3. 1. Know the importance of philosophy in the
education system.
• Etymologically the philosophy word from Greek, Philo-Love and
Sophia –Wisdom, Hence Love of Wisdom.
• Wisdom is not knowledge. It is closely related experience and worth
bearing a sense of knowledge.
• Philosophy is certain method of thinking system.
• Knowledge of philosophy is fundamental, not only to an
understanding of education, but also to decide or select the
technique for effective use.
4. 2. Understand the types of functions of
philosophy.
• There are two major functions in philosophy 1. Analysis 2. Synthesis
• Analysis is not focusing meta-physical principles.
• It focuses the philosophical inquiry. Ex. Locke.
• It clarifies, what we already know of inconsistencies in our thinking
system.
• Whereas, synthesis is conventional model. It belongs to man’s total
experiences. Ex. Plato’s inquiry.
• Sometime leads to philosophizing the concept is another method.

• Philosophy raises the existing knowledge system or create new
knowledge system.
• Science gives the information process whereas, arts interpret the
information process.
