Bacterial cellulose has several beneficial properties including high biocompatibility, high water holding capacity, and biodegradability. It is produced through the fermentation of Gluconacetobacter xylinus in Hestrin-Schramm media. Bacterial cellulose has various applications such as use in wound dressings for burn patients, facial masks, wearable jackets and gloves, and food packaging to prevent contamination.
