2. Introduction
Welcome, we are Ms. Melissa’s group. Today we will talk about our project
“Waves of Hope” which focuses on water problems around the world. Our
speakers will be:
Eros & Ali : Introduction
Taryn : Why Water is important
Makayla : Providing Water for the Homeless
Ernesto : Water Crisis
Ashton : South African Water Crisis
Taliyah : Watersheds
AJ : Water Contamination
Gen & Lydia : Water Conservation Tips
Arshaan & Amara : Conclusion
3. Why water is important for life
Maintains body’s cells
Maintains bloodstream
Eliminate byproducts
Regulates body temperature
Cushions joints
Kidney stones, fluid retention, infections, lower performance
Hyponatraemia
4. The Homeless Struggles For Water
Did you know that on any night, here in
America, over 500,000 homeless adults
and children are left to fend for
themselves trying to acquire food, water,
and shelter?
Did you know that the average age of a
homeless person in America is 9 years
old?
This means that starting from the age of 9,
people are starting to have health problems
caused by dehydration. Waves of Hope’s main
goal is to conserve and provide clean efficient
water to people in need.

5. The Prevention of future
water crisis
A big problem in our world is
water crisis. One example of this
was the Florida water crisis of
2014.
In 2014 the Florida government
kept putting off dealing with
water conservation and quality
issues, despite the rapid growth of
the population
Some ways we could prevent
future water crisis like this one
include: Teaching the youth about
proper water conservation,
increasing amount of water
conservation efforts, and
spreading the word about the
importance of water conservation.

6. South African Water Crisis
South African in the beginning of the year was hit with the worst drought it has
experienced in 23 years and you know it is bad because South Africa is
considered in the top 30 driest countries in the world.
It has had major effects on animals such as livestock and wildlife many farmers
can't provide their animal with water and therefor they die. Farmers maize crops
have also died meaning many jobs lost and increase on maize food prices by
6.4% in rural communities as well as 25-37% in urban communities around South
Africa.
Government has had to use $20 million to minimise drought but further need 20+
billion us Dollars to get rid of draught completely. The people of South Africa
have lost 37% of their drinking water to pipe breakages and leakages which is
1.58 billion kiloliters, which is 48 million swimming pools.
So we asking you to support and help Water for Hope to a brighter future!

7. How do Watersheds Affect Water Supply
Globally?
-A watershed is basically when there's an area of land
that captures precipitation, and then it flows into a body
of water such as lakes.
-What we don't realize is that in urban areas where there
are mostly roads and rooftops, or flat surfaces in general,
the water isn't soaked up like it would be with grass. The
water would drain into the sewer, picking up oils and
pollutants along the way. It enters our lakes and streams,
affecting the water’s condition.
Many people rely on this water for drinking purposes, so
when it's contaminated it could really hurt the people
drinking or maybe even swimming in it.

8. Dangers of Contaminated Waters
Water needs to be transported throughout a community once it is obtained.
This is usually accomplished by using a system of underground pipes.
Sometimes, these pipes contain hazardous materials such as lead and other
dangerous chemicals
These chemicals can dissolve into the water and make it dangerous to drink and
use.
The chemicals can go unnoticed unless the water is properly tested often.
9. Ways to conserve water globally
1) Use a broom instead of a hose to clean the driveways and sidewalks.
2) use your water meter to check for leaks.
3) If you accidentally drop an ice cube, don’t throw it away, put it in the house
plant instead.
4) Wash your pets outside where the lawn needs to be watered.
5) While washing your hands turn off the water while you lather.

10. Water Conservation Tips
6) Cutting shower times - Every four minutes of shower time uses 20-40
gallons of water.
7) Check for leaking faucets or pipes - Leaky faucets can waste up to
2,000 gallons of water a year.
8) Shutting of the water while you wash the dishes can save hundreds of
gallons of water.
9) Last of all spread the word to others and help conserve water.

11. There's water all around the world but only very little is clean water. Our
goal is to provide everyone with clean sufficient water.
Conclusion
One of the main purposes that we have is to educate the public about the
availability and distribution of water around a certain area, we also hope to
sufficiently teach proper water handling habits.
There are many ways to get water to the people in need, the methods used depend
on the location and situation of the addressed populous.
