- The desire to play comes naturally to all children.
“Play is the child's work”
- Playing increases a child's self-esteem, opens a young mind to
new possibilities, and develops social, verbal, and problem-
solving skills.
- Play areas has developed dramatically from ‘ isolated metal
pieces’ to ‘Composite structures of imaginative play
activities’.
- The goal of designing play spaces (indoor or outdoor) is simply to
create an environment that that enriches their ‘work of play’.

activities while also providing for the Safety of the children.
- Playing zones and equipment appropriate to the age of the children.

children choose to engage in … the outdoor playing area have to offer
different zones of ‘play’.
The design of Different zones depends on ‘ locating activities that
generate similar noise levels:

- Transitional Zone: This zone serves as the "front porch" to the
playground. It is located at the entrance(s) to the playground. This
area allows the child to make self-directed decisions about when and
in what manner to enter the playground.

strength and dexterity, an especially important task for young
children learning hand control for the use of pencils, crayons,
scissors, and eating utensils.

- Dramatic Play Zone: Role-playing is particularly useful for
developing social and verbal skills in young children. This zone
provides backdrops that encourage and facilitate children to imitate
adult roles by playing house, school, theatre, etc.

playground, swings should be separated from other activity areas for
reasons of safety.

- Hard Surface Zone : This zone typically consists of a concrete slab that
provides a surface suitable for sidewalk chalk games and ball bouncing games
such as four square and hoops. It can also be designed to provide an accessible
route to the various activities throughout the playground.
- For safety reasons, it is critical that no climbing equipment be installed over a hard
surface.
