Response to intervention for the middle school students is explained in the ppt. Besides that, what are evaluations and assessments. The tier system of the RTI is also explained for the middle students.
2. Response to intervention
Response to intervention is a process carried out to maintain
high quality education for the special students.
A process which help to match student needs, monitoring
and decision making regarding students participation.
Intervention is divided into three parts/tiers.
Tier 1 is of the lowest intensity while tier 3 is of the highest.
Middle school students will be focused in RTI timeline.
3. Benchmark assessment
Through this type of assessment the
student competency is evaluated
through different techniques.
E.g. in Middle school the special
student can be given a paragraph to
spell and write.
These assessments helps students to
progress with the class instead of
falling behind.

4. Classroom assessment and its evaluation
Assessment
Screening test
Intelligent quotient test
Behavior rating scale
Concept mapping
End of grade assessment
Evaluation
Some assessments are evaluated based on the grade or
numbers in a particular test.
Tests related to behavior are assessment on their daily
attitudes.
(8 special education assessments n.d.)
5. Evaluation process
Step 01: Data Collection
Background information collection from students records, teachers records and assessment
results.
Diagnose disability and plan appropriate education program.
Step 02: Analysis and Evaluation
After data collection analysis is conducted on the information.
Step 03: Determination and recommendation
Once a child’s academic, cognitive, emotional, intellectual, perceptual, psychological,
language and medical development are evaluated, a determination about the presence of a
suspected disability can be made.
Such a determination is followed by recommendations related to the educational
placement and program that need to be made out to the parents, teachers, and the school.
(Special education assessment n.d.)
6. Tiers based education
Tier 02
Students of this tier are
engaged in group studies
and interactions. The
students are evaluated on
the weekly basis. Based
on the evaluation it is
decided whether the
student should mover to
tier 01 or not. Besides
that, they continue
learning in tier 01
classroom as well.
E.g. Nature of exercises
and shortening the length
of lessons.
Tier 01
In this type of tier all
the students are
present but the
disable students get
more attention as
compared to others.
Differentiated
instruction is used
to meet the needs
of the students.
E.g. Inquiry Based
Learning
Tier 03
More smaller groups
are formed in this tier.
The students also
continue learning in
the general
classrooms.
Individualized lectures
are also initiated in
this tier.
E.g. Setting
achievements goals.
Modelling problem
solving steps.
7. Frequency of assessment and progress-monitoring
The frequency of assessment and monitoring should be steady paced.
Tier 01
Whenever a student is identified on risk so then he should be monitored frequently on monthly or if
possible of weekly bases. The progress should mainly be monitored on the rate of learning compared to
standard rate of learning. Standard time for monitoring tier 01 student is 8-10 weeks.
Tier 02
If the response of student in tier 01 is not satisfactory so he/she moves to tier 02. In this tier a student is
monitored twice or thrice a month and then a decision is made whether he will move to tier 01 or tier 03.
Tier 03
Students face weekly and bi-weekly assessment and it is the need of this tier because highly at risk
students are placed in this category.
(Feldman, n.d.)
8. Tier Movement
The movement in the tiers totally depends on the assessment and progress monitoring.
Tier 01
The educators will decide on introductory assessment whether a student should be in special
category or not. The students in this tier are assessed based on the assignments, tests and
projects. The student will move to tier 2 if he is lazy in the learning.
Tier 02
The number of assessments increases in this tier mainly based on groups. the progress
monitoring of tier two decides about the upcoming tier of the student that can be tier 01 in
case of good progress otherwise tier 03.
Tier 03
This is the most intense tier where the students are monitored on weekly bases. Alongside that,
individualized learning is initiated the monitoring decides whether a student will move to tier
01 directly or through tier 02 to tier 01.
(MarkMcMichael3, n.d.)
9. Presentation of Data points
The results of the assignment, tests and projects will be shared with
parents.
In tier 02 the parents will be given responsibility of homework completion
with their kids.
Tier 03 will most probably involve parents in the form of parents teachers
meeting and inform them in what areas their kid is lacking.
In all tiers creative assignments and tests will be carried out which will be
presented to the parents.
10. Conclusion
Intervention in the education becomes necessary when there are lazy
students in the classroom or having disabilities.
Different types of assessments should be carried out which will help in the
identification of the special students.
Every tier students should be given importance whether he/she is studying
individually, in group or combined.
Involving the parents of the students in the instruction can help big time.
