Facebook"
Chapter I: Statement of the Problem
and the Review of Related Literature
Introduction
This chapter contains the Background
of the study , Statement of the problem,
Purpose of the study , Research Questions,
Significance of the study, Scope and
Delimitation , Review of Related Literature,
and Definition of terms.
Background of the Study
February 4, 2004, a nineteen year old, Mark
Zuckerberg, launched Facebook. He founded the
Facebook while he was studying at Harvard
University. He had already developed many social
networking websites for his fellow students, including
coursematch which was allowing users to view
people who are taking their degree and Facebook
where you could rate people attractiveness. In just
one day, one thousand two hundred Harvard
students had signed up on the site and with in one
half of the undergraduate population had their
profile. The network scattered all over in US
Universities.
It was called as facebook.com in august 2005. From
September 2005, the US high schools could signed up
and then after in began to spread all over the world
reaching UK universities. The site remains free to join
and gave a profits through the advertising revenue.
The network extended to educational institutions to
anyone with their registered email address in
September 2006. The yahoo and Google company
expressed interest to buy the network but Mr.
Zuckerberg didn't accepted it. The site continued to
developed during 2007. Many changes had come and
new things and give the users can give their gifts to
friends post free and develop their own applications.
The number of registered users had reached 30
million in 2007 making the Facebook as the largest
networking site with an educational focus. (Philip, July
25 2007).
There are also research about Facebook which is
beneficial to the student. According to the conclusion
of Gafni and Deri to their research about cost and
benefits of Facebook founded as a very important
thing for the first year student (RQ-b), and they can
easily find other people in the campus through using
it .Facebook also found active for the student's
learning process
Statement of the Problem
According to (Shukla,2017) There are ten negative effects of
Facebook to the teens. The isolation, putting on weight, abnormal
symptoms, bad for eyes, communication with strangers, lacks
emotional connections, unhealthy and sex approach. That is why
parents do not allowed their children to use Facebook. Aside from it
spends a lot of time, it would lead to give negative effects to their
children. The shoutmeloud.com page (2017) also states that there
are disadvantages of using Facebook. One of major concerns and
disadvantages of Facebook, is Facebook privacy, private status
published publicity, Facebook profiles not using Facebook list feature
and time consuming. There are also myths about Facebook. One of
this myths is people can see who viewed their profile.(Snow,2015).
.
However, most of the young teenagers
spend their time most especially facebook,
because it is fun to use and best to use in
communication.(Shukla,2017)
This study will erase the wrong perception
of others about using facebook through
interviewing students in Lamanan National
High School about their perception of the
benefits of facebook and how it helped them
as a students.
Purpose of the Study
The purpose of the study was to determine the
students perception on the benefits of facebook.
There are three main objectives in this study:
1. To interview students about the benefits of
facebook.
2. Is to erase the wrong notion or misconception
of others about facebook.
3. To determine that facebook has also benefits
to the students.
Research Question
The central question of this research was what are the
perception of students about the benefits of facebook.
In reaction to this question, five specific questions were
used.
1. What do student say about facebook?
2. What are the reasons of students in using facebook?
3. What are the benefits, students get from facebook?
4. How did they apply those benefits as a studet?
5. How important is facebook to the students?
Significant of the Study
This study is significant because it will present
ideas or evidences that there are benefits,
advantages and positive things that can be taken
from facebook. It will also erase the wrong
notion or misconception and negative comments
and complaints about facebook. It will gather
information about what facebook could give to
help the students of Lamanan National High
School.
Scope and Delimitation
The range of this study is to determine the
perception of the Junior H.S student in Lamanan
National High School S.Y 2017-2018 about the
benefits of using facebook. However, this study
involved free limitations. First, there are only five
students per grade level to be in interviewed.
Second, the study will only interview those
students who often use facebook. Third, the
questions to be interviewed must be related to the
topic of the study.
Review of Related Literature
Facebook is use as an entertainment by the students, (Shukla 2017).
Facebook also gives many benefits and positive effects towards the
students.
One of the benefits or the advantage of facebook is, it is use in
business. Business man use facebook to promote or sell their product
and services. Facebook also help them to found their clients,
(Shoutmeloud.com,2017) . They can easily update their supliers
investors and high value customers.
Facebook also gives news and informations. It is a real time social
networking site, best for getting source and to stay updated with
recent news and informations.(Shoutmeloud.com 2017)
It is best to use as communication. Facebook allows a
quick and efficient exchanging of messages and find
friends by the use of search bar. Facebook also shows the
list of your friend and your contact
list.(Shoibraza134,2017).
Facebook is a big source of information that many people
shared on daily basis. There are thousands of pages with
different languages in every country that shared
information to be read.(Shoaibraza134,2017)
Nationally , according to the page exploreble.com,
Facebook is a very powerful tool to communicate .It helps
the Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in reducing their
loneliness to their love ones.

