Evaluation Question 2
1. How does your media product
represent particular social
groups?
Question 2
2. The social groups that feature in my film are a
white, middle class, middle aged male (Hero),
a white, lower class, middle aged male (Villain)
and a white, upper class, teenage male
(Victim).
3. Hero
I have portrayed the Hero as middle class as he lives in a nice house and has the
time to relax in his own time as we see him making a tea and reading the
newspaper which shows he is well educated and he wants to know about the latest
events by turning on his radio which shows he worries about current events. The
radio looks high tech which also shows he has money to spend also he is wearing
some nice clothes which is a ralph lauren shirt and jeans which shows he spends a
bit of money as well. He is male as male are seen as stereotypically strong and are
heroes which he is in our film. He is also white; this shows that he is a native in his
country as English people are stereotypically white. He also is middle aged which
shows that he is very experienced for his line of work and in life as he is getting
older. This means he won’t be as agile and athletic as his younger counterparts
which could be his downfall.
4. Villain
I think the Villain is lower class as he is wearing dark clothes which isn’t branded which
shows he doesn’t have the money to spend on luxuries and the car looks new which
connotes he has stolen it as he wouldn’t afford it, to support this we see that there are
pillows and a sleeping bag in the car which connotes he is living/sleeping the car which
shows he is very tight on money. We also see the victim tied up with jump leads which
shows he is improvising. However lower class are stereotypical seen as imprudent but
the villain isn’t, as he did kidnap the prime minister son which takes a lot of skill and
intelligence to do and also to improvise well, you have to be creative and clever which
the villain was, by victim tied up with jump leads which shows he is improvising or a part
of a larger crime organization. He is also white; this shows that he is a native in his
country as English people are stereotypically white. He is male as male are seen as
stereotypically intelligent but also can be aggressive which he is in our film. He also is
middle aged which shows that he is experienced in life and knows what he is doing. He
is getting old but he can be still athletic as he can drag a teenage boy and can beat him
up.
5. Victim
The victim is upper class as he is the prime minister’s son which means he must be
rich and have a good house and has power. However, he is wearing trainers,
jogging bottoms and a red coat; which connotes danger; this shows he is down to
earth as he is wearing clothes which are normal for a middle class person or even
working class and nothing very expensive apart from the coat. In the situation of
him being kidnapped, he is powerless as he is tied up which contradicts his status
and his class. He is male however he is very young which shows he’s weak and
naïve as he got tied up and got beaten up, this shows a lack of experience as he
doesn’t know what to do. He is also white; this shows that he is a native in his
country as English people are stereotypically white.
