2. Tier 1
• Initial identification phase. This is where content mastery of all students is tested to identify
students in need and find areas of deficits within the school.
• Progress monitoring- General whole group screening
• Interventions- differentiated instruction and small group placement
3. Tier 2
• Intervention placement. This is where data is collected from tier 1 and analyzed. Interventions
are put into place for all students/classes that need them. Students who are in need of services
or additional interventions are put through additional screening procedures to ensure they
received what they need.
• Progress monitoring- This is a transitional phase. Weekly assessments will help determine
whether students are able to move either up or down in tier but tier 2 is not made for students to
be here long term.
• Interventions- Small group, resource room
4. Tier 3
• Specifically for students who are not progressing and are in need of more vigorous
interventions.
• Progress monitoring- Continuing with weekly assessments and data collection, students who
progress to tier 3 are not benefiting from the more standard interventions that are in place for
the general class. Very few students make it to this tier.
• Interventions- Accommodations, resource time
5. How Movement Between Tiers Will Occur
Tier 1 is the starting point for the intervention process. Once data is collected
are put into place, a plan is formulated and carried out within Tier 2. Tier 2 is
depth tier. Once intervention is complete and students show adequate
move back down to Tier 1 to go through screening again to determine if any
needed. The process may end here. If little to no progress is shown within Tier
Tier 3 where more intensive interventions are put into place.
6. Benchmark and Classroom Assessments and Progress Monitoring
• Aimsweb, Woodcock Reading Mastery Test, pre and post test and duel administration for
students who are potentially at risk are a few examples.