  • 1. "What's on your mind? Students Perception on the Benefits of Facebook" Chapter I: Statement of the Problem and the Review of Related Literature
  • 2. Introduction This chapter contains the Background of the study , Statement of the problem, Purpose of the study , Research Questions, Significance of the study, Scope and Delimitation , Review of Related Literature, and Definition of terms.
  • 3. Background of the Study February 4, 2004, a nineteen year old, Mark Zuckerberg, launched Facebook. He founded the Facebook while he was studying at Harvard University. He had already developed many social networking websites for his fellow students, including coursematch which was allowing users to view people who are taking their degree and Facebook where you could rate people attractiveness. In just one day, one thousand two hundred Harvard students had signed up on the site and with in one half of the undergraduate population had their profile. The network scattered all over in US Universities.
  • 4. It was called as facebook.com in august 2005. From September 2005, the US high schools could signed up and then after in began to spread all over the world reaching UK universities. The site remains free to join and gave a profits through the advertising revenue. The network extended to educational institutions to anyone with their registered email address in September 2006. The yahoo and Google company expressed interest to buy the network but Mr. Zuckerberg didn't accepted it. The site continued to developed during 2007. Many changes had come and new things and give the users can give their gifts to friends post free and develop their own applications.
  • 5. The number of registered users had reached 30 million in 2007 making the Facebook as the largest networking site with an educational focus. (Philip, July 25 2007). There are also research about Facebook which is beneficial to the student. According to the conclusion of Gafni and Deri to their research about cost and benefits of Facebook founded as a very important thing for the first year student (RQ-b), and they can easily find other people in the campus through using it .Facebook also found active for the student's learning process
  • 6. Statement of the Problem According to (Shukla,2017) There are ten negative effects of Facebook to the teens. The isolation, putting on weight, abnormal symptoms, bad for eyes, communication with strangers, lacks emotional connections, unhealthy and sex approach. That is why parents do not allowed their children to use Facebook. Aside from it spends a lot of time, it would lead to give negative effects to their children. The shoutmeloud.com page (2017) also states that there are disadvantages of using Facebook. One of major concerns and disadvantages of Facebook, is Facebook privacy, private status published publicity, Facebook profiles not using Facebook list feature and time consuming. There are also myths about Facebook. One of this myths is people can see who viewed their profile.(Snow,2015).
  • 7. . However, most of the young teenagers spend their time most especially facebook, because it is fun to use and best to use in communication.(Shukla,2017) This study will erase the wrong perception of others about using facebook through interviewing students in Lamanan National High School about their perception of the benefits of facebook and how it helped them as a students.
  • 8. Purpose of the Study The purpose of the study was to determine the students perception on the benefits of facebook. There are three main objectives in this study: 1. To interview students about the benefits of facebook. 2. Is to erase the wrong notion or misconception of others about facebook. 3. To determine that facebook has also benefits to the students.
  • 9. Research Question The central question of this research was what are the perception of students about the benefits of facebook. In reaction to this question, five specific questions were used. 1. What do student say about facebook? 2. What are the reasons of students in using facebook? 3. What are the benefits, students get from facebook? 4. How did they apply those benefits as a studet? 5. How important is facebook to the students?
  • 10. Significant of the Study This study is significant because it will present ideas or evidences that there are benefits, advantages and positive things that can be taken from facebook. It will also erase the wrong notion or misconception and negative comments and complaints about facebook. It will gather information about what facebook could give to help the students of Lamanan National High School.
  • 11. Scope and Delimitation The range of this study is to determine the perception of the Junior H.S student in Lamanan National High School S.Y 2017-2018 about the benefits of using facebook. However, this study involved free limitations. First, there are only five students per grade level to be in interviewed. Second, the study will only interview those students who often use facebook. Third, the questions to be interviewed must be related to the topic of the study.
  • 12. Review of Related Literature Facebook is use as an entertainment by the students, (Shukla 2017). Facebook also gives many benefits and positive effects towards the students. One of the benefits or the advantage of facebook is, it is use in business. Business man use facebook to promote or sell their product and services. Facebook also help them to found their clients, (Shoutmeloud.com,2017) . They can easily update their supliers investors and high value customers. Facebook also gives news and informations. It is a real time social networking site, best for getting source and to stay updated with recent news and informations.(Shoutmeloud.com 2017)
  • 13. It is best to use as communication. Facebook allows a quick and efficient exchanging of messages and find friends by the use of search bar. Facebook also shows the list of your friend and your contact list.(Shoibraza134,2017). Facebook is a big source of information that many people shared on daily basis. There are thousands of pages with different languages in every country that shared information to be read.(Shoaibraza134,2017) Nationally , according to the page exploreble.com, Facebook is a very powerful tool to communicate .It helps the Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in reducing their loneliness to their love ones.
