1. 10 AADC Magazine For Alumnae & Friends • Douglass Alumnae on
The Oxford Dictionary defines social media as,
“websites and applications that enable users to
create and share content or to participate in social
networking.” An excellent and satisfying way of
getting your message across to a wide audience,
social media is an outstanding tool to help you
connect.
One of the greatest benefits of our Associate
Alumnae of Douglass College social media
platforms are the connections to our amazing
alumnae sisterhood. With some 37,000 alumnae,
social media channels enable you to tap into
the support and connections of our alumnae
sisterhood, which in some ways is the original
“powerful social network.”
Sisterhood, defined in the Oxford Dictionary
as: “The feeling of kinship with and closeness to a
group of women or all women,” is naturally social,
whether it be online or off. The AADC, whose
social media name is “Douglass Alumnae,”
enables us just one more opportunity to gather
together, this time online, bringing a greater
chance to connect across the generations and
even across oceans.
No matter what your location, you can always
tap into our social media platforms. The AADC is
active on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube,
Flickr and now Instagram. These platforms reflect
a strong network of alumnae who want to reach
out online and who are staying informed about
AADC events and alumnae programs. We also
offer encouragement, advice and friendship.
Looking to provide or receive
professional advice?
Head over to LinkedIn where you will find the
AADC Group page. There you can ask questions,
post an interesting article, seek professional
advice, and even post a job opportunity. There
are over 1,300 members of the group. If you are
one of LinkedIn’s reported 450 million users, you
may be amazed to learn how small the world truly
is when you connect via LinkedIn. LinkedIn has
shown me, firsthand, that some of my colleagues
are also alumnae, a fact and connection that I
would not have known if not for my connection
with them on LinkedIn. A professional channel,
LinkedIn, which was recently purchased by
Microsoft, is an amazing resource to locate
people and to connect professionally.

Then you probably thrive on Twitter, with each post

retweet AADC news!
Do you wish to view one of our
videos or to relive the moment?
If you missed Alumnae Reunion Convocation last
year or would like to relive the moment, you can

there?
We have a strong presence through our photos
online. Head over to our Flickr and view a collection
of more than 5,000 images, and growing. You’ll find
photos from the last four years covering events,
lectures and gatherings. Photos are organized into
albums. You can easily find friends who participate
in AADC events and programs.
Have you seen our new Instagram
account with posts from recent
events?
If you’d like to view photos on-the-go while on
your phone, open Douglass Alumnae on Instagram.
Launched this fall, our newest social media initiative
is off to a great start. The debut event posted was
the Victoria Dabrowski Schmidt ’42 Workplace
and Professional Development Symposium
held in September. If you search the hashtag,
#vdssymposium, you will find many photos posted
by attendees from the outstanding Symposium. A
special giveaway – an Apple watch – was given to
the Symposium participant who posted the most
during the event. Congratulations to Jenny Binaghi
Lichtenwalner ’02, who is now enjoying her new
watch!
I encourage alumnae to “get social” and to
become actively engaged with the AADC online,
if you aren’t there already. Our social media
icons are at the top of the AADC homepage on
douglassalumnae.org. Click for a direct link to each.
If you’ve met some new alumnae or reconnected
with a classmate at an AADC event, program or
committee, be sure to connect via social media and
keep the conversation going.
