Examines:
● changes in HE leading to ‘unbundling’ of educational
provision
● the intersection of increasingly disaggregated curricula
and services, the affordances of digital technologies,
the growing marketisation of higher education
● the inequalities which characterise both the sector and
the contexts in which they are located.

10. CONCLUSION
Preliminary analysis of interviews with senior leaders in the
Higher Education sector in South Africa suggests:
● that there are multiple responses to emergent forms of
provision, shaped both by global trends and local
catalysts
● New forms of provision could widen access to higher
education.
● They are also seen as a potential revenue stream for
public universities in the context of austerity.
