on sending those along by the
end of the week.
Building SharePoint: The school SharePoint site is up and running but not formatted the
way we would like. Hopefully, that is finished by the end of the week.
First Day:
o We hope to have representatives from Ballwin PD and Metro West on hand to greet
students as they arrive at school.
o All staff should be in the halls to help students at the 7:20 bell. 6th
grade teachers
should come to the café by 7:20 AM to escort Homebase classes back to rooms. 7th
and 8th
to the gym before then to meet and help direct students.
o You will get bus information by the end of the day on Tuesday. Plan on 10 minutes
at the end of the period to check that all students know which bus they will be
riding.
o At the end of the day please walk to the front of the building to help get students on
buses. Counselors and admins will have copies of the bus rosters to assist.
IEP’s: Please read and sign-off on IEP’s for students on your roster.
Drill Schedule: Review the schedule with students and make sure they understand correct
behavior during each drill.
Pre-Assessments: Be sure to plan out your pre-assessment schedule with your team. They
should be given within the first two weeks of the start of the school year. Please let your
grade level administrator know when you are giving your pre-assessment.
School Pride: Dress for success on Tuesday. Let’s set a professional tone on the first day.
We will all wear our SMS shirts on Friday.
GATES – Language Arts Teachers, please send to Kelly by Thursday:
o The date you will be testing
o The total number of students testing
o Your largest class size.
Department chair Meeting: We will be going over the PLC web-site to train on how to
input SMART Goals for the SIP Plan. Please plan on staying for about an hour to go
through the training.

Safety: Please review all safety procedures with students this week. Remember, we are
required to conduct all our drills during the first week of the school year.
