How are you going to assess the information, the thinking the students put into the power point (the tool).
What I’m “seeing” is groups of teachers consulting each other on types of assessments they’ve used in past. What works, what they like, how they can share with each other.
Idea – give teachers all sorts of ideas, concepts, terms and have them organize in groups what 21st century assessment looks like. Make a poster and share. Plus each other.
ACTIVITY IDEA – see page 10.3, 2nd paragraph. Think through the process of teaching a friend how to do something important like how to drive a car, make a peanut butter sentence, parallel park a car, perform a card trick.
Assessments
“A rubric provides a description of successful performance and gives students feedback about their work. . . When rubrics are used in conjunction with instruction, they provide students with a blueprint to assess the quality of their own work.” (Harada & Yoshina)
BREAK – should be 1 hour point.
Group work time: Handout Rubric graphic organizer. Fill in proficient column –where will you set the bar? If time allows, fill in the other columns. – Work in groups.
