a recognised level of quality certified by the
national & international bodies, such as ISO,
BSTI, ASTM and others.
3. DEFINITION OF ISO
◽ISO: International Organization for Standardization.
◽It is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies.
◽ISO is a nongovernmental organization that comprises
standards bodies from more than 160 countries, with one
standards body representing each member country.
5. OBJECTIVES OF ISO
1. To provide product that is customer focused or oriented.
2. To produce products that meets customers requirement.
3. To enhance customer satisfaction for the products and their
trust in it and enhance quality management.
4. To develop & provide international standard in response to
market needs is the main objectives of ISO.

7. WHAT IS ISO 14000 SERIES
# ISO 14000 is a series of environmental management standards
developed and published by the International Organization for
Standardization (ISO) for organizations.
The ISO 14000 standards provide a guideline or framework for
organizations that need to systematize and improve their
environmental management efforts.

11. EXPLANATION OF PLAN AND DO
Plan: Establish clear objectives and outline all processes
required. This stage will typically include an initial review or
gap analysis, to better understand the existing state of the
organization and plan accordingly.
Do: Put the plan into action by implementing the process. This
involves assigning work, including who is responsible for what
within the environment management system.
12. INTERPRETATION OF CHECK AND ACT
Check: Measure and monitor the processes and report results. In
this stage performance is monitored and periodically measured to
ensure that the organization's environmental targets and
objectives are being met.
Act: Take action to improve performance of EMS based on
results. After the checking stage, a management review is
conducted to ensure that the objectives of the EMS.

for tackling economic, environmental and social aspects.
# Utilizing ISO 14000 can help to gain advantages in finance,
insurance, marketing, regulation and a wide range of

15. DEFINITION OF BSTI
◽BSTI: Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution.
◽It is a government agency under the Ministry of Industries
constituted for the purpose of controlling the standard of service
and quality of the goods.
◽BSTI established in 1985 and it is the only National
Standardization Body and recognized by ISO & IEC.
17. THE MAIN FUNCTIONS OF BSTI
Formulation and adoption of standards for products, services,
testing methods.
Testing of products and certification.
Management system certification.
Calibration and verification of all measurements.
20. TESTING WINGS IN BSTI
There are two testing wings in BSTI:
(1) Physical Testing Wing: Electrical & Electronics Engineering
Division, Civil, Physical & Mechanical Division, Textiles
divisions.
(2) Chemical Testing Wing: Food & Bacteriological Divisions,
Chemical Divisions.

i. Implementation of SI Unit.
ii. Maintenance of Standards of Weights and Measures
with international traceability.
iii. Maintenance and Development of the National
Measurement Standard.
iv. Promotion of Metrological activities.
22. BSTI ACTION FOR CONSUMER PROTECTION:
Surprise inspection of the factory and random samples
are tested in BSTI laboratory.
Products bearing the standard marks are collected by
surveillance team from the open market and tested.
Misuse of the Standard Mark is punishable as per law.
